  • A vast body of inscribed bricks has been found connected to the mid-fourth-century Tomb of Jang Mui in Bongsan-gun, Hwanghae-do Province. After several inspections of the bricks conducted at the National Museum of Korea in 2023, these inscribed bricks were grouped into ten types. This paper interprets in detail the phrases written on these bricks from the Tomb of Jang Mui in an attempt to understand their characteristics and intentions. This detailed interpretation facilitates a rough understanding of how each phrase relates to the others and in what order the phrases would make full sentences. In terms of their contents, these inscribed bricks are presumed to have been produced to convey information about the construction of the tomb to viewers on the outside. In particular, they relate that a narrator referred to as a Jubu official named Jo was involved in the construction of the Tomb of Jang Mui. They can be compared to the inscribed bricks created in China during the Western Jin and Eastern Jin Dynasties that were produced not by family members of the tomb occupants, but by figures who participated in the construction of the tombs based on political and social connections to their occupants. During the mid-fourth century, funeral practices in the former lands of the Nangnang and Daebang Commanderies followed Chinese traditions with the permission of Goguryeo Kingdom. Many of the artifacts found inside these Chinese-style tombs and introduced to the public, including the murals, ink inscriptions, and inscribed bricks, are related to the desire of the family members of the tomb occupants to strengthen their bonds and to share emotions and goals with settler groups. The contents of the inscribed bricks discovered from the Tomb of Jang Mui can be observed in this context.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the association of race distribution of Pyricularia oryzae with rice cultivar and location. Races present in a given location were different in cultivars, and the races from a given cultivars were different by location. For precise study of race distribution, it needs to identify isolates by considering cultivation ratio and collection area. There are great differences between the resistant degree in the upland blast nursery and on the resistant degree of the leaf blast and panical blast in the paddy field. The number of virulent races in a rice cultivar was not related with the resistant degree in blast nursery or in paddy field.

  • Ten isolates of Xanthomonas oryzae were inoculated to three rice varieties; 'Milyang 23' in Kinmaze group, 'Yushin' in Kogyoku group and 'Tongil' in Rantai-emas group, at the seedling stage, early-tillering stage, Maximum-tillering stage and flag-leaf stage. Much fluctuation was existed in virulence pattern of isolates at each growth stage. Especially, the isolates of pathotype II showed much more variation in virulence. This suggests that there would be more sub-divided pathotypes involved in pathotype II. Isolate G 7716 of pathotype II showed its virulence to 'Yushin' variety only after booting stage. On the result of the analysis of variance for the reaction of three rice varieties to three isolates at each growth stage; the isolates, varieties, growth stages were the main factors of variations of virulence, and the interaction of isolates with varieties was significant but other interactions were not.

  • Experiments were conducted to know the effects of seed bed temperatures on the sprouting of seeds and seedling growth in the phytotron and field. Sprouting of seeds were most uniform when seed bed was stored under the straw and vinyl mulching for 48 hours after seed bed temperature increased up to 3$0^{\circ}C$ by the sun. In the phytotron, optimum temperature was 32$^{\circ}C$ for sprouting and day/night temperature of 25/30 and 20/15$^{\circ}C$ for greening and hardening of seedlings, respectively. In the field, the best results were obtained under the conditions of sprouting in the seedling chamber heated by electricity and greening the hardening under the double vinyl tunnel in the upland nusery bed.

  • Seven hundred and forty eight rice cultivars were screened for drought tolerance at seedling stage in a special green house. A number of cultivars such as Wonkiljo, Hanyangdo, YR 52-$_{x}\textrm{BF}_7-67, Satominori, Mamoriaka, Akanomochi 114, Thkebenimochi, IR 937-55-3, IR2735-F_3B-6-2, IR 2871-53-2, $_{x}\textrm{BFI76}^9/Dwan, Khoo lliok Mali-4-2-105, Os6, Palawan, IRAT10, TOS 2583 and H-l05 seemed to be tolerant to drought at seedling stage. There was negative correlation between drought resistance score and growth of plant height and water content of culm and leaf after drought treatment, and highly positive correlation between resistance to blast and resistance to drought at seedling stage. There was no relationship between drought resistance and germination speed, plant height before drought treatment.

