Alcohol Ingestion Increases Lung Injury Induced by Cyclohexane (알코올 섭취 유무에 따른 cyclohexane의 폐 독성)

  • To evaluate the effects of ingestion of alcoholic drinks on the toxicities of industrial compounds, cyclohexane (CH) was intraperitoneally administrated to rats (1.56 g/kg body weght), which had been ingested 15% ethanol for up to 6 weeks, 4 times by once a day and every other day. Following the last treatment of ethanol or CH, blood and lung tissues were collected during 24 hours prior to sacrifice of animals. Comparing with the control group, the lung weight per body weight (%) and the protein content in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid were increased in the ethanol-pretreated group, and the glucose-6-phosphatase activity in lung tissues was decreased in the CH-treated group. In a morphological observations, pulmonary embolus were found in the CH-treated group, whereas a partial pulmonary atelectasis and a much increase in pulmonary embolus were shown in the CH-treated group after pretreated with ethanol for 6 weeks. In conclusion, these results indicate that ethanol pretreatment could enhance CH metabolism and that CH treatment with ethanol pretreatment could induce lung injury due to the increased CH metabolism.

  • Cement is a basic material for the construction industry and it requires high temperature sintering when manufacturing cement. $CO_2$ emissions from raw materials and fuels are recognized as new environmental problems and efforts are underway to reduce them. Techniques for reducing $CO_2$ in concrete are also recommended to use blended cement such as blast furnace slag or fly ash. In addition, the construction waste generated in the dismantling of concrete structures is recognized as another environmental problem. Thus, various methods are being implemented to increase the recycling rate. The purpose of this study is to utilize the inorganic raw materials generated during the dismantling of the structure as a raw material for the low carbon type cement binder. Such as, waste concrete powder, waste cement block, waste clay brick and waste textile as raw materials for low carbon type cement binder. From the research results, low carbon type cement binder was manufactured from the raw material composition of waste concrete powder, waste cement block, waste clay brick and waste textile.

  • Biotin 요구성 glutamic acid 생산능을 가진 Br-evibacterium sp.의 isoleucine 영양요구성 변이주가 다량의 L-leucine을 생성함을 발견하였다. 본균주에 관한 탄소원, 질소원, 무기염, vitamin, amino acid 등의 영양물질과 온도, 공기주입량, pH등에 관한 실험으로 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 본균주는 탄소원, 질소원으로서 10% glucose와 4% $(NH_4)_2SO_4를$ 공합하여 $30^{\circ}C,$ 88시간 배양시킨 결과, 액중에 21 mg/ml의 L-leucine이 축적되었다. Fe$^{2+}$$Mn^{2+}$의 동시첨가는 L-leucine생성에 효과적이었으며 thiamine 역시 L-leucine 생성에 효과적이었다. 30ι jar fermentor 에서 폐당밀을 주원료로 한 실험결과, 폐당밀, $(NH_4)/SO_4,$ $KH_2PO_4,$ $MgSO_4ㆍ7H_2O로$ 구성된 액체배지에서 $30^{\circ}C,$ 36시간 배양시킨 것이, 27mg/ml의 L-leucine이 축적되었으며 이때의 대당수율은 16%이었다.

노출평가를 위한 TLV 근거 - 황산(SULFURIC ACID)(1)

  • 황산(sulfuric acid)에 대한 직업적 노출기준은 흉곽성 입자로 측정하여 TLV-TWA $0.2mg/m^3$으로 권고하였다. 이 기준은 기존의 호흡기 질환이 있는 개인의 폐 기능 감소 가능성을 최소화 하기 위한 것이다. 또한 이 노출기준은 황상 에어로졸에 노출된 후 동물과 사람 모두에서 발생하는 것으로 입증된 점액 섬모 간극의 변화를 최소화하는 수준이다. 강한 무기산 미스트에 함유된 형태로 작업장에서 황산에 노출되면 후두암과 관련이 있어 A2의 발암성 추정물질로 설정하였다. 납 축전지 공장 연구에 따르면 황산 에어로졸의 입자 크기는 일반적으로 $10{\mu}m$미만이었다. 따라서 흉곽성 입자 측정의 기준은 황산 에어로졸 노출로 후두암과 기도 관련 영향(즉, 기관지 정화작용 및 폐 기능 변화)에 대해 보홀할 수 있다. "피부(Skin)"와 감작제(SEN)" 경고주석을 지정하거나 TLV-STEL을 권고하기 위한 유용한 자료는 없다.

