  • Dicamba(3,6-dichloro-2-methoxybenzoic acid) is used to control for pre and post-emergence of annual and perennial broad-leaf weeds. It is very soluble in water and highly mobile, acidic herbicide. So it is easily moved and detected in groundwater. Zerovalent iron(ZVI) has been used for the reductive degradation of certain compounds through amination of nitro-substituted compounds and dechlorination of chloro-substituted compounds. In this study, we investigated the potential of ZVI for the oxidative degradation of dicamba in water. The degradation rate of dicamba by ZVI was more rapidly increased in pH 3.0 than pH 5.0 solution. The degradation percentage of dicamba was increased with increasing amount of ZVI from 0.05% to 1.0%(w/v) and reached above 90% within 3 hours of reaction. As a result of identification by GC-MS after derivatization with diazomethane, we obtained three degradation products of dicamba by ZVI. They were identified 4-hydroxy dicamba or 5-hydroxy dicamba, 4,5-dihydroxy dicamba and 3,6-dichloro-2-methoxyphenol. 4-Hydroxy dicamba or 5-hydroxy dicamba and 4,5-dihydroxy dicamba are hydroxylation products of dicamba. 3,6-dichloro-2-methoxyphenol is hydroxyl group substituted compound instead of carboxyl group in dicamba. We also confirmed the same degradation products of dicamba in the Fenton reaction which is one of oxidation processes using ferric sulfate and hydrogen peroxide. But we could not find out the dechlorinated degradation products of dicamba by ZVI.

  • Cr(VI)-quinoline compound[(C9H7NH)2Cr2O7] was synthesized by the reaction between of quinoline and chromium(VI) trioxide, and structure was FT-IR, elemental analysis. The oxidation ability of benzyl alcohol greatly depends upon the dielectric constant of the used organic solvent, where carbon tetrachloride was worst and N,N'-dimethylformamide was best solvent. Noticeably, in N,N'-dimethylformamide solvent, Cr(VI)-quinoline compound oxidized substituted benzyl alcohols. The Hammett reaction constant(ρ)=-0.69(303K). As a resuit, Cr(VI)-quinoline compound was found as efficicent oxidizing agent that converted benzyl alcohol, allyl alcohol, primary alcohol and secondary alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes or ketones. Cr(VI)-quinoline compound was selective oxidizing agent of benzyl alcohol, allyl alcohol and primary alcohol in the presence of secondary alcohol ones.

  • In this paper, we propose an address autoconfiguration mechanism and a route establishment mechanism appropriate for the modified MANET architecture which overcomes the multi-link subnet problem. For the delivery of Router Advertisement (RA) messages without causing the duplicate packet reception problem in the multi-hop wireless network environment, the Scope-Extended RA (Scope-Extended Router Advertisement) message is defined. Also, by defining the MANET Prefix option, a MANET node is allowed to send packets destined to a host not in the MANET directly to the gateway. This can prevent the performance degradation caused by broadcasting control messages of the reactive routing protocol for route establishment. The performance of the proposed mechanism is analyzed through NS-2 based simulations and, according to the simulation results, it is shown that the proposed mechanism performs well in terms of the control message overhead.

  • The impact of stress on immune function is known to be associated with the interactions among the central nervous system(CNS), neuroendocrine system, and immune system. The main pathways between stress and immune system are wiring of lymphoid organs and neuroendocrine system. Immune system also produces neuropeptides, which modulate immune system. Mediators of psychosocial influences on immune function are found to be peptides released by the pituitry, hormones, md autonomic nervous system. Hypothalamus integrates endocrine, neural and immune systems. Particularly, paraventricular nucleus appears to play a central role in this integration. On the other hand, endocrine system receives feedback from the immune system. The major regulatory pathways which pituitary modulates include the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal-thymic(HPAT) axis, hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal-thymic(HPGT) axis, pineal-hypothalamic-pituitary(PHP) axis. Bidirectional pathways such as feedforward and feedback pathways are suggested in the interaction between stress and immune system. It suggests that psychosocial inputs affect immune function, but also that immunological inputs affect psychosocial function. Thus, prospective studies for elucidating the relationship between stress and immune function should incorporate measures of immune function as well as measures of endocrine, autonomic, and brain activities at the same time.

