Current Situation on the Construction of Program Production Systems in the Local Broadcasting : Centering around the Terrestrial Broadcasting Systems in Daejeon (지역 지상파방송의 프로그램 제작시스템 구축 현황 - 대전지역 지상파방송을 중심으로 -)

  • This study considers some changes in the program production by the local broadcasting stations through the analysis of their programs. Currently, one of the biggest changes in the local broadcasting systems is that they focus on the self-produced contents about the community and expand the joint-production. In the case of KBS Daejeon, they try to activate various joint-produced programs together with the local broadcasting stations in Yeongnam province. MBC Daejeon has also strengthened the joint-production systems since 2002 by classifying MBC's 19 subsidiary stations around the country into 5 groups in order to strengthen the competitiveness. As for TJB, they work in the cooperation with other commercial broadcasting stations in other cities, including Busan, Kwangju, Jeonju, Ulsan, Daegu by sharing the programs which they produced. In conclusion, the local broadcasting systems should depart from the function as a mediating center of the central broadcasting network and strengthen the ability of producing programs in order to be able to function as a source of producing programs. Thus, local broadcasting stations should expand the joint production of the programs about the communities and the ratio of the organization of the self-produced programs.

  • 최근 재난에 신속하게 대응하기 위하여 통신망을 이용한 긴급재난문자 시스템에 관한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 기존 LTE 기반의 긴급재난문자 서비스는 한정된 자원으로 인해 시스템의 한계가 있으며, 이를 해결하기 위해 5G 이동 통신 서비스 기반의 긴급재난 문자 서비스를 고도화하기 위한 연구가 수행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 5G기반 긴급재난문자 서비스의 성능 검증을 위하여 송출권역 구분, 재난문자 길이, 다국어 지원에 대해서 시험한 결과를 분석하고, 5G 환경에서 고도화된 긴급재난문자 서비스를 검증하기 위한 서비스 시나리오를 정의한다.

Performance Analysis of Multiple-Antenna Receiver in Cloud Transmission System for Building Single Frequency Networks (단일주파수방송망 구축을 위한 클라우드 전송 시스템에서의 다중 안테나 수신 성능 분석)

  • In this paper, we propose a study for the next generation terrestrial broadcasting technology based on SFN(Single Frequency Networks), which applies multiple receiving antenna to improve receiving performance of cloud transmission system. By applying multiple receiving antenna, the received broadcast signals at the boundary of different SFN broadcasting area could be modelled by distributed MIMO system. Due to the interference cancellation effect of the MIMO detector, the proposed scheme could suppress the adjacent area interference more efficiently compared to the single receiving antenna case. Simulation results show that receiving performance can be improved dramatically in overlapping area of SFN by applying multiple antenna receivers in cloud transmission system.

  • Many communications and broadcast media have emerged by the rapid development of wireless communication and broadcasting technologies, so the radio resources are insufficient for these services. DMB can use the regional integrated channel due to the SFN broadcasting network, so DMB uses the frequency efficiently. However, the domestic DMB uses the existing analog TV frequency band and uses a plurality of channels in some areas because of the interference with the analog TV. However, the broadcasting of the analog TV was terminated, so the channel reallocation of the terrestial DMB is necessary for the efficient use of frequencies. This paper proposes the channel reallocation method of the terrestial DMB and analyzes the change of transmission and reception environments by using simulations.

Effect of TV Watching Activeness on Class-Oriented Drama Viewing Rate: Focusing on Residential Characteristics (TV 시청의 적극성이 상류 계층 묘사 드라마 시청률에 미치는 영향: 거주지역의 특성을 중심으로)

  • This study investigated the differences between active and inactive TV watching groups, in terms of residential characteristics, of class-oriented drama viewing rate. We compared Flow and Social Comparison Theories to explain the relationship between class-oriented contents in the drama and viewing rate. We collected 110,000 TV viewers data of 4 class-oriented and the other 4 dramas, aired between Feb. 2016 and March 2019, through D-Live local cable service provider. Controlling gender ratio and income level which may affect viewing rate, we found that class-oriented content significantly and positively affects viewing rate in active watching group while the same content significantly and negatively affects viewing rate in inactive watching group. These results imply that Flow and Social Comparison Theories may apply in opposite directions in different watching groups.

