Treatment of Cu(II)-EDTA using Solar/$TiO_2$ Photocatalysis (태양광/$TiO_2$ 광산화를 이용한 Cu(II)-EDTA의 제거)

  • Photocatalytic oxidation of Cu(II)-EDTA has been studied using solar/$TiO_2$ photocatalysis as an energy source. Photocatalysis efficiency on the treatment of Cu(II)-EDTA was investigated using different types of solar collectors as well as by variation of the angles of solar collector solar light intensities, flow rates, and areas of solar collector. effect of $H_2O_2$ and types of $TiO_2$ catalyst on the treatment of Cu(II)-EDTA was also investigated. Removal of Cu(II) and DOC was favorable with a hemispherical collector than with a flat collector Removal of Cu(II) and DOC increased with increasing angles of solar collector up to $38^{\circ}$. Slurry type $TiO_2$ showed four-times higher removal efficiency than immobilized type $TiO_2$. Removal of both Cu(II) and DOC at a clear sky of solar light intensity ranging from 0.372 to $2.265\;mW/cm^2$ was greater than removal at a cloudy day of solar light intensity ranging from 0.038 to $1.129\;mW/cm^2$. From the result of this research that the removal efficiency of Cu(II) and DOC increased as the solar light intensity increased, it can be inferred that quantum yield in the destruction of Cu(II)-EDTA may directly related with the solar light intensity. Removal of Cu(II) increased as increasing the area of solar collector and was similar at lower flow rates white removal of Cu(II) was interfered at higher flow rates. When immobilized $TiO_2$ was used, removal efficiency of Cu(II) increased in the presence of $H_2O_2$ while negligible effect was found in the use of $TiO_2$ slurry.

Current Status and User Experiences of the Science-Related YouTube Services by Government-Funded Research Institutes (정부출연연구기관의 과학 유튜브 서비스 현황과 이용자 경험 연구)

  • This study aims to understand the current status of science-related channels on YouTube provided by government-funded research institutes and investigate user experiences and behaviors of using the services. We examined the number of subscribers, view counts, and video contents of 26 YouTube channels from the government-funded research institutes. We also designed a user study with the uses and gratifications theory and conducted a semi-structured interview. By grouping videos into five categories: Public Relations, Lectures, Entertainment, Vlogs, and Q&A, most videos were about research projects or institutional promotions. User motivation for using the YouTube channel was to acquire scientific knowledge and information. Users thought that YouTube channels could provide reliable information and satisfy their intellectual curiosity. But they criticized that most videos were uninteresting, and the lack of promotions of the channels made others hesitant to sign up and watch. Findings from this study could help fully understand the current status of the government-funded research institute's YouTube channel and be used as resources for the government's planning and development of various YouTube services.

Comparison of Discourse by Environments for Using Tools in Small Group Learning with Augmented Reality (증강현실을 활용한 소집단 학습에서 도구 사용 환경에 따른 담화 비교)

  • In this study, we compared discourse by environments for using tools in terms of participation types, discourse types, and knowledge building processes. 24 first-year high school students were divided into six groups. They were assigned to the sharing tools environment, which used one marker and one smart device, or the individual tools environment, which used markers and smart devices individually. Students participated in small group learning using AR application based on the concept of chemical bonding. All classes were video- and audio-taped. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six students who voluntarily agreed. The results of the study revealed that the sharing tools environment had a high proportion of one-student dominating type, while the individual tools environment had a high proportion of partly participating type and most students participating type. In the individual tools environment, the ratio of knowledge sharing and knowledge construction discourse was similar compared to the tool sharing environment, and the sub-discourse types were also diverse. In the sharing tools environment, only some students had a meaningful knowledge building process. On the other hand, in the individual tools environment, most of the group members constructed knowledge about the target concept, and had a meaningful knowledge building process. In addition, the misconceptions that appeared to some group members were corrected through small group discussions.