  • This atudy was conducted to determine the growth characteristics and photosynthesis of soybean (Glycine max L. cv. Keumjongkongl) 30 day old seedling to 100mM NaCl concentration containing 1/2 Hoagland`s nutrient solution in sand culture. The nodule formation of root is not found perfectly with NaCl stress. The leaf dry matter weight (g/plant) of stressed plant is more reduction in 77% to control than any other characters. The water content (%) is tend to increase but water potential (MPa) is tend to decrease at NaCl stress. The chlorophyll content (SPAD) is tend to increase at growing leaf age of control but decrease at NaCl stress. The photosynthesis, stomatal conductance and transpiration are tend to decrease sharply at NaCl stress.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effece of NaCl concentrations on the growth, photosynthetic rate and mineral uptake of tomato, red pepper, and egg Plant in Pot culture. The growth such as plant height, plant fresh and dry weight, root fresh and dry weight and dried matter rate was decreased as NaCl concentrations were increased. Specially, the growth inhibition of tomato and egg plant was shown at over 40 mM NaCl, and that of red pepper at 20 mM NaCl. Yield of tomato and egg Plant was reduced at over 20 U NaCl, that of red pepper at over 10 mM NaCl. Yield reduction was affected by the number of fruit at low concentration and by mean weight and number of fruit at high concentration. Photosynthetic rate, water potential and stomatal conductance were decreased as NaCl concentrations were increased. The higher the concentration of NaCl, the lower the mineral uptake such as T-N, P, K, Ca and Mg, however, the higher the content of Na and Cl.

  • For the artificial precocious breeding of abalone effects of changes in environmental parameters, water temperature and light period, on the induction of spawning have been studied. Subtidal specimens of Haliotis discus hannai were collected irregularly for 6 times from April to June 1975 in Chungmu Bay near Jukdo Island, the southern coast of Korea. One hundred and fifty specimens were reared in 4 aquarium tanks in the laboratory and in a creel submerged in the sea during the period of 60 days from April 24 to June 23, 1975. The all groups kept in the four tanks and a creel showed very high spawning rates $(70\~100\%)$, compared to those inhabited the natural environment at sea until right before the spawning time $(0\~50\%,\;average\;16.4\%)$. From the results of the present induced spawning, the parameters can be discussed as follows: It seems likely that photoenvironment may stimulate to produce and secrete some internal substances which may concern to giving the fertilizing ability to the eggs before spawning and to inducing spawning, but the temperature may not be a factor for this concern. For effective precocious breeding, it seems to require that abalones are to be realoed under controlled conditions of darkness below 2,000 lux even during day time for more than 60 days before inducing spawning.

  • This paper deals with how Korean television musical variety show rose and declined focusing the 'Show Show Show'. 'Show Show Show' was a Korean television musical variety show that ran on TBC-TV every Saturday night at 8pm. until TBC-TV was absorbed into KBS-TV in 1980. Its musical acts, of various kinds, were interspersed with comic turns and special items including dancing, mime, magic, and acrobat. Korean television musical variety show worked on what audiences had in common across generational divides till the late 1970s. 'Show Show Show's catchall format didn't cross the demographic lines like it used to. But the young generation demanded music program that spoke to their own condition in the early 1980s. 'Show Show Show' ended on KBS-TV in July 1983 through the influence of the absorption of TBC-TV into KBS-TV and the changes of cultural circumstances. The decline of the television musical variety show was attributable to the fragmentation of musical taste and the change of viewing behaviors.

  • The eighteenth century in Great Britain was the period of transformation, Great Britain externally experienced several wars intermittently mid internally transformed into the industrial country in the course of the 18th century. British shipowners were faced with short of seamen mainly due to several wars and expansion of shipping tonnage British shipowners tried to solve the mooing problem by decreasing the number of seamen from 22-23 sailors per ship of 100 tonnage in 1710's to 5 in 1810 and increasing seamen's wage from shillings per common seaman per month in the 17th century to 25 shillings in the middle of the 18th century and equation omitted during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. What caused and resulted by specialized shipowners to cope with changeable market situation with flexibility was decrease of the number of seamen per ship and increase of wage.