  • Studies were made on the regulation of chorismate mutase and prephenate dehydratase of a species of Intrasporangium, a phenylalanine producing Actinomycete isolated from soil. Two distinctly regulated species of chorismate mutase, designated CM I and CM IIwere resolved by DEAE Cellulose and DEAE Sephadex A 50 chromatography. The activity of CM II was inhibited by L-tyrosine, whereas that of CM I appeared to be unregulated. Single species of prephenate dehydyatase was also separated in the same purification steps. The activity of the enzyme was strongly feedback inhibited by L-phenylalanine, but by L-tyrosine or L-methionine it was rather slightly stimulated. Synthesis of chorismate mutase was not influenced by the presence of phenylalanine, tyrosine or tryptophan, whereas prephenate dehydratase was found to be subject to strong feedback repression by L-phenylalanine. The rate of repression was 94% at the concentration of 1mM L-phenylalanine but the repression was completely offset by the presence of 5mM tyrosine. The critical regulatory site of the phenylalanine terminal biopathway was, therefore, proved to be the second reaction which was catalyzed by the L-phenylalanine inhibitable and repressible prephenate dehydratase.

  • In this paper, an optimal design method of clonal selection based Fuzzy-Neural Networks (FNN) model for complex and nonlinear systems is presented. The FNNs use the simplified inference as fuzzy inference method and Error Back Propagation Algorithm as learning rule. Also Advanced Clonal Selection (ACS) is proposed to find the parameters such as parameters of membership functions, learning rates and momentum coefficients. The proposed method is based on an Immune Algorithm (IA) using biological Immune System and The performance is improved by control of differentiation rate. Through that procedure, the antibodies are producted variously and the parameter of FNN are optimized by selecting method of antibody with the best affinity against antigens such as object function and limitation condition. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we use the time series data for gas furnace and traffic route choice process.

  • This paper investigates how oil price changes have an impact on the Korean manufacturing production activities. For this investigation, we use a structural VAR motel to estimate impulse response functions of industrial production, producer price and export price to an oil price increase over manufacturing industries. It finds that in most manufacturing industries, an oil price increase leads to decreases in industrial productions and domestic prices except energy intensive industries, but to increases in industrial export prices except non-metallic (26), computers and offic machinery (30), electronic components, radio, television and communication (32) industries. This result explains that an oil price increase makes negative impacts on the manufacturing production activities not only through demand slowdown in the domestic markets but also through supply contraction in the export markets.

  • OSPF is the optimized routing protocol in wired network and considered as a tactical routing protocol in wireless tactical communication network. However because it is designed basically based on wired environment, it runs inadequately in wireless tactical environment: noise and jamming signal. So, we proposed new OSPF cost function to develop active routing protocol in wireless tactical communication network. In redefined cost function, there are four parameters that are relative transmission speed, link weight, router utilization, link average BER(Bit Error Rate). These parameters reflect wireless tactical characters. Also, we remodel the option field in Hello packet. It can help user to periodically check the link state. From the simulation result, it is shown that proposed OSPF is better than OSPF in jamming situation and has accumulative delay gain with dispersion of traffic load in entire network.

  • The IR spectra of gaseous phenanthrene, phenathrenols, phenanthrenyl radicals, and hydroxylphenanthrene radicals have been obtained using the BLYP/6-311++G(d,p) method. A comparison of these spectra shows that the measurements of IR spectra can be valuable to identify the reaction pathway(s) of the phenanthrene decomposition reaction by ${\cdot}OH$. We have found that the H atom abstraction reaction process can be easily identifiable from the $650-850cm^{-1}$ (CH out-of-plane bending) region and the ${\cdot}OH$ addition reaction process from the CH stretching and bending modes region of IR spectra. In addition, the calculated IR spectra of all five phenanthren-n-ols (n = 1, 2, 3, 4, 9) have also given in this work.

  • The AtPGR gene is induced by pathogen infection, jasmonic acid and salicylic acid treatment and may therefore play a role in plant defense responses. Arabidopsis thaliana Plasma membrane Glucose-responsive Regulator (AtPGR) was previously isolated from Arabidopsis, which confers glucose insensitivity on plants. To study its biological functions directly, we have characterized both loss-of-function RNAi mutant and gain-of-function transgenic overexpression plants for AtPGR in Arabidopsis. The AtPGR-overexpressing plants displayed enhanced resistance to a virulent strain of the bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas syringae as measured by a significant decrease in both bacterial growth and symptom development as compared to those in wild-type and RNAi plants. The enhanced resistance in the gain-of-function transgenic plants was associated with increased induction of SA-regulated PDF1.2 and JA-regulated PR1 by the bacterial pathogen. Thus, pathogen-induced AtPGR plays a positive role in defense responses to P. syringae.
