In modern society, rooftops and underground spaces are utilized for overcoming a confined space limitation of metropolitan areas. Therefore, floor covering construction is also increasing steadily. From the user's viewpoint, skid resistance performance of floor covering methods is a very important performance criterion for safety and amenity, but an appropriate design and assessment criteria for skid resistance performance are not available. This study presents the skid resistance performance assessment method of floor covering methods considering the sidewalk skid resistance standard of Seoul city and the guideline of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs(MLTM) of Korea for road safety facilities'installation and maintenance. For this research, three alternatives among urethane floor covering methods are selected and their skid resistance performance is analyzed through an experimental study. The analyzed performance is also evaluated by the skid resistance performance assessment method. Finally, the comprehensive performance assessment including the results of skid resistance performance assessment is conducted by Value Analysis(VA) in order to encourage the construction methods of floor covering which have a high skid resistance performance. As a result of VA, the particle method which the skid resistance performance is improved up to four times more than other alternatives shows the highest performance index of 83.86.

The floor slipperiness is an essential property for the pedestrian safety. This study was conducted to develop the slip test apparatus to be well accorded with actual characteristics of human gait; and the correlation between RCOF (Required coefficient of friction), Rz (Surface roughness), and 3 coefficients of slip resistance (C.S.R (Coefficient of slip resistance), BPN (British pendulum number), and SCOF (Static coefficient of friction)) were analyzed. Result of the analysis revealed that the cadence, stride length, and step length were proportional to the walking speed, and the significant correlation between walking speed and RCOF was found. However, the correlation between RCOF and the other respective coefficients of slip resistance was almost unidentified thus it would be difficult to identify the actual property of floor slipperiness with the RCOF alone.

This paper is the result of an investigation of a PORTABLE SLIP METER(ONO PPSM) by means of an experiment to determine its validity as a slip meter. ONO PPSM is a portable slip meter that was designed to address the weak points of PULL SLIP METER(O-Y PSM), which can be used to obtain an accurate measurement of slip resistance, but is very heavy and difficult to operate. To determine the stability of the measurement result of ONO PPSM, we measured the slip resistance against 4 different kind of floor materials. Our findings showed that the coefficient of variability of CSR' is less than 0.05. Furthermore, we verified the relationship between CSR' and CSR. More specifically, by performing the slip test against 7 different kinds of inorganic matter floor materials, we increased the usability of ONO PPSM as a slip meter by suggesting a method of sharing the evaluation index of slip of CSR' and C.S.R.

The purpose of this research is to compare and analyze the change that must be applied to the evaluation of the slipperiness of an inclined floor, when considering its use by the physically handicapped and by the able-bodied. For this study, a simulator that can reproduce the characteristics of the body sway of a physically handicapped person was developed through a comparative experiment between able-bodied people and people with hemiplegia. In addition, as cale for the evaluation of the slipperiness of flat floors and inclined floors was composed by the sensory test result targeting physically handicapped persons (able-bodied persons wore the body sway for the handicapped and ageing in the experiment) and the able-bodied. In terms of the evaluation of the slipperiness of an inclined floor, it was evaluated that it is safe when the C.S.R' (Coefficient of Slip Resistance) of a healthy person is over 0.30, while it was evaluated that it is dangerous when the C.S.R' of a physically handicapped person is over $0.45{\sim}0.50$. Concerning this difference, it is judged that the reason for this difference is that the walking mechanism differs between an able-bodied person and a physically handicapped person.

This study is purposed to verify the safety of the floor of the children's playground using polyolefin foam waste and rubber paving. The critical fall height, walking suitability, long term physical fatigue expectation and slipperiness were tested. Polyolefin foam wastes in thickness of 30mm, 50mm and 70mm were prepared with paving the rubber paving materials in 12mm and 15mm thickness respectively. The test on the critical fall height was carried out according to KS G 5758:2009. The floor hardness test equipment (O-Y HMA) was used for the test on hardness of the floor from a viewpoint of walking suitability and fatigue. A portable slipperiness tester (ONO PPSM) was used for slipperiness test. It was revealed from the test that the floor made of the polyolefin foam waste and rubber paving were considerably safe from a viewpoint of impact absorption. With regards to the hardness of the floor, it was shown the excellent performance in the aspects of walking and fatigue for male. But it was not suitable with walking on the shoes(middle heels) for female. And they will be very fatigue if they were in a long time walking or standing. As far as the slipperiness is concerned, it was shown that it was comparatively safe for the ordinary motions even though the surface was wet.

Purpose: There are no clear criteria for slip performance in the BF certification process, so the evaluator relies on subjective judgments depending on the field situation. Physical criteria for determining the slip performance of various floor finishes are not clear. C.S.R., the only criterion currently being used to check slip performance, may raise questions about its coverage, feasibility and reliability. Method: For an analysis of domestic standards and status, KS L 1001, KS M 3510, and KS F 2375. External standards are analyzed for ADA Standard, ANSI Standard, and BS EN Standard. Analyze the test methods and evaluation criteria of O-Y-PSM, BPT, and the dynamic slip resistance test used in these criteria. It also presents an improvement plan for the rational presentation of standards. Results: To date, various kinds of test methods and measuring devices of the slip resistance coefficient have been developed, but there are not many ways to trust useful results related to user safety. Reliability and thoroughly verified test methods and criteria should be used to assess the slip performance of the floor. In order to improve the standard for the evaluation of slip performance in Korea, the existing standard should first be raised to the same level as the overseas standard, and the application of the discriminatory standard should be applied considering the characteristics and usage patterns of each space. Implication: Currently, Korean standards propose various test methods, but the proper use of test methods, scope and assessment criteria are not established, so improvement of the comprehensive standard is necessary.

The floor slip test method using O-Y·PSM was developed based on the risk assessment and sense of slip by the users implementing actions such as changing walking direction on a floor. This test method is regulated under the Korea Industrial Standard KS M 3510, and in the Korea Industrial Standard KS F 3230, the article of KS M 3510 is cited. Yet, in the standard, the surface condition of test or slip adjustment method is merely mentioned or difficult to be found, and thus it creates confusion in floor slip test using O-Y·PSM. Therefore, this study is to provide the useful data to revise the relative standard through the standardization study including various surface conditions of sample and slip adjustment method used in floor slip test method using O-Y·PSM.

The safety concern of slipping on floors in South Korea has come to the fore as a social problem, but the occurrence of such accidents has not decreased. Slip and fall accidents have several causes, but they are especially common when there is soapy water on the floor during a shower or a bath. Despite this situation, it can be said that there is a lack of standards on surface contamination materials used in floor slip resistance testing. Therefore, in this study, we conducted a survey to identify the components and quantity of soapy water that actually results from a user taking a shower, and the standardization of contamination materials. Based on the results of this experiment, we provide a surface contamination material that can replace the soapy water used in floor slip resistance testing.

For the slip resistance test of shower room floor, the "O-Y Pull Slip Meter method (O-Y·PSM)" regulated under KS M 3510. This test method uses cooking oil as a substitute of soapy water, and thus it does not reflect the real condition. In this study, on 10 types of floor material samples, the Coefficient of Slip Resistance Bath (CSR·B) on bare foot between 10 types of body wash solution and 6 types of SDS solution was compared. The body wash solution is a mixture of soap and water in 1:20 ratio. As a result, SDS 0.1% solution was the most suitable for a substitute of soapy water in shower.
