A Study on Domestic Drama Rating Prediction (국내 드라마 시청률 예측 및 영향요인 분석)

  • Audience rating competition in the domestic drama market has increased recently due to the introduction of commercial broadcasting and diversification of channels. There is now a need for thorough studies and analysis on audience rating. Especially, a drama rating is an important measure to estimate advertisement costs for producers and advertisers. In this paper, we study the drama rating prediction models using various data mining techniques such as linear regression, LASSO regression, random forest, and gradient boosting. The analysis results show that initial drama ratings are affected by structural elements such as broadcasting station and broadcasting time. Average drama ratings are also influenced by earlier public opinion such as the number of internet searches about the drama.

  • Recent commencement of digital broadcasting has enabled various TV programs through hundreds of channels. As a result, it becomes a time-consuming job for the TV audience to look up newspaper or TV magazines for the schedule of a specific TV program. To relieve this problem, digital broadcasting usually provides an EPG(Electronic Program Guide) for the audience. Currently. most EPG services are focusing on the visual delivery of information through a web site, digital TV or mobile devices. However, this approach could cause a serious restriction to some users including drivers or visually handicapped persons, who can't input keywords for the search. In order to solve this problem, in this paper, we propose a VoiceXML-based EPG retrieval system that enables even such special users to browse EPG. conveniently using a mobile phone. We implemented a prototype system and proved its effectiveness through experiments.

A Study on the Systematic TV Drama Production System (방송드라마의 체계적 제작 시스템에 관한 연구)

  • In terms of creating widespread popularity and a high value added business, TV drama is recognized as an unrivaled entertainment content above any other TV program genres Although recently some broadcasting companies have been trying to set up a drama production system, it seems that a well-structured system has not been established, yet. This study analyses the practices and mechanisms of drama producing processes based on the in-depth interviews with the experts in the drama production fields in three major broadcasting companies. It is found that the Korean drama production system is 'a producer-director system' and that the strategies for the windowing effects are not systematically applied from the pre-production stage. For the broadcasting companies to strengthen the competitiveness through drama, the expert-producer system should be introduced, the production elements should be systematically managed, and the multi-use strategies should be effectively established.

  • 인터넷의 영역이 확대됨에 따라 인터넷에서 다양하고 많은 정보를 제공받게 되었다. 뉴스의 영역도 그중 하나로 신문사, 방송사 등의 많은 언론사들이 인터넷으로 서비스를 확대함에 따라 뉴스 정보의 과다현상이 일어나게 되었다. 이 때문에 사용자는 방대한 뉴스들 중에서 원하는 뉴스만 걸러서 보기를 원하게 되었고 이를 위한 뉴스 필터링 방법이 연구되었다. 뉴스 필터링 기술들은 주로 사용자의 관심 사항을 예측하여 제공해 주는 뉴스 추천 시스템을 위한 기술 개발에 초점을 두었다. 그러나 기존의 뉴스 필터링 기술들은 사용자의 관심 있어할 만한 뉴스를 추천할 뿐, 관심 없는 뉴스를 제외시키지는 못한다. 예를들어, 어떤 특종 사건이 생기면 이 사건을 보도하기 위한 뉴스들이 각 언론사 마다 생성되고, 뉴스 추천서비스를 사용하는 사용자는 기존의 뉴스 필터링 방법에 의해 사용자가 관심 있다고 예측되는 이 사건에 대한 뉴스를 제공받게 된다. 그러나 사용자가 이미 추천된 뉴스 중 하나의 뉴스 혹은 그와 동일한 내용의 다른 언론사에서 제공되는 뉴스를 읽었다면 추천된 뉴스는 이미 알고 있는 정보이므로 사용자는 이 뉴스에 대하여 관심이 없을 것이다. 기존의 뉴스 필터링 방법은 추천 시 중복된 뉴스를 제거하지 못하는 문제점을 지닌다. 이 논문은 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 육하원칙 기반의 필터링 방법을 제시하고, 실험을 통해 이 논문이 제시한 방법의 장단점을 보인다.

