  • Under copyright law, the writer' work is clearly protected, and any later producer who wishes to mount a copyrighted play or musical must obtain a license from the author, which may involve sharing royalties from the subsequent production with the author. Generally, directors do not explicitly enjoy similar legal protection for their creative input into a finished production. This Article explores the unsettled issue of copyright protection for stage direction in America. Firstly, it presents a few lawsuits on behalf of stage direction issues. It examines whether stage directions are possible for copyright protection through some pieces of articles. It looks at the contract form made by SSDC which is national labor union representing stage directors and choreographers. After all, I insist we acknowledge the copyright law and the value of copyright protection for stage directors' creative input into a performing arts production. We should devise the contract forms for stage directors which are to be applicable for each situations of productions.

  • The artificial exaggeration of stage costumes is thought to be one of the major techniques of enhancing dramatic expression on stage, whichever for visual impact or symbolic effect of dramatization. In the history of stage dressing, a variety of styles has been tried using different materials and production techniques. This may be reviewed as an effort to express dramatic effects more effectively. As this trend became obvious in Europe after the Second World War, this study analyzes the stage costume to deepen our understandings of the role of costumes in expressing dramatic effects. To accomplish this, we first summarized the history of stage costume materials and technical advance and chose five major cases representing the history of stage costume since the Second World War in Europe based on aesthetic and creative aspects: 1) Simplified stage of Jacques Copeau, 2) Stylized stage of Bertolt Brecht, 3) Essential stage of Grotowski, 4) Measured stage of Robert Wilson the Master, and 5) Post-dramatic stage of Philippe $Decoufl\'{e}$. In each of particular case, the historical, material and dramatic contexts were examined as well as different material-effects. The results are as followings: 1) Costume for Copeau's simplified stage: its simplicity plays a supporting role to the gesture of actors(intensifying effect). 2) Costume for Brecht's stylized stage: the artificial stylization integrates into the play with the importance approximately equal to the actors's acting. 3) Costumes for Grotowski's essential stage: costumes disappeared to emphasize only actor's presence on stage. 4) Costumes for Robert Wilson's measured stage: costumes made concrete impression to the extent of obtaining the same importance of actor's body among other stage art elements(lighting, sound, props, actor, text, etc). 5) Costumes for Decoufle's post-dramatic stage: costumes in the era of multi technology possess multi functional aspects that surrogate actors' body. This study suggests that stage costumes take an important part in dramaturgy to the extent that the intent of dramaturgy can be induced enough from stage costume. Thus, costume makers are expected to incorporate the appropriate dramatic factor more than before.

  • This study aims to organize the basic concepts for the technical development of holograms as a medium to go beyond the range of everyday and instrumental use to artistic and conceptual meanings, and to study various forms of expression that can be used as directing tools. As an example of the researcher's directing works and projects using the similar hologram expression form, which is called the Pepper's Ghost method or the floating hologram method as the current stage utilization technology, the technical limitations of the hologram depend on the goal of directing within the scope permitted under the theater of stage art. By analyzing the correlation between holography and stage elements and the timing and point of view to obtain emotional responses from the audience, and presenting stage alternatives, more active motivation is given to the stage expression of holograms leading to future technology development and a new field of future performing arts. I want to prepare the theoretical foundation of aesthetics.

  • In this paper, we presented a design and control method of multi-stage with wagon and lift stage. Multi-stage system has 4 degree-of-freedom(DOF), i.e., forward/backward/left/right/rotate and up/down motion. Wagon mechanism in the type of two wheel and steering is proposed in order to improve for the maneuverability compared to the existing differential-type wagons. Also, the lift mechanism is designed by interlocking type in order to make the maximum height bigger than 10 times of the original height. We also proposed a path planning algorithm. The performance of the propped system is validated via multi motion experiments, so that the multi-stage system is useful for various performances production.

  • In the culture performance field, device technologies for public performances with new concept is on the rise with the advancement of science. Most designers make use of the performance devices to achieve powerful and dramatic effect in their performances. It increases the perfection of performance. Most of all, applying high technology to performances' stage leads to enhance the space efficiency of the limited stage as well as to enable us to run a fully unmanned performance. This paper proposes a reconstructible electric block system for public performances' stage to heighten the fantastic stage effect variously.

  • As success stories of using virtual reality (VR) have become more prevalent, interest in performance-related technology has rapidly increased around the world. Performances such as, Cirque du Soleil had much success in using video technology, these VR applications have enabled experiences using digital image technology. However, critics have claimed that the completeness and diversity of visual content is reduced, due to insufficient storylines, spatial composition, and partial use of the entire visual field. Therefore, the design of a performance using digital image technology should consider the characteristics of the production stage to be different from real world performances. In this study, the visual space of the stage, the method of creating space for the stage, and the movement of the performer and utilization of the performance was analyzed. Through this, It transferred the limitation of the traditional stage into the space and time of the image and opened the possibilities of the tran-media.