Study on Error Correction Method for Advanced Terrestrial DMB (고품질 지상파 DMB를 위한 오류정정방식 연구)

  • Advanced T-DMB(Terrestial DMB )system which is a new portable mobile broadcasting system has been developed to increase data rate up to double of conventional T-DMB in same bandwidth while maintaining backward compatibility, using hierarchical modulation method. The Advanced T-DMB system realize high qualification of conventional T-DMB system by adding BPSK signal or QPSK signal as enhanced layer to existing DQPSK signal. The enhanced layer signal should be small enough to maintain backward compatibility and to minimize the coverage loss of existing T-DMB service area. But this causes the enhanced layer signal of Advanced T-DMB susceptible to fading effect in transmission channel. In this paper we applied the duo-binary turbo code which has powerful error correction capability to the enhanced layer signal for compensating channel distortion. And the computer simulation results about the performance of the duo-binary turbo code in Advanced T-DMB system are presented along with analysis comments.

  • In this paper, the possibility and necessity of the digital broadcasting propulsion in AM and FM is presented based on DRM and DRM+ transmission modes, They are the members of series technological family in digital radio development. As the frequency utilization, the application of DRM+ is flexible in any mode such as IN-BAND or OUT-OF-BAND. When the digital audio broadcasting is planned at LOW-VHF bandwidth such as TV channel No.5 and NO.6 being adjacent to FM band and OUT-Of-BAND DRM+ technology is applied, there is no collision and jamming. Particularly, in the IN-BAND Hybrid mode, it is mentioned that there was the difficulty problem for multiple SFN transmitters uses. Not like the IN-BAND mode the OUT-OF-BAND mode lets multiple transmitters, because neighbor transmitters do not interfere each other. Digital transmitter can be combined with the existing FM transmitter. The intensity of power and size of area can be easily determined according to local broadcasters' condition. And the OUT-OF-BAND mode is advantageous for AM/FM integration in digital radio receiver manufacturing, which makes the conversion schedule much shorter.

Analysis of laboratory test results on the constellation ratio in hierarchical modulation based AT-DMB (계층변조 기반 AT-DMB의 성상비에 따른 LAB 테스트 결과 분석)

  • AT-DMB system has been developed to increase data rate up to double of conventional T-DMB in same bandwidth while maintaining backward compatibility. The AT-DMB system adopted hierarchical modulation which adds BPSK signal or QPSK signal as enhanced layer to existing DQPSK signal. But this causes the enhanced layer signal of AT-DMB susceptible to fading effect in transmission channel. A turbo code which has powerful error correction capability is applied to the enhanced layer signal of the AT-DMB system for compensating channel distortion. We developed the prototype AT-DMB transmitter and receiver systems for performance evaluation. LAB test for analysing the effect of constellation ratio between existing base layer signal and enhancement layer signal, was conducted and the measurement results are shown with analysis comments.

Could Cable Local Channels Be an Alternative to Strengthen Broadcast Locality? Exploring the Possibility of Linking Local Terrestrial and Cable Local Channels (케이블 지역채널은 방송 지역성 강화의 대안일 수 있을까? 지역 지상파와 케이블 지역채널 간 접목 가능성 탐색)

  • This study explores the possibility of maximizing locality through synergy between local terrestrial broadcasters and cable local channels. To this end, it examines the significance of the concept of locality in the changing environment represented by the 4th Industrial Revolution. It also analyzes the existing situation of broadcasting locality and the terrain of existing studies concerning cable local channels. Based on the reviews, the study searches for the connection points between local terrestrial and cable channels, which are still heterogeneous operators. The difference in the size of broadcast region and the programming time constitutes the optimum condition. As a result of this, the study discusses the issue of appropriateness and feasibility of bundling the local terrestrial and pay-TV channels in the same legal system. By doing so, it reveals the biggest obstacle in institutionalizing the cable channel into the public category is the emotional rejection towards cable TV. In order to overcome this problem, the study suggests to abolish both the current policy guideline characterized as the same service, same regulation principle and the abolition of local business right of cable TV. It also proposes to allow news commentary function of cable local channels and strengthen cable TV's own capabilities.