A Study on Characteristics of the Type of Interactive Broadcast Program in Korea (국내 양방향 방송 프로그램 유형 특징에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the development of interactive services and technologies in the media industry. Through the analysis of domestic two-way broadcasting contents service, this study analyzed platform and services type according to service type of terrestrial broadcasting, SO operator and Telco. Also, by identifying the characteristics of interactive programs(open, interactive, personalized, stereoscopic), this study propose important convergence possibilities of the future providers and development plans through supporting technologies and services for each characteristic. In the case of terrestrial broadcasters, ARS, web sites and mobile apps were mostly provided in both directions, and SO and satellite broadcasting operators were found to provide diversity in interactive service operation using data domain. In the case of IPTV companies, most of them provide interactive services with additional video or information service through adjustment button or app, and cable TV operators had more adjustment data broadcasting than exclusive use data broadcasts. Therefore, domestic interactive broadcasting service type needs convergence type of revenue model needs and needs to be converted into new competitive interactive broadcasting program service environment.

  • In this paper, the technology verification of next generation broadcasting technology and service suitable for domestic broadcasting environment was carried out to build and activate domestic terrestrial UHD broadcasting. ATSC 3.0-based mobile HD broadcasting is currently conducting experiments with various parameters from broadcasting companies, research institutes and others. However, experiments on integrated transmissions, including audio services, have not been carried out. Through this experiment, we first performed the theory and experiment on the maximum number of ATSC 3.0 based UHD broadcasting service, maximum service number of HD broadcasting considering mobility, and maximum service number of audio broadcasting within one channel (6MHz). Second, parameters for integrated transmission of each service (UHD broadcasting, mobile HD and audio broadcasting) in one channel were derived. Finally, we studied technical possibilities through field tests that we receive while moving directly in the field.

  • As the mobilization of audience' media consumption getting escalating, terrestrial broadcasting, especially public broadcasting is severely affected in Korea. After 9 years' downfall, public broadcasting is trying to aim for citizen platform. Even though the Korean broadcasting law already has the articles of protecting viewer's right and profit, it has some contradictory limits also. Implied by Japanese magazine Taberutsushin, which was originated from CSA model, I suggest the new model of committee for viewers. The new committee for viewers has various planning committees and evaluation committees to ensure citizen's participation on planning, programming, and production. The new committee for viewers would function as minimum system to prompt the public broadcasting to play it's role in rapidly changing digital era.

  • This study explores the factor which effects user's viewing on online in the situation of increasing viewing via OTT. After analyzing how the amount of news coverage and viewing rate affects user's active viewing, higher the number of views, In case of groundwave programs, if number of news coverage is high, hits of view and the number of comments is also high. While viewing rate, the number of views, the number of comments are independent of each other. In case of TV channels of comprehensive programming and cable TV, there is a interaction effect of viewing rate and the amount of news coverage. This study highlights the importance of the amount of news coverage when viewers is watching video on web.

  • This paper is an experimental study using eye-tracking on the visual attention of TV entertainment programs with PPL products being shoveled by the acceptor. As a result of analysis, first, there was no difference in the exposure time of the PPL product, which is deemed to have little effect on the subject's attention. Second, there was no difference in the PPL product's prominence, and we could see that the focus was on subtitles or the faces of the cast. Third, the concentration of attention on PPL products was higher when there were more famous cast members than there were when there were low-profile cast members, and the appearance of famous cast members was judged to be very effective in order to focus more attention on PPL products. In conclusion, when exposing PPL products in entertainment programs, it is believed that the more popular the cast members appear on entertainment shows, such as famous broadcasters, celebrities, and stars, the more effective the PPL products are, rather than the exposure time and prominence of PPL products, the more effective the companies will be in advertising the popular and likable celebrities.

A Method of Generating Theme, Background and Signal Music Usage Monitoring Information Based on Blockchain

  • In this paper, we propose a method of generating theme, background amd signal music usage monitoring information based on a blockchain, in which the music usage informations are recorded by the monitoring tool using feature-based filtering of monitoring organizations. Theme, background and signal music are music inserted into the broadcasting contents of broadcaster. Since they are recognized as created contents just like normal music, there are lyricists and composers who have the right for those music and all copyright holders of them have to receive the corresponding copyright fees, once the music was used in the broadcast. However, there are problems with inaccurate monitoring results for music usage, due to the omission of usage details and non-transparent settlement method. In order to solve these problems, If the information generation method proposed in this paper, accurate music usage history can be created, the details are stored in the blockchain without changes or omissions, and transparent settlement and distribution are possible by smart contract, avoiding the current non-transparent settlement method.