  • Background: Pulmonary thromboembolism(PTE) is a life threatening disease that needs early diagnosis. Spiral CT angiography depict thromboemboli in the central pulmonary vessels with greater than 90% sensitivity and specificity, which approaches the results of pulmonary angiography in the Prospective Investigation of Pulmonary Embolism Diagnosis(PIOPED) study. This study was performed to evaluate the findings and the diagnostic value(clinical utility) of the spiral CT angiography with 2D image(multiplanar reformation) and 3D images(Shaded surface display, Minimal intensity projection) in the pulmonary thromboembolism. Methods: We retrospectively analysed spiral CT angiography and pulmonary angiography, lung scan and clinical recordings of 20 patients who had PTE diagnosed by spiral CT angiography(n=19 cases) or pulmonary angiography(n=l case) from September 1997 to August 1998. Among 20 patients who had underwent spiral CT angiography, 14 patients could be performed lung perfusion scan at the same time. We analyzed the vascular and parenchymal change in spiral CT angiogram.   • This study makes with the environment-friendly artificial stone which doesn't use the cement and natural aggregate and increases the blast furnace slag that is the eco-friendly material that is the industrial byproduct, fly ash, and availability of the red mud and applies the coares aggregate substitute material as the cleistothecium. The experimental plan according to it indicated the compressive strength and flexural strength which is the most excellent in the mixied ratio 40% of the result degree of closeness magnetism of experimenting with the optimal mix obtained through the preceding stude.

Clinical Experience of Atelectasis (무기폐의 임상적 고찰)

  • Atelectasis may be defined as collapse of the lung due to absence of air within the alveoli. It may involve anatomic segments, lobes, or whole lungs but also may be a diffuse miliary process, as in the adult respiratory distress syndrome. The key to treatment are the anticipation and prevention of atelectasis in various clinical situations, the recognition and treatment of underlying disease, and the prompt initiation of vigorous treatment once atelectasis is found. Repeated assessment by physical examination is necessary to determine the presence of atelectasis and its response to treatment. During the period of January, 1981 to October, 1990, 100 patients with atelectasis were treated in the department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Pusan National University Hospital. There were 70 males and 30 females ranging from 3 days to 79 years of age. The occurrence ratio of right to left side was 2.1 : 1. The underlying pathologic lesions of atelectasis were pneumonia with effusion(28), lung ca.(24), pulmonary tuberculosis(24), and chronic empyema(9), The treatment procedure for atelectasis were closed thoracostomy in 26 cases, ressection in 21 cases, therapeutic bronchoscopy in 14 cases and etc.

  • Foreign body in the air passage is not uncommon in the field of otolaryngology. The majority of bronchial foreign bodies can be removed by bronchoscopy, but some cases may require surgical procedure. Recently, we experienced an impacted foreign body (ball-pointed pen cap) in the left main bronchus with pneumothorax on the right side. Authors tried bronchoscopic removal under the general anesthesia but failed. Lateral thoracotomy was performed by chest surgeon and foreign body was successfully removed.

  • A clinical analysis of complications was done in 72 cases of tracheal & bronchial foreign bodies who had been treated in this department in the past 5 years (1977-1981). Complications were developed in 58 cases (80.6%). A total number of complications was 93 from 58 patients with average complication rate of 1.6 per case. There were emphysema in 22 cases, atelectasis in 5 cases, pneumonia in one case and combined complication in 24 cases. We had four fatal cases in our series. It is our intent to present the result of this analysis with literature review and to stress the importance of early detection & early managent.

  • We have recently experienced three interesting foreign bodies in the air way. Case 1. A spring coil of ball pen which was rusty and divided into two for one year was in the right inferior lobar bronchus of a 10 year old boy. Case 2. A bean lodged on the orifice of the right upper lobar bronchus and right middle lobar bronchus, resulted in complete atelectasis of the right upper and middle lobes of a 6 month old girl. Cases 3. A wire used in fixing a pair of socks was hanged transeversely for one month between epiglottis and hypopharynx of a 11 month old boy.
