  • With increasing demand for large offshore infrastructures, suction cofferdams have been large, and the lid stiffener arrangement for a suction cofferdam has become a key element in cofferdam design to constrain the flexural deformation effectively. This study analyzed the changes in the structural behavior of a lid for a suction cofferdam due to lid stiffeners to provide insights into effective stiffener arrangements. By investigating conventional suction anchors, several stiffener patterns of a lid for a polygonal suction cofferdam were determined and analyzed. The structural performance of the stiffened lids was estimated by comparing the stress and deformation, and the reaction distributions on the edge of lid were investigated to analyze the effects of the stiffener arrangement on the lid-wall interface. Finite element analysis showed that radial stiffeners contribute dominantly to decreasing the stress and vertical deflection of the lids, but the stiffeners cause an increase in shear forces between the lid and wall; the forces are concentrated on the lid near the areas reinforced with radial stiffeners, which is negative to lid-wall connection design. On the other hand, inner and outer circumferential stiffeners show little reinforcement effects in themselves, while they can help reduce the stress and deformation when arranged with partial radial stiffeners simultaneously.

  • Most of Korea's agricultural water is supplied by reservoirs, so dependence on them is very high. Accordingly, it is important to reduce this dependence and provide a stable agricultural water supply by utilizing an applicable alternative water source. Therefore, in this work, scenarios for different land uses were constructed, and an optimal water supply plan using rainwater and reused sewage water - which are alternative water sources - was created. A study was also conducted to determine the optimal capacity of a rainwater facility. From the analysis, a stable water supply was achieved in the scenario of maximum utilization of rainwater by changing an existing paddy area to a greenhouse area, and about 0.82 ton of flow capacity was required for 1 mm of rainfall on farms utilizing rainwater. As a result of analyzing the optimal scenario to derive the ratio of the storage capacity per unit water collection area, the rainwater storage capacity determined through MODSIM and the storage capacity determined through actual monitoring showed similar results, about 31 and 32 %, respectively, and the optimal capacity of rainwater facilities was calculated to be about 5,796,000-6,182,400 ton.

  • In this study, statistical analysis was performed to suggest the optimal analysis techniques for the main measuring instruments of the fill dam, such as seepage, crest settlement, and porewater pressure gauge. In addition, correlation analysis with water level and rainfall data was performed. Based on the results of descriptive statistical analysis for each instrument, porewater pressure gauges could be classified into 3 groups or 2 groups through principal component analysis, In the case of the group having a high correlation with the water level instrument, the correlation between the gauges was also large. In the case of seepage instrument, the distribution showed an extremely asymmetric distribution, so for quantitative analysis, the average seepage during non-precipitation and precipitation could be estimated through decision tree analysis. In the case of the crest settlement instrument, the correlation analysis showed that the correlation between the gauges was large, but the relationship with the water level instrument did not show a significant linear relationship, so EMD analysis was performed to analyze it in more detail. It is judged that principal component analysis, decision tree analysis, and data filtering method can be applied to analyze the behavior of pore water pressure meters, seepage, and crest settlement instrument as major measurement items of fill dam.

  • Attached parking lots installation criteria is determined by use, total floor area, etc. according to the Parking Lot Act and local government ordinances. However, with traffic demand increase inconvenience about use of culture and assembly facilities have been raised. When planning number of parking lots for cultural and assembly facilities, legal parking lots and unit parking lots are used, but this causes inconvenience and traffic problems on the surrounding roads, because reality and convenience are not considered. Therefore, this study intend to present an realistic number of parking lots calculating equation for movie theater in Gwangju Metropolitan City. After investigating number of parking lots, number of screens, number of seats, total floor area, bus route and illegal parking for a cultural facility in Gwangju Metropolitan City, prediction model for calculating number of parking lots was presented using SPSS regression analysis. As a result of comparing prediction model and unit method, the prediction model was be closer actual cumulative parking space, so prediction model verification was completed. Based on the model verified in this study, Realistic number of parking lots will be installed. However, due to limitations of research on specific areas, research on various facilities should continue in consideration of regional, population, and urban characteristics

  • As the national industry is developing gradually due to the expansion of the economic scale, the construction of large and super high-rise structures for building social infrastructure has been increasing, and studies have been conducted actively to transmit the large loads at the upper portion to the lower bedrock. In this study, the PHC was extended to an ultra-high strength PHC, which increased the concrete compressive strength of the PHC from the conventional 80 MPa to 110 MPa, and the PHC, which extended the tip of the pile. After construction with the driving method and injected pile method, the tendency of the bearing capacity was tested through a load test. Measurements of the bearing capacity of the extended PHC using the pile driving method revealed the main surface friction force to be smaller than that of the general PHC, and the stet-up effect was also insignificant. On the other hand, the effect of the friction force on the ground surface when the injected pile method was applied is expected to increase the bearing capacity when the gap between the main surface and the ground is wide and the cement paste is filled tightly. In addition, the ultrahigh strength PHC showed higher bearing capacity than the conventional PHC, and the permissible pile stress was less than 60%. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the number of piles and reduce the construction cost and effect of shortening the length of the pile by designing the tip of the pile on the ground with the intensity of soft rock as a method for utilizing the increased strength of the ultra-high strength PHC.

