Analysis of Characteristics of White LED Light Source for TV Lighting (TV 조명용 백색 LED의 광원 특성 분석)

  • Since eco friendly and power saving products recently got into the limelight for the protection of environment, LED light technology has caught much of attention as the next generation broadcasting lighting. The newly introduced light source has such advantages as higher efficiency, longer life and its slim and compact forms leading to conveniency in installations. When combined with digital light control it gives more dynamic and various features to lighting. In this paper, used CIE standard for measuring light sources by their purposes and forms to make a comparative analysis of spectral distribution and color rendition of LED light source to those of existing lighting systems. By means of the cast shadowing and color reproduction tests I also tried to figure out the effects of LED lighting design on TV visuals where higher quality is crucial with the audience's increasing demands for quality image.

  • 현재 한국도로공사에서 운영하는 고속도로 교통관리시스템(FTMS)과 우회도로 교통정보시스템(ARTIS)은 차량 검지 장치와 CCTV 를 통해 실시간 교통 자료를 수집하고, 도로전광표지(VMS), 방송, 인터넷 등 다양한 매체로 교통 정보를 제공하는 시스템이다. 이러한 시스템들은 매일 도로에서 수집되는 엄청난 양의 교통 자료를 실시간 교통 정보 제공하는데 목적을 두고 있어, 교통 자료를 가공하고 처리하여 분석을 수행하는 연구 환경을 제공하는데 어려움이 많다. 본 논문에서는 여러 시스템으로부터 대용량의 교통 자료를 가져와 하나의 통합 데이터베이스로 구축하고, 이를 통해 얻은 교통 이력 자료를 연구할 수 있는 환경을 제안한다.

High Capacity Steganographic Method (고용량 스테가노그래픽 방법 연구)

  • This paper proposes a high capacity data hiding method using modulus function of pixel-value differencing (PVD) and least significant bit (LSB) replacement method. Many novel data hiding methods based on LSB and PVD methods were presented to enlarge hiding capacity and provide an imperceptible quality. A small difference value for two consecutive pixels is belonged to a smooth area and a large difference one is located on an edge area. In our proposed method, the secret data are hidden on the smooth area by the LSB substitution method and PVD method on the edge area. From the experimental results, the proposed method sustains a higher capacity and still a good quality compared with other LSB and modified PVD methods.

Interference Analysis for Deployment of the Efficient Village Broadcasting Radio System (마을방송 시스템의 효율적 구축을 위한 간섭분석)

  • Since the existing analog village broadcasting system has some technical problems in applying and degradations in performance due to its old equipments, it had been required recently to be changed to a wireless digital system and to develop the standardization. However, it is important to analyze the interference between villages in deploying the efficient digital wireless village broadcasting system. In this paper, simulations for co-channel and adjacent channel interference have been carried out considering digital private mobile radio(dPMR) and digital mobile radio(DMR) systems as a representative mobile radio. These results for frequency reuse and channel separation drawn from the separation distance between villages in co-channel interference and the frequency offset in adjacent interference can be helpful to establish a standard and the testing service in the near future.

  • It is very important to find errors in broadcasted streams because it can help us to find where errors occur. Broadcasted streams may have errors in the RF(radio frequency) or baseband domain. It is very important to fix these errors because it can help to stabilize set-top boxes, provide stable receiving, and give comfortable environments to watch TV. Since 2001, major terrestrial broadcasters in Korea started the DTV broadcasting in Kwan-Ak over Seoul area. In this paper, we provide some analysis on errors in MPEG-based TS streams, PSIP packets, and RF area which may occur in DTV systems and compare this result with that of USA.

  • Since the existing analog village broadcasting system has some technical problems in applying and degradations in performance due to its old equipments, it had been required to be changed to a digital system and to develop the standardization from now. Therefore, we have analyzed the service coverage in various environments in order to construct an effective digital wireless village broadcasting system. Also, a precise prediction of field strength should be set up in various propagation environments to design a digital radio stations with reliable transmit power. Using these results the received power and the propagation characteristics in various environments can be predicted to establish a standard and the testing service will be deployed in the near future.

  • In this study, we research for characteristics of exportation of Korean TV dramas during 10 years. During this decade, media environment has been changed significantly : platforms have been increased and viewing attitude have been also changed. We will find out these changes in TV exportation : types of TV rights, price per countries, frequency of trade per countries, etc. For this, export records of 2 Korean TV stations from 2005 to 2014 have been obtained. As a result, export countries have been diversed, price have been increased and types of TV rights also have been various.

  • This paper introduces a recommender system that is to recommend broadcast content. Our recommender system uses user's viewing history for personalized recommendations. Broadcast contents has unique characteristics as compared with books, musics and movies. There are two types of broadcast content, a series program and an episode program. The series program is comprised of several programs that deal with the same topic or story. Meanwhile, the episode program covers a variety of topics. Each program of those has different topic in general. Therefore, our recommender system recommends TV programs to users according to the type of broadcast content. The recommendations in this system are based on user's viewing history that is used to calculate content similarity between contents. Content similarity is calculated by exploiting collaborative filtering algorithm. Our recommender system uses java sparse array structure and performs memory-based processing. And then the results of processing are stored as an index structure. Our recommender system provides recommendation items through OPEN APIs that utilize the HTTP Protocol. Finally, this paper introduces the implementation of our recommender system and our web demo.

Study of the Impacts of Programming Characteristics of Entertainment Programs on General Programming Channels on Watching Intentions (종편TV 예능방송프로그램의 편성특성이 시청의도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study analyzed the impacts of programming characteristics perceived by the consumers of entertainment programs on general programming channels on watching intention and the data of a survey with 360 adult viewers in the capital area. Research questions were verified as follows: First, as a result of multiple regression to analyze the impacts of the factors of programming characteristics perceived by the consumers on their watching intention, setting personal characteristics as a control variable, programming characteristics as an independent variable and watching intention as a dependent variable, the regression model was significant. Thus, the more positive the perceived factors of programming characteristics, the more significant their watching intention improved. Second, the factors of programming characteristics significantly affecting watching intention had greater positive(+) impacts in the following order: Adjacency > substantiality > weight of genre > social evidence > relative advantage > ease of access.

Public Broadcasting or Publicity Broadcasting? An Analysis of KBS News Coverage of the Korean Housing Market (KBS의 공보 방송 모형적 성격에 관한 연구 부동산 뉴스 생산 과정을 중심으로)

  • What is the basic nature of Korean public broadcasting system? This research explores this question through an analysis of KBS news coverage of the Korean housing market. This study spotlights the internal news production processes. In detail, this study investigates newsroom routines, such as news selection, news gatherings, and news production. As a result, this study reveals KBS can be classified as "Publicity Model" following reasons. First, KBS news selection process stresses higher viewer ratings for competitive market share and belittles public interests of serving the citizen. This caused KBS news to provide fragmented and truncated news information and to constrict high quality news of significant information for citizen. Second, KBS newsroom operates under the minimum staff resource to produce news programmes and has developed official source dependency as a routine for news gathering. Third, under the limits of report format, KBS news worked as a neutral deliverer of government message and failed to provide more detailed information and diverse viewpoints.
