  • In this study, the flow field and the recirculation phenomena are investigated numerically for the model around a tunnel entrance and exit. It turns out that the air entering to the tunnel entrance comes mostly from the upper region of the entrance implying that maintaining the air clear in that region is important for the inside-tunnel ventilation. We also found that the recirculation of the exhaust gas from the exit to the entrance has a maximum effect when the flow velocity at the exit is somewhat lower than that of the entrance.

연료 혼합비율 및 산소농도가 노말데케인/에탄올 혼합연료의 점화특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Fuel Blending Ratio and Oxygen Concentration on Auto-ignition Characteristics of n-Decane/Ethanol Blended Fuels)

  • 본 연구는 대체연료 개발 및 국제환경규제에 대응하기 위하여, 노말데케인과 에탄올 혼합연료의 조성 및 온도 변화가 자착화 특성에 미치는 영향을 수치적으로 해석하였다. 해석용 프로그램으로는 CHEMKIN-PRO를 사용하였고, 반응모델은 LLNL모델을 이용하였다. 수치해석 결과를 통해 저온 연소 반응이 일어나는 1000K 이하에서는 에탄올의 몰 비율이 증가함에 따라 점화지연 시간이 증가하는 현상을 확인하였다. 에탄올의 높은 옥탄가로 인해 에탄올의 높은 비율은 점화를 일으키는 OH라디칼의 농도 증가를 지연시키기 때문이다. 배기가스 재순환을 적용하기 위해 혼합연료에 산소농도를 변화하여 수치해석을 하였다. 산소농도가 감소함에 따라 전체 점화지연시간은 증가하게 되고, 이는 질소가스가 연소실 내에 열부하로 작용하기 때문이다.

  • The combustion and exhaust emission characteristics were investigated in an DME fueled HCCI engine. Carbon dioxide, nitrogen and mixed gas, which was composed of carbon dioxide and nitrogen, were used as control parameters of combustion and exhaust emission. As the oxygen concentration in induction air, which was occurred by carbon dioxide, nitrogen and mixed gas, was reduced, the start of auto-ignition was retarded and the burn duration was extended due to obstruction of combustion and reduction of combustion temperature. Due to these fact, indicated mean effective pressure was increased and indicated combustion efficiency was decreased by carbon dioxide, nitrogen and mixed gas. In case of exhaust emission, hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide was increased by reduction of oxygen concentration in induction air. Especially, partial burning was appeared at lower than about 18% of oxygen concentration by supplying carbon dioxide. However it was overcome by intake air heating.

  • 질소산화물 저감에 큰 효과가 있는 MILD 연소는 고온의 배기가스가 연소로내에 유입되는 양에 따라 질소산화물 저감 특성이 많은 영향을 받는다. 본 연구에서는 동심원관 형태의 MILD 연소로에서 바깥 원통의 배기가스 통로에서부터 안쪽 원통의 연소통로 사이에 연결관을 설치하고 배기가스를 유입하기 위해 coanda 노즐을 사용하였다. 이러한 coanda 노즐의 기하학적 형상 변화에 따라 고압공기 유량, 배기가스 유입량 특성을 수치해석을 통해 살펴봄으로써 최적의 coanda 노즐 형상을 도출하는 것을 본 연구의 목적으로 하였다. 본 연구의 전산 해석의 결과는 conada 노즐의 노즐 통로 간격이 0.5 mm, 노즐 각도 $4^{\circ}$, 노즐 확관 길이 146 mm일 때 최적의 유입량비가 되었고 노즐 통로 수직 길이는 유입량비에 무관하였다.

  • It is a present situation that the control on automobile emission is getting more restrictive and also the regulations for emission are changing greatly up to level of those advanced foreign countries. Specially, it has been many years that exhaust gases from gasoline automobile rather than from diesel is the major object concerned by Korea and other countries, and it is strongly required on the reduction techniques on harmful NOx and PM among those compositions. Thus, this research focused on the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and the target for this research is heavy-duty turbo-diesel engine with Cooled EGR. Furthermore, this research has been made efforts to accomplish the regulation on emission for heavy duty diesel engine.

  • The effects of EGR on emissions were investigated by using a six-cylinder, 8 litre, turbo-charged, heavy-duty diesel engine with a low pressure route EGR system. The experiments were performed at various engine loads while the EGR rates were set from 0% to 30%. Hot and cooled EGR are achieved without cooling and with cooling respectively. To verify the possibility of EGR technology for the applications, test were performed with steady state test cycle. It was found that the exhaust emissions with the EGR system resulted in a very large reduction in oxides of nitrogen at the expense of higher smoke and PM emissions. Increasing the EGR rate leads to deteriorating specific fuel consumption and power at lower speed and higher load. Also, the reduction rates of NOx emissions for hot and cooled EGR are similar.

  • Residual gas acts as a diluent which results in reducing the in-cylinder temperature as well as the flame speed, significantly affecting fuel economy, NOx emissions and combustion stability. Therefore it is important to determine the residual gas fraction as a function of the engine operating parameters accurately. However, the determination of the residual gas fraction is very sophisticated due to the unsteady state of induction and exhaust process. There has been little work toward the development of a generally applicable model for quantitative predictions of residual gas fraction. In this paper, a simple model for calculating the residual gas fraction in SI engines was suggested. The amount of fresh air was evaluated through AFR and fuel consumption. After this, from the intake temperature and pressure, the amount of total cylinder-charging gas was estimated. The residual gas fraction was derived by comparing the total charging and fresh air. This results coincide with measured EGR value very well.

  • Extensive experiments were conducted to investigate the emission of DI diesel engine by using DMC(dimethyl carbonate) as an oxygenated fuel additives. The results indicate that smoke reduces almost linearly with fuel oxygen contents. Reductions of HC and CO were attained noticeably, while a small increase in NOx was encountered concurrently. The effective reduction in smoke with DMC was maintained with the presence of CO2, which suggested a low NOx and smoke operation could be obtained in combination of using oxygenated fuel and EGR. Further experiment was conducted a thermal cracking set-up for mechanism studies.

  • In this paper, the effect of oxygen component in fuel on the exhaust emissions has been investigated fur direct injection diesel engine. It was tested to estimate change of engine performance and exhaust emission characteristics for the commercial diesel fuel and oxygenated blended fuel which has seven kinds of mixed ratio. And, the effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on the characteristics of NOx emission have been investigated. Ethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether(EGBE) contains oxygen component 27% in itself, and it is a kind of effective oxygenated fuel of mono-ether group that the smoke emission and unburned hydrocarbons of EGBE is reduced remarkably compared with commercial diesel fuel, that is, it can supply oxygen component sufficiently at higher loads and speeds in diesel engine. It was found that simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx was achieved with oxygenated fuel and cooled EGR method.

  • A homogeneous premixed charge compression ignition engine is experimentally investigated for the reduction of exhaust emissions in diesel engines. In this study, the premixed fuel is injected into the intake manifold to form homogeneous pre-mixture in the combustion chamber and then this pre-mixture is ignited by small amount of diesel fuel directly injected into the cylinder. In the premixed charge compression ignition engine, NOx and smoke concentration of the exhaust emissions were reduced simultaneously as compared with the conventional diesel engine. But HC and CO emissions were increased with the increase of premixed ratio. The combustion characteristics of premixed charged diesel engine such as the power output, the rate of heat release, and the other characteristics are discussed.
