Minority Students' Learning Patterns in Science Class (소외 계층 학생들의 과학 학습 유형)

  • As the number of minority students such as multicultural, North Korean defectors, and low-income groups increases, more research is needed in science education to help their learning. Due to the various growth backgrounds and learning environments of the underprivileged students, there is a big difference in the individual characteristics of the group rather than the whole group characteristics. In this study, we conducted about 50 hours of science lessons for seven students in the underprivileged class, categorized them by observing and interviewing the characteristics of their science learning. Seven underprivileged students showed five different learning patterns, these are 'I love science', 'I think I know science', 'I want to know science', 'I need to know science', and 'I don't know what I want'. Although the scientific activities they experienced were not all of an excellent educational quality, their interest in science learning has increased with their experience in science activities. It shows the need to provide more abundant science experience and educational opportunities for these minority students who can only experience science learning under the public educational system.

Development and Implementation of Education Program for the Science High School Students Who Entered by Affirmative Action (사회통합전형 과학고등학교 입학생들을 위한 교육 프로그램 개발 및 적용)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and implement education programs for the science high school students who entered by affirmative action. The program was developed with the goal of bridging the educational gap through effective school adaptation of these students. The program was applied, and then pre-post academic self-efficacy and self-elasticity tests and interviews were conducted. 70 students participated in the before entrance program, 56 of them participated in the summer vacation program, and 36 of them participated in one-on-one interviews related to the effectiveness of the program. In the test results, there was a significant difference only in self-elasticity, and in the interview results, it was found that the program was very helpful in terms of academic and school life. Suggestions for further support and studies were provided.

Analysis on Effects of AI Thinking Skills Coding Program on Software Development Tendency to Primary Students in Rural Areas (AI 사고력 코딩 프로그램이 농어촌 초등학생의 SW성향에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • Subjects for the study are educationally alienated class living in poor educational environment. Those students often live outside the reach of software education which is one of key capabilities of Fourth Industrial Revolution. The gap between student in rural and urban areas is becoming more distinct and schoolchildren in rural areas are further limited to access software development education under COVID-19 where face-to-face classes are more rarely conducted. To overcome the issue, AI based thinking skills coding educational program was developed and tested on children in 6 primary schools in south and north of Gyunggi-do, South Korea. Questionnaire were conducted before and after classes to research on students'awareness on AI thinking skills coding. At the end of the study, subjects showed statistically significant increase in confidence, interest, and attitude, and showed positive overall feedback on software development tendency after the program is conducted.

A Study on Everyday Life Information Seeking and User Experience of Public Library in Contactless Society (비대면 시대의 지식정보취약계층 일상생활 정보요구와 도서관 이용 경험에 관한 연구)

  • Based on the Everyday Information Seeking Behavior Theory, this study investigates information activities and library experience of 66 elderly or people with disabilities in Autonomous District A. In addition, this study analyzes contextual circumstances of daily information activities through in-depth interviews with a subset of 11 people. Although community welfare centers provide basic welfare, the elderly and people with disabilities seek to learn and socialize in cultural welfare centers, particularly in libraries. This study shows that libraries can fulfill their top three of Maslow's hierarchy of needs: Self-Actualization, Esteem, and Love and Belonging. Specifically, digital literacy education has been identified to be highly demanded. They seek to distinguish correct online information and to socialize using digital technologies in this contactless society. This study proposes a detailed plan for public libraries to offer cultural and information welfare in order to reduce the information gap within the local communities.

The Improvements of the Social Welfare Field in the 6th Edition of KDC (한국십진분류법 제6판 사회복지학 분야의 분류체계 수정 전개 방안)

  • This study investigated general problems concerning the social welfare field in the KDC 6th edition based comparative analysis academic characteristics and classification system, and suggested on some ideas for the improvements of them. Results of the study are summarized as follows. First, a main field of the social welfare is generally divided into a general social welfare, social works, and social welfare services to special classes and groups including people with disabilities, young people, aged, women, and families. Second, I analyzed on social welfare from the collection database at the National Library of Korea. Based on analysis of the data. the keyword frequency of social welfare policy and management, pensions, care services, and support works for the underprivileged was relatively high. Third, modified classification of items was basically performed through the academic characteristics of the social welfare and the keyword analysis, and maintaining the existing KDC classification system caused less confusion as much as possible.

