The purpose of this study was to determine optimum value of aeration, acetate dosage, and $CO_2$ input for the cultivation of Scenedesmus acuminatus. Highest specific growth rate and maximum biomass productivity was obtained by the aeration of 0.72 vvm and lower specific growth rates and maximum biomass productivity were obtained for other aeration tests. When putting 0.3 M of ammonium acetate in JM medium, the highest specific growth rate and maximum biomass productivity were obtained. $CO_2$ input tests were performed during semi-continuous culturing tests. The highest specific growth rate ($0.460d^{-1}$) and maximum biomass productivity ($0.936gL^{-1}d^{-1}$) were obtained after replacing 50% of solution with 0.3 M of acetate solution for $CO_2$ input tests. However, more dilutions after the first dilution resulted in lower specific growth rate and maximum biomass productivity. In aeration tests, the highest specific growth rate ($0.381d^{-1}$) and maximum biomass productivity ($0.253gL^{-1}d^{-1}$) were obtained when cultivating it with JM medium, but the specific growth rate and maximum biomass producitivty were significantly decreased when 50% of solution was replaced by acetate containing solution.
In order to overcome the 21st century's challenges such as national energy supply security, global warming, and resource depletion, we are struggling to accelerate the paradigm shift in our life style from fossil fuel-based economy to biomass-based economy. In the context of sustainable bioeconomy revitalization, we comprehensively review the development status of the biorefinery as a system for bioenergy/biochemicals co-products on the basis of the various categories according to six criteria.

The economic issue of the period of return versus investment has emerged to efficiently utilize the thermal energy of public resource recovery facilities using waste and private thermal source facilities using BIO-SRF. Accordingly, the optimum temperature and pressure facilities are required beyond the traditional designed, constructed and operated. In this study, we analyzed current energy output by different heat and pressure model in domestic facilities, and calculated the characteristics of green-house gas emission. In order to, utilize the thermal energy producing facilities using waste and biomass fuel more efficiently, it is temperature and pressure, which will lead to more lucrative investment and return as well.
The world demand of ethanol as an alternative fuel for gasoline is increasing rapidly because of high oil price and global climate change. Most of ethanol is currently produced from corn grain or sugars in sugarcane and sugar beet. Because these sources compete with foods and animal feed and are not expected to be enough for future demand of ethanol. Thus, cellulosic ethanol from agricultural residues or wood has to be commercialized in near future. Typical cellulosic ethanol production consists of pretreatment, enzyme hydrolysis, fermentation and product separation. This paper reviews the principles and status of each step and discusses issues for cellulosic ethanol production.
In this study, the potential of biomass, which is generated from oil palm cultivation and crude palm oil (CPO) production of Indonesia was assessed in the aspect of energy content. The types of oil palm biomass were classified on the basis of the cultivation stage and the CPO production stage. In the cultivation stage, biomass is considered to be produced from its' root, trunk and frond. Other possible biomass resources such as empty fruit bunch (EFB), palm kernel shell (PKS) and fiber were included in the CPO production stage. As results, total biomass from damaged plantation area of Indonesia was estimated to be annually from 3 million to 16 million tons in 2011. From CPO mills, approximately 49 million tons/yr of biomass residues were estimated to be annually occurred. Their total energy content from each biomass source in cultivation stage was analyzed to be from 593,000 to 3,197,000 TOEs in terms of gross calorific value. In the case of CPO mills, around 22.7 million TOEs was estimated to be potential energy producible by biomass based on gross calorific value of dry basis. If moisture content considered, net calorific value was analyzed to be decreased to 16.3 million TOEs. Based on the results, the total energy contents of all oil palm biomass were estimated to be up to 25,919,000 TOE in terms of gross calorific value. CPO : Crude Palm Oil, EFB : Empty Fruit Bunch, FFB: Fresh Fruit Bunch, PKS : Palm Kernel Shell, OPF : Oil Palm Frond, PKOC : Palm Kernel Oil Cake, ISPO : Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil Commission, TOE : Tone of Oil Equivalent.

In the present study, biogas was produced from the anaerobic digestion of marine macroalgae (Laminaria japonica) biomass. The optimal anaerobic condition for producing the sludge was the freeze treatment at $-70^{\circ}C$ for 20 min. Total amounts of hydrogen and methane gas produced were 667.28 mL/L and 3420.24 mL/L, respectively, which were 2.7 and 3.4 times greater than that in the control group. Freeze treatment of sludge produced the maximum biogas under an initial optimum pH of 7.0 and the maximum biomass at an initial optimum pH of 8.0. We confirmed that biogas production was greatly reduced under acidic conditions compared to that under alkaline conditions. Sludge was freeze treated, and the biomass and sludge production was optimal the total amounts of hydrogen and methane gas produced were 643.73 mL/L and 4291.6 mL/L, respectively, which were 2.6 and 4.3 times greater than in the control group. Also the results showed that under optimal conditions in a 5-L bioreactor, a maximum of 1605.03 mL/L of hydrogen and 4593.71 mL/L of methane gas could be produced by the substrate contained in the marine macroalgae biomass.
