Handoff Improvement Method of an AP Choice for Guarantee of Mobile Node Network Performance according to Speed in Wireless LAN System (무선랜 시스템에서 속도에 따른 이동노드 네트워크 성능 보장을 위한 AP 선택 핸드오프 개선기법)

  • When Handoff occurs at wireless network, existing AP search chooses one of various APs according to signal strength information. However, IEEE 802.11 uses Medium Access method with CSMA/CA that competes to obtain a channel by sharing medium. Therefore, network performance is heavily affected by the number of nodes and network congestion aside from signal strength. This scheme presented an additional AP selection indicator and a new handoff algorithm to realize handoff guaranteeing the network performance of mobile node in a process selecting new AP. This indicator is includes a handoff cost function reflecting the network information of mobile node, and the mobile node made handoff guaranteeing the network performance using network information possible by using this. also we classified the nodes into high-speed node and low-speed node. Then, when Handoff occurs, high-speed node was made itself choose AP by signal strength information. We also made the low-speed node choose its AP by using AP network information which is applied area. Hence, we demonstrate through simulation that gets an improvement in performance, even in the wireless network which many users concurrently access to, and it has considerable effects on aspects of resources and network management by distribution of users.

A Design and Implementation of Wi-Fi Based Unmanned Ship Control System (무선랜 기반 무인선박 제어시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • The unmanned ship control system controls the unmanned ship at a distance in ocean. Expecially, in order to control the unmanned ship, it needs the wireless communication networks and we use the IEEE 802.11 based WLAN. The IEEE 802.11 based WLAN technology for supporting a wide bandwidth is suitable for unmanned ship control system which has to transmit the multimedia data. First, we design the system structure for controlling the unmanned ship. Then, in order to overcome the limited communication area, we design the network structure for the unmanned ship communication network which can use a various communication network. we implemented and evaluated the unmanned ship system based on WLAN. We controlled the unmanned ship by use the WLAN and confirmed the signal feature of WLAN in the ocean.

  • In the wireless sensor network(WSN), the detection of precise location of sensor nodes is essential for efficiently utilizing the sensing data acquired from sensor nodes. Among various location methods, the received signal strength (RSS) based localization scheme is mostly preferable in many applications since it can be easily implemented without any additional hardware cost. Since the RSS localization method is mainly effected by radio channel between two nodes, outlier data can be included in the received signal strength measurement specially when some obstacles move around the link between nodes. The outlier data can have bad effect on estimating the distance between two nodes such that it can cause location errors. In this paper, we propose a RSS-based localization method using Robust Statistic and Gaussian filter algorithm for enhancing the accuracy of RSS-based localization. In the proposed algorithm, the outlier data can be eliminated from samples by using the Robust Statistics as well as the Gaussian filter such that the accuracy of localization can be achieved. Through simulation, it is shown that the proposed algorithm can increase the accuracy of localization and is more robust to non gaussian noise channels.

Access Point Selection Algorithm for Densely Deployed IEEE 802.11 WLANs (IEEE 802.11 무선랜 환경에서의 AP 선택 알고리즘)

  • In the IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN environment, the common Access Point (AP) selection of the existing terminal is based on signal strength. However, the signal strength-based AP selection method does not ensure an optimal data rate. Recently, several AP selection methods to solve this problem have been suggested. However, when we select AP, these have a latency problem and don't consider dense environments of AP. In this paper, we confirm the problem of the conventional AP selection about the signal strength and the throughput through the actual measurement, and propose algorithm that selects AP by scoring link speed and wireless round trip time to compensate the problem. Furthermore, the proposed AP selection algorithm through the actual experiment proves the improved performance as compared with the existing methods.

  • With the upcoming u-healthcare era, a way of measurement for vital sign monitoring of cardiac patients is changing as well. In existing measurement of cardiac patients, various wire in ECG measuring equipment has caused much discomfort and inconvenience. In order to decrease the problem, we are developing an efficient measurement of ECG signal using Wireless sensor network. In this paper, we present a way to reduce amount of data by transmitting ECG data collected from radio electrocardiogram sensor based on Zigbee after calculating cardiac rate. And in order to control the error which can be caused by the different ECG signal intensity each individual can has, we also suggest an adaptive pulse measurement model which can measure heart rate with correcting according to different ECG intensity. To verify the suggested model, sensor application was developed and the data was acquired in TinyOS 2.0 environment and the adaptive pulse measurement model was evaluated through the data from the experiments.

  • Nowadays, wireless infrastructures such as sensor networks are widely used in many different areas. In case of sensor networks, the wirelessly connected sensors can execute different kind of tasks in a diversity of environments, and one of the most important parameter for a successful execution of such tasks is the location information of each node. As to localization problems in WSNs, there are ToA (Timer of Arrival), RSS (Received Signal Strength), AoA (Angle of Arrival), etc. In this paper, we propose a modification of existing ToA and RSS based methods, adding a weighted average scheme to measure more precisely the distance between nodes. The comparison experiments with the traditional ToA method show that the average error value of proposed method is reduced by 0.1 cm in indoor environment ($5m{\times}7m$) and 0.6cm in outdoor environment ($10{\times}10m$).

  • On Handoff, existing AP search has chosen one of various APs according to signal strength. However IEEE 802.11 uses Medium Access method with CSMA/CA(Carrier Sensing Multiple Access /Collision Avoidance) that competes to obtain a channel by sharing common medium. For that reason, network performance is heavily affected by the number of nodes and network congestion aside from signal strength. Consequently, in this paper we propose the method that choose one AP which ensures more improved network performance and set up a link, reflecting AP network information in Handoff area, on Handoff in the process of AP selection. We also demonstrate through simulation that it gets maximum performance even in the wireless network which many users concurrently access to, and it has considerable effects on aspects of resources and network management by distribution of users.

  • Entering the twenty-first century, the technology of wireless communication develops the applications with the ubiquitous concept. It is standardized and can be choose for various uses in different fields. With this trend and the advantages of wireless system, the research is conducted to use wireless system instead of wire system to existing equipment on aircraft. Wireless system is general on aircraft. However, wire system is used to communicate ground crew and pilot and to get data from equipment installed on aircraft. In this study, a wireless voice communication system was developed to communicate ground crew and pilot on aircraft as effective wireless system. Also, a wireless system to transmit and receive voltage and current data was developed.

  • It is important to locate nodes in the research of wireless sensor network. In this paper, we propose a method that estimates the positions of nodes by using adjacent node information and signal strength in wireless sensor network. With this method, we can find positions of nodes easily because we use Information that nodes have. And we can make a map for all the nodes because we can measure a relative position for an node whose position is not known based on anchor nodes whose positions are already known. In addition, we can confirm whether nodes are placed appropriately. We confirmed that we can locate positions of unknown nodes with small error through verifying the proposed method.

  • Nowadays, wireless local area networks are widely deployed so that stations can potentially associate with an access point. The AP selection strategy is one of the significant research areas for wireless local area networks. The selection strategy solves the relevant problem is which AP can be selected and associated with a station so that the efficient resource utilization can be obtained. Rather than merely choosing the AP with the strongest received signal strength, however, we calculate effective throughput for each neighboring AP and use it as a basis for AP selection. Referencing the throughput is better than referencing the signal strength only because the network may contain a severe load imbalance. We have performed computer simulations using OPNET modeler in order to verify the performance of the proposed scheme. The results show us that the proposed selection method outperforms that of the conventional one in terms of throughput and delay.