  • The objective of this study is to develop the existing drainage system for catching the partial leakage of tunnel structures operating in cold region. The drainage system consists of drainage board, Hotty-gel as a waterproofing material, cover for preventing protrusion of Hotty-gel, air nailer, fixed nail, pipe for collecting ground leak, pipe for conveying ground leak, wire-mesh, and sprayed cement mortar. The drainage systems were installed in conventional concrete lining tunnels to evaluate the site applicability and constructability. The performances of waterproof and the drainage in the drainage system were evaluated by injecting 1,000 ml of red water in the back of the drainage system at 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, 28 days, 2 months, 3 months, 4 months, 5 months, 6 months, 7 months and 8 months. During 8 months of field test, the average daily temperature of the tunnel site was measured from $-16.0^{\circ}C$ to $25.6^{\circ}C$. The daily minimum temperature was $-21.3^{\circ}C$ and the daily maximum temperature was $30.8^{\circ}C$. There was no problem in waterproof and drainage performance of the drainage board in the drainage system. However, the pipe for conveying ground leak had the leakage problem from 14 days. It is considered that the leakage of the pipe for conveying ground leak was caused by the deformation of the pipe of the flexible plastic material having a thickness of 0.2 cm by using the high pressure air nailer and the fixing pin and the insufficient thickness and width of the hotty-gel for preventing the leakage.

  • A monitoring method based on acoustic emission (AE) sensor has been widely used to evaluate the damage of structures in underground rock. The acoustic emission signal generated from cracking in material is analyzed as various acoustic emission parameters in time and frequency domain. To investigate from initial crack generation to final failure of rock material, it is important to understand the characteristics of acoustic emission parameters according to the stress ratio and rock strength. In this study, uniaxial compression tests were performed using very strong and weak rock specimen in order to investigate the acoustic emission parameters when the failure of specimen occurred. In the results of experimental tests, the event, root-mean-square (RMS) voltage, amplitude, and absolute energy of very strong rock specimen were larger than those of the weak rock specimen with an increase of stress ratio. In addition, the acoustic emission parameters related in frequency were more affected by specification (e.g., operation and resonant frequency) of sensors than the stress ratio or rock strength. It is expected that this study may be meaningful for evaluating the damage of underground rock when the health monitoring based on the acoustic emission technique will be performed.

  • The importance of tidal flats lost due to industrialization has recently received attention, and attention is being paid to the creation of artificial tidal flats and maintenance of natural tidal flats. However, there is still a lack of understanding about the behavioral characteristics of mud, mud, and sand that form tidal flats. Although research on the movement characteristics of mixed soils such as tidal flats has been conducted through field investigations and hydraulic experiments, interest in developing a numerical model based on these results has not yet reached. In this paper, the purpose of this paper is to establish a mixed soil model that can efficiently manage the low quality of the tidal flats. In constructing a model for reproducing the surface movement of mixed soil, the numerical stability of the reproduction and movement of sand and mud constituting the mixed soil in the numerical model should be considered first, so first, the volume of sand and mud constituting the mixed soil A mixed soil model representing the relationship was proposed based on a topographical diagram representing the geometric structure of the mixed soil. In order to consider the dry bulk density of the mixed soil, it was possible to consider the dry bulk density of the mud by introducing the water content of the mud containing water. In addition, it was confirmed that the mud and sand movement calculation according to the slope collapse of the mixed soil was stably performed through the calculation of the slope collapse of the mixed soil through the numerical analysis model to which the proposed mixed soil model was applied.

  • The interest in LID facilities is increasing worldwide for recovery of natural water cycle system to destroy by urbanization. However, problems are raised when installation of LID because comprehensive analysis about design capacity adequacy of LID facilities was not conducted completely. In this research, removal efficiency and design volume adequacy of LID facilities were analyzed based on rainfall monitoring data in four LID facilities(Vegetated Swale, Vegetative Filter Strip, Bio-Retention and Permeable Pavement). As a result, group of LID facility designed on WQV was shown higher flow(37%) and pollutants(TSS, BOD, TN and TP) removal efficiencies(20 ~ 37%) than group of LID facility designed on WQF. SA/CA graph was drawn for evaluation of design volume adequacy based on rainfall monitoring data. In this SA/CA graph, coefficient of determination show over 0.5 in all parameter, especially, Flow and TP were show over 0.95. And, 'SA/CA & L/CA' graph considering difference of structure mechanism in LID facility suggested in this research was confirmed that improved coefficient of determination in flow, TSS and TP than SA/CA graph. According to this research results, feasibility of applying 'SA/CA & L/CA' graph for evaluation of design volume adequacy in LID facility, and it is necessary to follow up research for generalization and normalization.
