금속 핵연료와 HT9 피복관의 상호반응을 방지하기 위한 피복관 내면 도금 연구

  • 소듐냉각 고속로 (SFR)는 원자력 발전의 가장 시급한 문제점으로 부각되고 있는 사용 후 핵연료를 재활용 하여 가동하는 원자로 이다. Generation IV로 명명되는 차세대 원자로 중에 하나로 국제 공동연구와 자체 연구를 통해 우리나라 고유의 기술이 축적되고 개발되고 있다. 현재 소듐냉각 고속로의 가장 큰 문제점 중의 하나는 금속핵연료와 피복관의 상호반응이다. 상호반응이 일어나면 공융현상을 일으켜 피복관의 녹는점이 낮아지고 피복관의 두께가 얇아져 원자로의 안전에 치명적인 위협이 된다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 전해도금 (electro-plating)을 활용하여 HT9 피복관 내면에 크롬을 도금하여 금속핵연료와 피복관의 상호반응을 억제하는 연구가 본 연구팀에서 진행되고 있다. 크롬과 전해도금을 코팅 물질과 코팅 방법으로 선정한 이유는 튜브 내면에 적용하기 용이하고 경제적인 코팅 방법이기 때문이다. 본 연구에서는 여러 가지 전해도금 인자 중 온도와 pulse 전류의 파형이 상호반응 방지 효과에 미치는 영향에 대하여 고찰하였다. 도금액의 온도를 $50{\sim}80^{\circ}C$, 전류 파형 중 on/off time을 1:1, 10:1, 1:10으로 하여 여러 HT9 시편을 도금하였고 모의 금속 핵연료 합금인 Ce-Nd와 확산 반응 실험을 수행하여 상호반응 방지 효과를 분석하였다. 광학현미경과 전자현미경을 이용한 미세구조 분석 결과 도금액의 온도가 $65^{\circ}C$ 이하인 시편에서는 미세균열이 심하게 발생하였고 그 균열을 통해서 물질이 확산하고 상호반응을 한다는 것이 관찰되었다. $65^{\circ}C$보다 높은 도금액의 온도에서 형성된 크롬막은 균열이 없고 상호반응 방지 효과가 좋은 것이 확인되었다. 특히 전류 파형의 on/off time이 1:1일 때 상호반응 방지 효과가 가장 좋은 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과는 크롬 전해도금의 코팅 조건이 상호반응 방지 효과에 매우 중요한 요인으로 작용한다는 것을 말해주고 있다.

Characterization of the Microstructure and the Wear Resistance of the Flame-Quenched Cu-8.8Al-4.5Ni-4.5Fe Alloy (화염급냉 표면처리된 Cu-8.8Al-4.5Ni-4.5Fe 합금의 미세구조 분석 및 내마모성에 관한 연구)

  • The flame quenching process has been employed to modify the surfaces of commercial marine propeller material, aluminum bronze alloy (Cu-8.8Al-5Ni-5Fe), and the microstructure, hardness and wear properties of the flame-quenched layers have been studied. The thermal history was accurately monitored during the process with respect to both the designed maximum surface temperature and holding time. The XRD and EDX analyses have shown that at temperatures above $T_{\beta}$, the microstructure consisting of ${\alpha}+{\kappa}$ phases changed into the ${\alpha}+{\beta}^{\prime}$ martensite due to an eutectoid reaction of ${\alpha}+{\kappa}{\rightarrow}{\beta}$ and a martensitic transformation of ${\beta}{\rightarrow}{\beta}^{\prime}$. The ${\beta}^{\prime}$ martensite phase formed showed a face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal structure with the typical twinned structure. The hardness of the flame-quenched layer having the ${\alpha}+{\beta}^{\prime}$ structure was similar to that of the ${\alpha}+{\kappa}$ structure and depended sensitively on the size and distribution of hard ${\kappa}$ and ${\beta}^{\prime}$ phases with depth from the surface. As a result of the sliding wear test, the wear resistance of the flame-quenched layer was markedly enhanced with the formation of the ${\beta}^{\prime}$ martensite.

