Design and Verification of Far-field measurement system for W-band Millimeter-wave Antenna (밀리미터파(W대역) 안테나 측정을 위한 원-전계 측정 시스템 설계 및 검증)

  • In this paper, we designed and verified a Far-field measurement system for measuring the performance of an antenna operating in millimeter wave(W-band). For the antenna test, a measurement system should be selected according to the type of antenna, measurement items, measurement environment and period, etc. In the case of near-field measurement, it takes a lot of time because the number of measurement items increases when the antenna has multiple channels or various beams. Such an antenna can reduce the measurement time through Far-field measurement, and only necessary measurement items can be measured. Therefore, this study secured precise alignment of the far-field measurement system using a high-power laser and improved the measurement accuracy by applying a double amplifier system. The designed system was built in the anechoic chamber and verified by comparison with the verified Near-field measurement system.

  • This paper introduces a W-band millimeter-wave power standard transfer system using the direct comparison method. The transfer system was developed to evaluate the effective efficiency and calibration factor of a W-band waveguide power sensor. The evaluation method and the measured results of the directional coupler that characterizes the calibration system are studied. The uncertainties of the standard transfer system are investigated, and the major uncertainty contributors are discussed as well. The performance of the realized W-band power standard transfer system was verified by comparing results with reference values.

  • This paper examines the feasibility of using periodically varying dielectric layers with dielectric constant ${\epsilon}_1$ and ${\epsilon}_2$ at millimeter wave frequency for implementing the frequency-selective reflectors that permit feed separation in large aperture reflecting antenna systems. For oblique incidence, it is found that the total reflection can be obtained at different frequencies for proper choices of ${\epsilon}_1$, ${\epsilon}_2$ and the geometric parameters. In the frequency-selective reflector designed, the bandwidth for 90% reflection is always found to be much narrower than that for 90% transmission.

  • A power amplifier with AlGaAs/InGaAs/GaAs HBT's has been developed for customer premise equipments of the quasi millimeter-wave frequency-band broadband wireless local loop(BWLL) system. Parameters of the linear and nonlinear equivalent circuits for a common base HBT have been extracted by a fitting method. The amplifier has been designed through the linear and nonlinear circuit simulations and fabricated on a ceramic substrate for a hybrid IC. The amplifier has produced a 25.5-dBm output power with 35% power-added efficiency(PAE) at 24.4 GHz and achieved a 7.5-dB linear power gain at 24.8 GHz. In 24.25 ∼24.75 GHz band, the amplifier has exhibited a saturated output over larger than 22 dBm and PAE higher than 25%.

  • A new Monte Carlo (MC) simulator for electron beam lithography process in the multi-layer resists and compound semiconductor substrates has been developed in order to fabricate and develop the high-speed PHEMT devices for millimeter-wave frequencies. For the accurate and efficient calculation of the transferred and deposited energy distribution to the multi-component and multi-layer targets by electron beams, we newly modeled for the multi-layer resists and heterogeneous multi-layer substrates. By this model, the T-shaped gate fabrication process by electron beam lithography in the PHEMT device has been simulated and analyzed. The simulation results are shown along with the SEM observations in the T-gate formation process, which verifies the new model in this paper.

  • This paper describes development and performance test of signal processor for the millimeter wave seeker. A ground to air guidance missile is required various beam patterns in order to counteract different kind of target. Therefore, we designed the hardware and software architecture considering flexibility. This signal processor consists of ADC, FPGA, DSP and etc. FPGA provides peripheral interface to DSP and convert digital IF signal to baseband signal. DSP performs signal processing, calculates target's information and controls devices. Each parts' hardware are connected in series and signal processing algorithms for various beam patterns are built in parallel.