  • This study was conducted to grasp the changing user needs, especially the changing information needs of the vulnerable groups of knowledge and information. The study analyzed the information needs of the migrants in Area A by introducing a community-based participatory research methodology. The authors cooperated with the local community throughout the entire course of the study and proposed an inclusive library strategy for the underprivileged in the A region. Migrants were in demand for easy writing materials, reading activities programs, leisure culture programs, and literacy programs. In particular, it was analyzed that services should be provided through cooperation with related organizations. As a result of the study, it was suggested to provide experiences of deeply participating in the current library and to provide various information sources (resource guides) and to promote through children.

Effects of the Urban Farm Program on the Participants' Sense of Community (도시텃밭 운영 프로그램이 참여자 공동체의식에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effects of urban farm program on the participants' sense of community. Three public urban farms in Seoul were selected and surveyed. The results were as follows: First, the effects of the urban farm program on the sense of community were verified by a multifaceted analysis. There were significant differences in the interaction and sense of community between urban farms with and without regular programs. Program participants showed higher level of activity, interaction and sense of community compared to non-participants. Program participation was the most important factor in the path analysis. Second, the number of participating group, residential ownership and duration were important factors in the sense of community. This implies that urban farm programs should target house owners with long duration, in particular socially disadvantaged classes such as single-family and elderly household. Third, diverse cultural programs related to the regional society gained higher satisfaction than the simple agricultural educational programs.

  • Information inequality has been differently conceptualized and defined in national laws. While the information inequality increases, library policy and informational service has lagged behind in meeting the needs of the society and the state. This paper aims to provide a preliminary research on information inequality, in terms of conceptualization, the legal base, terminology, index development based on the level of digital information. The paper also highlights cases on library services for solution of the difference. It compares library services designed for the disabled, ethnic minorities and the aged. The paper reviews the existing literature and project data. As a result, there are a number of processes and tasks that needs to be developed, including policy development, supporting organization, human capital, cooperating network, supporting facilities and service, and data.

Haum: Educational Mobile Game for Korean Language life Conversation (하움: 한국어 생활회화 교육용 모바일 게임)

  • The biggest challenge immigrants face is language. We realized that Korean education contents suited for it are lacking more than we thought. To help with the above problems, we decided to make a mobile game for Korean conversation education. The proposed game is based on the online course of Sejonghakdang and is composed of life conversation which can be used immediately in real. We selected female marriage immigrants from China who have a large number of foreign residents and need a lot of Korean education but have a relatively low chance of being contacted. In the case of female marriage immigrants, communication was possible, but it was characterized that the composition of sentences was not smooth. Considering these features, we chose the game method that can match the problem in the unit of the word.

A Study on Comics Outreach Programs for Contents marginalized Areas (콘텐츠 소외지역의 만화 아웃리치 프로그램 모델링 연구)

  • Content is the complex of art and technology of trend, so it is important to experience different technologies for content education. Today, many non-profit organizations plan and operate numbers of programs for disabilities, low-income, and minority families to enhance the quality of life and the realization of social integration. These programs are limited to museums and galleries, not so pro-actively in progressing. Various contend education is necessary to the expansion of cultural exchange for the culturally alienated area. Naver is running an outreach program named . It is an experience-based outreach program where current cartoon / webtoon writers come directly to the school to inform students about the basic story of comics and comic techniques. However, the fact that the is not centered on the marginalized area but is centered on the Seoul Gyeonggi area, has the limitation that they can not benefit from a wide range of programs because they have a space limit of 'school', and, has a spatial limitation that the experience of the work is excluded. 'Outreach programs in marginalized areas' must be reorganized into a fluid dimension, not a fixed, single-system program. You should be able to experience and experience your work by directly using various professional equipment of comics based on your capacity and experience, local culture, religion, and society. These program participants will gain the effect of attractive and effective learning with empathy with their comic experience. Meanings of Comics content outreach program are following: First, the rich cultural archive can be used efficiently by providing various contents to existing outreach programs with the educational limitation of museums and galleries. Second, Comics contents can be enjoyed as a part of our life by understanding diversity and technology of contents. Third, because it is the program of expertise' participation, it can remodel, and restructure the severed experience in remote areas for the continuous growth and development, and furthermore, it can enhance the understanding of society.
