A beverage was manufactured with onion extract for which onions were boiled with water and filtered. The concentration of cyclodextrin was studied to improve its quality in manufacturing the onion beverage and its antioxidative and antifatigue effect was investigated in vitro or in vivo. One percent of cyclodextrin was optimum concentration to prevent precipitation and to remove pungent taste and keep mild taste during storage at room temperature and 40$^{\circ}C$. Water extract of onion, used to manufacture onion beverage shown significant difference in antioxidative effect based on peroxide value and thiocyanate method. For the study of antifatigue, swimming performance of mice which fed with onion beverage and water extracts of onion and garlic for 2 weeks was investigated. The mice fed with onion beverage swam longer than those fed with water extract of onion and garlic.

Passive fit of prosthesis is an essential property of implant supported prosthesis for long term success and minimization of complications. And the property is determined mostly by fabrication procedure. There were limitations of extensive implant prosthesis because conventional casting method generate contraction error of long span prosthesis. However, Computer-aided design/Computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology of 3D printing and milling metal framework can overcome those limitations. This case is a full mouth rehabilitation using extensive implant fixed prosthesis. Removable interim prosthesis was made for esthetic, functional evaluation and a guide for implant insertion. After the insertion, implant fixed interim prosthesis was delivered. After additional evaluation and adjustment, final prosthesis was designed with CAD, the fabricated with CAM. Milling technique was used for anterior screw type implant superstructure and 3D printing technique was used for the anterior and posterior implant copings. Fit of the final restoration was favorable. The practitioner and patient were both esthetically and functionally satisfied with the final result.
The influences of Ca and Fe based oxides as dechlorination sorbents on the product distribution, boiling point distribution of liquid product, concentration of Cl of the products from the pyrolysis of PVC containing combustible wastes were investigated. With Fe based oxides as the sorbents, the yield of liquid product remarkably decreased whereas the decrease of the boiling point distribution of the liquid product was not noticeable. This phenomenon indicated that Fe based oxides worked as catalysts with weak catalytic activity. With Ca based oxides as the sorbents, the yield of liquid product did not decrease and the boiling point distribution of liquid product did not change significantly, but the dechlorination performance of these was much better than that with Fe based oxides.

The purpose of this study was to propose a design procedure for a damped structure with a friction damper for an existing structure. The target displacement of the damped structure was determined using the maximum displacement of the existing structure. The displacement of the damped structures was predicted using a proposed equation for the inelastic displacement ratio. For this study, we conducted a nonlinear response history analysis using 80 earthquake ground motions to verify the validity of the proposed design procedure by comparing the responses of the damped and undamped structures. Based on the dynamic analysis results, it was concluded that the predicted displacement of the damped structure using the proposed design procedure matched well with the analysis results.

This paper is concerned with a new concept of vibration control in which thermal stresses are utilized. Thermal actuators are used to generate thermal stresses in a vibrating beam. The thermal actuators are found to work successfully as the control means. Especially the proposed control method in this paper can be effectively applied to the large space structures with low natural frequencies rather than to the structures with high natural frequencies. In the process of control design, various control methods including optimal-robust control method are investigated. Through numerical simulations, it is found that the robust-optimal control method can be efficiently with the vibration control of a cantilever beam using thermal stresses.

In this paper, the optimization of direct design system of steel frames by genetic algorithm involving advanced analysis are performed. For the analysis of steel frames advanced analysis accounting for geometric nonlinearity and material nonlinearity are executed. The genetic algorithm was used as optimization technique. The weight of structures is treated as the objective function. The constraint functions are defined by load-carrying capacities, deflections, inter-story drifts, and ductility requirement. The effectiveness of the proposed method are verified by comparing the results of the proposed method with those of other method.
A GA-based optimum design algorithm and a program for plane steel frame structures with semi-rigid connections are presented. The algorithm is incorporated with the refined plastic hinge analysis method wherein geometric nonlinearity is considered by using the stability functions of beam-column members, and material nonlinearity, by using the gradual stiffness degradation model that includes the effects of residual stresses, moment redistribution through the occurrence of plastic hinges, semi-rigid connections, and geometric imperfection of members. In the genetic algorithm, the tournament selection method and micro-GAs are employed. The fitness function for the genetic algorithm is expressed as an unconstrained function composed of objective and penalty functions. The objective and penalty functions are expressed as the weight of steel frames and the constraint functions, respectively. In particular, the constraint functions fulfill the requirements of load-carrying capacity, serviceability, ductility, and construction workability. To verify the appropriateness of the present method, the optimal design results of two plane steel frames with rigid and semi-rigid connections are compared.
Requirements traceability enables to reuse various kinds of software artifacts, which are the results from software development life cycle, rather than reuse source code only. To support requirements traceability for reuse of software artifacts, 1) artifacts should be described based on requirements and 2) a requirements tracing method should be supported. In this paper, we provide a description model for annotating requirements information to software artifacts by using requirements ontology. We also provide semantic tagging method users to efficiently annotate artifacts with the requirements ontology. And we finally present how requirements traceability is supported based on requirements ontology and also suggest the system architecture for requirements traceability support.