  • This paper presents the influence on the transmission characteristics of dimensional tolerances of rectangular waveguides usually used as a low-loss transmission line in the millimeter-wave band. We derived the Green's functions of the waveguide with eigenfunction expansion method. The reflection coefficient of the waveguide with a post is calculated by using internal impedance in order to investigate the influence of dimensional tolerances of the waveguide. In order to check the validity of the theoretical analysis, the calculated reflection coefficients are compared with the measured results.

  • The international standards of high-rate WPAN (Wireless Personal Area network) are under development by IEEE802.15 WPAN TG3 (Task Group 3). The study area of TG3 mainly consists of three parts: high rate physical and media access control layer in 2.4GHz ISM (Industrial Scientific Medical) non licensed frequency band; an alternative high rate physical layer by using UWB (Ultra Wide Band); and another alternative high rate physical layer based on millimeter wave. This paper describes the standardization trends of UWB and millimeter wave.

A Design and Implementation of a Transceiver for LMDS Using the Monolithic Duplexer (모노리딕 듀플렉서형의 LMDS(Local Multi-point Distribution Service)용 송수신기 모듈의 설계 및 구현)

  • 본 논문에서는 밀리미터파를 이용하여 사용자에게 양방향 무선 멀티미디어의 구현을 가능케 하는 LMDS 송수신 모듈을 설계, 구현하였다. 제작된 LMDS 송수신 모듈은 신서사이져, 혼합기, 저잡음 증폭기, 고출력 증폭기, 듀플렉서 등으로 구성하였으며, 전체적으로는 전원부와 제어부를 통하여 이상여부를 감시하며, 송수신 모듈에 이상이 발생했을 때 이를 보호할 수 있도록 구현하였다. 여기서 DAVIC 표준에 맞도록 IF부 대역은 0.95∼1.45GHz의 500MHz 대역폭에서 동작하도록 제작하였고, 상하향 혼합기는 격리도 특성을 최대화하였으며, 이를 위해 하이브리드 링형을 이용한 다이오드 평형 구조를 적용하여 설계하였다. 혼합기로 주입되는 Local 주파수는 안정도가 높아야 함으로 유전체 공진형 발진기로 구현하였다. 또한 저잡음 증폭기와 고출력 증폭기는 정보통신부에서 공고한 3사 주파수 대역을 모두 수용할 수 있도록 24GHz∼26.5GHz의 대역에서 정상적인 동작을 할 수 있도록 설계하였으며, 특히 저잡음 증폭기는 잡음 환경에서 작은 신호를 손실 없이 얻을 수 있도록 잡음지수를 최소화하고, 30dB 이상의 충분한 이득이 구현되도록 하였다. 고출력 증폭기는 15dBm 이상의 출력을 송신하면서도 선형성에 문제가 없도록 혼변조왜곡(IMD) 특성을 고려하여 설계하였다. 그리고 듀플렉서는 우수한 주파수 선택도와 낮은 삽입손실 특성을 갖도록 송수신 필터 모두 5개의 공진기를 포함한 Chebyshev형 구조를 갖으며 생산성이 뛰어난 모노리딕형으로 구현하여, LMDS 송수신 성능을 구현하였다.

The 60㎓ Transceiver Development for 155.52Mbps ATM Signal Transmission using NRD Waveguide (비방사성유전체선로를 이용한 155.52Mbps ATM 신호전송용 60㎓ 대역 무선통신송수신기개발)

  • This paper reports on the development of a 60㎓ wide bandwidth wireless transceiver using NRD waveguide. We fabricated a wireless transceiver using NRD waveguide, which consists of a 3 dB directional coupler, a bandpass filter, a Gunn oscillator, an ASK modulator, and a Balanced Mixer. The new transceiver is capable of transmitting an output power of 10mW to a distance of more than 1 Km, operating in 60㎓ frequency and bandwidth of 2㎓. The value of BER reached approximately 10 when the transceiver was tested at the 155.52Mbps ATM(OC 3) at the communication distance of 1 km. It demonstrated an impressively stable transmission feature of BER l0$^{6}$ even in the heavy rainfall.
