An analysis on the Feasibility of Busan Container Transshipment by Barge service (부산항 환적컨테이너의 바지선 운송 타당성 분석)

  • The Currently, most cargos of container transshipment between Busan Port and New Port are transported over land, and the rest is transported by barge. This study estimated firstly the traffic between those ports through simulations in order to analyze the feasibility of container transshipment by barge. It forecasted annual profitability using determinants to affect on the barge business by the traffic, and then, discussed the feasibility. This study supposed the flexible scenarios with 50%, 60%, 80%, or 100% transshipment and the 25 monthly barge service numbers between two ports, and measured the influences of different factors according to the above various scenarios. And then the sales were evaluated by the different traffics and freights scenarios provided the business would be actually operated. Finally, Net incomes were simulated to analyze the feasibility of different scenarios by various traffics and freights. The net income should be positive to get the feasibility. To achieve this, the minimum traffic should be secured and the lowest freight per TEU should be determined. While all countries of the world is controlling CO2 emissions and emphasizes the green logistics, this study contributed to solve at the same time the problems about the pollution and the efficiency of transportation by reviewing positively the feasibility of barge transportation as an alternative to transportation overland.

A Measurement of Sea Transportation Load (해상운송 하중측정)

  • This article summarizes the results of sea transportation load measurements, which will be used as the reference to the sea transportation environment condition for the launch vehicle of KSLV-I. KSLV-I will be transported by Sea from Pusan to the NARO space center in Gohung, Chunnam province. Since the vibration load condition during sea transportation is considered as one of the important design parameters of KSLV-I and its transportation means, it is necessary to directly measure the environmental condition of sea transportation loads prior to establish the sea transportation plan in detail. This material includes the measured data of 3-axis linear accelerations and 3-axis angular rates on the board of a barge-ship, which is towed by a tug boat during shipping operation. This barge-ship is same class with one which will actually carry KSLV-I. The results show that the measured load condition during sea transportation is not severer than the reference data of MIL-STD-810F and Zenit-3SL launch system.

Experimental and Numerical Study on Towing Stability of Transportation Barge (운송 바지선의 예인안정성에 관한 모형시험 및 수치해석 연구)

  • This paper presents the results of an experimental and numerical study on the towing characteristics of a barge. A series of model tests were carried out at the Ocean Engineering Basin of KRISO. A model with a 1:50 scale ratio was constructed out of wood. First, force coefficient tests were performed in order to obtain the surge, sway, and yaw force coefficients of the barge. The focus was the effect of skeg on the force coefficients. The stability parameter was calculated from the force coefficients. Next, towing tests in calm sea were carried out with different towline lengths and towing speeds. The trajectories of the barge and the towline tensions were measured during the tests. The measured trajectories were compared with numerical simulation results using a cross-flow model. The towing stability of the barge in a calm sea is discussed in detail.

Fatigue Performance Evaluation of High-strength Bolt Used for Marine Transport Plant Structures (해상 운송 플랜트 구조물의 고장력 볼트 피로성능 평가)

  • The offshore plant structure has been transported to the site by barge because it is hard to manufacture in site. When the structure was transported on the sea, offshore plant structures and connection were experienced repetitive submarine load. For this reason, it was known for that the axial force of high-strength bolted connection was declined. Therefore, in this study, high-strength bolted connection was evaluated the shear fatigue performance under longtime fatigue load during marine transport. The experimental variables were selected intial axial force, surface type, and bolt type because they ar important factors in the change of axial force of bolts. As a experimental results of considering various variables, the variation of axial force showed within 1%. Therefore, the high-strength bolted connection was verified structural safety under longtime fatigue load.