An Investigation into the Pre-Service Mathematics Teachers' Knowledge of Content and Students (예비수학교사의 '내용과 학습자에 대한 지식(KCS)' 탐색 연구)

  • PCK(pedagogical content knowledge) has been frequently discussed in the field of subject matter education as well as education in general. Considering the fact that PCK characterizes teacher professionalism, and the distinction of mathematics education from neighboring disciplines, PCK is one of the core concepts in the discourse of mathematics education. This study focused on KCS(knowledge of content and students) among the areas of PCK. The purpose of this study to investigate the KCS of pre-service teachers attending a private university located in Seoul. An in-depth interview with 30 pre-service teachers was conducted in a semi-structured manner, using four questions dealing with common student errors, students' understanding of content, and student developmental sequences. The pre-service teachers gave mathematical answers while in others they gave priority to pedagogical considerations. The implication drawn from the interview data is that the teacher training program should fully reflect the complexity of mathematical concepts which appeared in school mathematics over several grade levels and content areas.

Thermal Dewetting Process를 이용한 비주기 서브파장 구조물의 제작방법

  • 본 연구에서는 열처리(Thermal Dewetting Process)와 빗각 증착(Oblique angle deposition)을 이용하여 비주기 서브파장 구조물을 마이크로 렌즈 형태의 유리 기판 상부에 제작하였다. 먼저 $2{\times}2cm2$ 크기의 유리 기판에 기존 리소그래피 공정으로 원기둥 형태의 감광액을 형성한다. 이후 Hot-plate로 $180^{\circ}C$에서 90초간 열을 가해 지름이 $20{\mu}m$인 반구형태로 변형시킨 뒤 반응성이온식각 공정을 진행하여 마이크로 렌즈를 제작한다. 렌즈의 표면에 나방 눈 구조를 형성하기 위해 전자빔 증착으로 15nm의 은 박막을 쌓은 뒤 $500^{\circ}C$에서 1분간 열처리 공정을 진행하였다. 열이 가해졌을 때 은 박막은 표면자유에너지를 최소화하기 위해 나노 크기의 덩어리진 입자 형태로 변화한다. 여기서 형성되는 나노입자의 크기가 렌즈 표면 중심에서 가장자리로 갈수록 작아진다는 것을 주사전자현미경을 통해 확인하였다. 증착 각도가 증가할수록 열처리 공정 후의 은 나노입자의 크기가 점점 작아진다는 것을 검증하기 위해 은 박막의 증착 각도를 $0^{\circ}$, $35^{\circ}$, $55^{\circ}$, $70^{\circ}$로 증착 후 열처리 공정을 진행하여 확인하였다. 비스듬하게 증착되어 형성된 박막은 다공형태로 낮은 밀도를 가지는데 이는 박막 두께 감소를 일으킨다. 따라서 증착 각도가 증가할수록 열처리 공정 후의 은 나노입자의 크기는 점점 작아진다. 이후 은 나노입자를 마스크로 하여 다시 반응성이온식각 공정을 진행하였으며 식각 후 나머지 은 나노입자들은 HNO3용액에서 1분간 처리하여 제거하였다. 제작된 구조물의 평균 직경과 크기는 각각 ~220nm 및 ~250nm인 것으로 확인하였다. 위와 같은 공정을 통해 다양한 크기를 가진 비주기 서브파장 구조물을 제작할 수 있다. 구조물의 주기가 파장 길이보다 짧을 경우 분산이 최소화되며 넓은 파장 대역에서 무반사 효과를 얻을 수 있다. 이 공정은 마스크를 통한 리소그래피의 한계를 극복할 수 있으며 여러 곡면형 표면에 적용가능한 장점이 있다. 또한 프리즘, 렌즈, 광섬유와 같은 광소자의 광투과율을 향상시키는데 이용될 수 있다.

