This paper analyses the trends in library and information science curriculum in North America, in order to address the characteristics of the subject modules in LIS education institutions in advanced countries. The research is based on the related literature review and the analysis of universities' webpages. The analysis includes a comparison between GSLI and SIS, the curriculum and subject operations of Library and Information science courses, the number and kinds of core and optional modules and subjects.

This study aims to reveal the problems of the education of library management area in library and information science and to seek possible methods for solving the problems. It was revealed that the number of subjects of library management area was often changed by the influence of information science. It was also disclosed that the education of library management does not satisfy what the librarians' demand. The study provides the following suggestions for the better education of library management: first, the establishment of the standardization of library and information science curriculum which includes the provision of the number, title and contents of the subjects of library management and secondly, close cooperation with librarians when opening new subjects of library management area.

Since new issues and topics are emerging in the information and library science fields, diverse needs are identified to enhance the curriculum of library and information science education. This study investigated curriculum of library and information science in US and identified the topics of classes in the curriculum by the three aspects such as competency areas, scientific and technology category, and research fields. Consequently, topics related various information technology including system design and implement are the most popular topics in all analyses. Library and information center management and user service are also major topics of the curriculum.

This preliminary study examined the status of data science-related course syllabi in the American Library Association (ALA) accredited Library and Information Science (LIS) programs. The purpose of this study was to explore LIS course syllabi related to data science, such as course title, course description, learning outcomes, and weekly topics. LIS programs offer various topics in data science such as the introduction to data science, data mining, database, data analysis, data visualization, data curation and management, machine learning, metadata, and computer programming. This study contributes to helping instructors develop or revise course materials to improve course competencies related to data science in the ALA-accredited LIS programs.

With the objective of analyzing changes in the education and curriculum of library and information science in China, this study conducts the following analyses. First, with respect to library and information science education, this study analyzed changes in terms of library and information science departments and majors being offered for undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral training institutions from 2001 to 2012. Also, this study examined and analyzed colleges, areas, years of establishments and characteristics of 25 colleges that offers library and information science major. Second, with respect to library and information science curriculum, this study analyzed changes in the curricula of 1997 and 2006, while using China Education Ministry's 2003 main curricula of library science major as criteria and analyzed changes and characteristics of 2012 library and information science curricula of Wuhan University and Beijing University.

The purpose of this study was to improve an undergraduate curricular of library and information science for children's librarians in public libraries. For the purpose, this study examined current curricular provided for children's librarianship. A questionnaire survey of the educational background of children's librarian was also conducted. Based on the results, this study proposed an undergraduate curriculum model to raise children's librarians.

This study analyzed the changes in Library and Information Science (LIS) courses by investigating the LIS curriculum of Korea in the past 20 years (1991-2011). Results showed that the total number of courses increased as a whole. As the Korean educational system moved forward to the faculty system (Hakbuje), the number of basic courses increased while the number of core courses decreased. But the opposite phenomenon appeared as universities returned to the department system (Hakgwaje). Also, we investigated the domain-specific distribution of each department by separating the courses of 34 Korean LIS Departments into these seven domains: General Library and Information Science; Information Organization; Library and Information Center Management; Information Services; Information Science; Bibliography; and Archival Science. The results showed that the number of courses reduced in most domains over the past 20 years, except for the Library Service and Information Science areas. This study also explored the following phenomena: disappeared courses, changed course's names, courses that integrated into a single course, courses that separated into various other courses, and newly emerging courses with the developing age.

이 연구는 현재 문헌정보학 교과과정이 학교도서관 현장에서 요구하는 능력을 갖추는데 적합한가 라는 질문에서 시작하였다. 이 문제에 접근하기 위하여, 먼저 문헌정보학 교과과정에 대한 만족도와 현장 요구 반영도를 조사하였다. 이어, 실제 현장에서 요구하는 지식(Knowledge), 기술(Skill), 태도(Attitude)가 무엇인지를 살펴보았다. 마지막으로, 이러한 현장의 요구를 바탕으로 사서교사를 양성하는데 적합한 교과과정을 제안하였다.

This study is aimed at the status analysis and formulation of directions for the library and information science as part of major study area for the education and training of archivist. For this purpose, this study analyzed curricular of library and information science department of 35 four year universities all over Korea and the changes in the curricular of records management area and reviewed and analyzed the library and information science professors's articles of records management area which were published in 7 journals for the purpose of their publication trend. It was found out that the study trend of the record management area, as part of library and information science, was influenced by the new study fields, the increase in subject opening, founding of academic societies and publication of new journal, enactment and amendment of disciplinary character of studies, etc. Based on this, the necessity for opening of new records management courses, interdisciplinary research, investigation of records management education and researches of other study fields were proposed.

The purpose of this paper is to trace the changes in the curricula of the Departments of Library and Information Science in the past fifty years. Under the assumption that the education for librarians is supposed to be changed by the influences of the various surroundings, the curricula in the 1960s, 1980s and 2000s of the Departments are analyzed. The past data were collected by literature searches and the present ones on the homepages. It was found out that there have been many changes along with constancies in the curricula. The results are interpreted and some recommendations are suggested.