Exploring Medical Doctors' Medical Information Seeking Behaviors (의사들의 의료정보추구행태에 관한 탐구)

  • Rapid change in information use environments that corresponds with the development of new technologies requires a new perspective in examining information source uses and information services. As understanding information seeking behaviors is an essential element for improving information services, the changing information seeking behaviors should be examined in a timely manner. While several prior studies focus on this topic, few studies deal with medical doctors' information seeking behaviors especially focusing on information seeking in both medical practices and research. Thus, this study aims to explore the information seeking behaviors of medical doctors who are both medical practitioners and researchers. Data were obtained by open-ended and semi-structured in-depth interviews during one month from April to May, 2009. The interview-question topics ranged from research contexts, medical-practice-related information seeking behaviors, favorable information sources, and information search process and satisfaction. Findings include that, for research purpose, digital journal articles accessed through the PubMed were more favorable sources while, for practice purpose, printed textbooks were preferred. Overall, the most-frequently-used sources were PubMed and articles because medical doctors regard the reliability and authority very highly.

A Study on Processing XML Documents (XML 문서 처리에 관한 연구)

  • XML can effectively express structured or semi-structured data as well as relational databases. XQuery is a query language for retrieving information for such an XML document. In this paper, an XQuery composer is designed and implemented, with an API provided for XQuery processors, and a proper processor is registered. This composer shows query results immediately processed by the processor. As this composer contains a parser for XQuery, it can compose XQuery effectively using a diverse dialog box designed for XQuery grammar. A dialog box is affiliated with a clause region, which is a region that algebra operates from the parsing tree. It can compose path expressions for an XML document easily as it shows an element tree from DTD graphically. Path expressions are composed automatically by marking elements in the structural hierarchy and by specifying the predicate of an element partially.

Four-leaf Clover-shaped Antenna for THz Photomixer for High Output Power (높은 출력의 THz 포토믹서를 위한 네잎클로버 형태의 안테나)

  • To improve the output power of a photomixer as a THz source, we propose a four-leaf clover-shaped antenna structure which is composed of a highly resonant radiation element and a stable DC feed element. The resonance characteristics of the proposed structure were investigated on a half-infinite substrate first as a simplified radiation environment in order to save the computation time. Based on the antenna characteristics on a half-infinite substrate, the antenna structure was designed to have a maximum total efficiency and a maximum directivity on an extended hemispherical lens. In comparison with a full-wavelength dipole, an input resistance of this structure increased six fold and this characteristic significantly improved the mismatch efficiency between a photomixer and an antenna. THz output power from this structure is expected to increase by 2.7 times as compared to a full-wavelength dipole case.

Samulnori Musicians' Experiences of Object Relations With Their Instruments (사물놀이 연주자의 악기 대상관계 경험)

  • The purpose of this research was to explore the phenomenon of object relations with musical instruments as experienced by professional Samulnori musicians. The researcher conducted in-depth individual interviews with five Samulnori players who also completed questionnaires with open-ended questions. The data were analyzed using Giorgi(2004)'s phenomenological methodology. The results offered 121 semantic units, seven subcategories, and three main categories. The three main categories were transitional object, object of expression and recognition of internal desires, and object for recognition of others and communication. These results suggest that the ensemble format of Samulnori promotes the development of the musician's object relationship and can externalize the player's internalized representational system and interaction method. This study is significant in that it reveals the endopsychic functional relationship between a musician and their instrument and provides the basis for the use of Samulnori instruments in music therapy.

Pre-service Science Teachers' Understanding of the Nature of Science (예비 과학교사의 과학의 본성에 대한 인식)

  • This study is an investigation regarding the understanding of the nature of science among pre-service science teachers majoring in science education. We interviewed 22 senior students in science education who finished their internship courses. Students were interviewed individually for approximately 20 minutes each. Data from semi-structured interview were audio-recorded and transcribed for the analysis. Findings indicated that participants held more complete understanding of the nature of scientific knowledge than the nature of scientific enterprise. Their understandings of the nature of scientific method was that hypothetical-deductive method is more scientific than descriptive-narrative method and there is a single stepwise scientific method to solve problems. These results showed that they have a narrow view of the nature of science. Thus, teacher education programs need to integrate the understanding of the nature of science throughout.