  • The influence of plasma carburizing process on the surface hardness of SCM415 low-alloy steel (0.15% C) was investigated under the various process conditions of gas composition. gas pressure, plasma current density. temperature and time. The effective case depth was found to depend on the amount of methan gas containing carbon. thus the deepest case depth and the uniform hardeness were obtained with the 100% methan gas. The case depth increased with the plasma current density. The effective plasma carburizing temperature of SCM415 steel was found to be higher than 85$0^{\circ}C$, and the case depth was proportional to the square root of carburizing time under the same current density. The bending fatigue strength of the plasma carburized specimen is' higher than those of as- received specimen or reheat-quenched specimen.

Survey on the Recycling of Waste Slag Generated by Smelting Reduction of Deep-Sea Manganese Nodules (망간단괴 용융환원 폐슬래그의 재활용 방안)

  • Slags generated in the smelting reduction of deep sea manganese nodule could be utilized as an additional materials for making Fe-Si-Mn alloys by mixing with cokes and re-smelting at an arc furnace. In this re-melting process slag is also generated, and the secondary slag is treated as waste. In this survey, recycling of the waste slag of Mn nodule was studied. It is tried to utilize the waste slag as ceramic materials or construction materials. However, it is difficult to use the waste slag directly as an additional material to ceramics such as portland cement or castable refractory material due to the much difference of chemical compositions. As an altercation road constructing material is considered, and toxicity on the soil of the waste slag was tested according to Korean Standard for testing permissible amount of toxic substances. The test result was satisfied with the requirements on the standard. So, it should be suggested that the waste slag of the Mn nodule could be utilized as constructing materials such as road filler or base materials.

A Study on the Control of Cast Microstructure in the Aluminum Casting/Forging Process (알루미늄 주조/단조 공정에서 주조조직 제어에 관한 연구)

  • The scale of dendritic structure of a cast preform plays a key role in determining the mechanical properties of cast/forged products. In this study, casting experiments are carried out to reduce dendrite arm spacing (DAS) to smaller than 20 ${\mu}$m by increasing cooling rate of the mold and then to spheriodize dendritic structures by addition of alloying elements such as Zr and Ti-B. From the casting experiments, appropriate casting conditions for producing the cast preform of a motorcycle connecting rod are obtained. To obtain fine microstructures of the cast preform, mold temperature must set to be low whilst cooling rate being high. When cooling rate is 10 $^{\circ}C$/s, the size of DAS is 17.4 ${\mu}$m. And the degree of spheriodization of a grain in the cast preform is described by aspect ratio, which is defined as the ratio of major and minor radii of an elliptical grain. When 0.5% Zr and 0.24 % Ti+B are added to the molten aluminum alloy, the best aspect-ratio 0.75 is obtained. After forging the cast preform of a motorcycle connecting rod, the microstructure and mechanical properties of the cast preform are compared with those of the cast/forged product. Cast/forged products are superior in microstructure and in mechanical properties such as ultimate strength, elongation, and hardness.

An Analysis on Fatigue Fracture of Nuclear Pump Impeller Alloys by Ultrasonic Vibratory Cavitation Erosion (원전 해수 펌프 임펠러 합금의 케비테이션 피로 손상 해석)

  • In this study, the fatigue properties on the cavitation damage of the flame quenched 8.8Al-bronze (8.8Al-4.5Ni-4.5Fe-Cu) as well as the current nuclear pump impeller materials (8.8Al-bronze, STS316 and SR50A) has been investigated using an ultrasonic vibratory cavitation test. For this the impact loads of cavitation bubbles generated by ultrasonic vibratory device quantitatively evaluated and simultaneously the cavitation erosion experiments have been carried out. The fatigue analysis on the cavitation damage of the materials has been made from the determined impact load distribution (e.g. impact load, bubble count) and erosion parameters (e.g. incubation period, MDPR). According to Miner's law, the determined exponents b of the F-N relation ($F^b$ N = Constant) at the incubation stage (N: the number of fracture cycle) were 5.62, 4.16, 6.25 and 8.1 for the 8.8Al-bronze, flame quenched one, STS316 and SR50A alloys. respectively. At the steady state period, the exponents b of the F-N' curve (N': the number of cycle required for $1{\mu}m$ increment of MDP) were determined as 6.32, 5, 7.14 and 7.76 for the 8.8Al-bronze, flame quenched one, STS316, and SR50A alloys, respectively.

Effect of AC Current Density on the PEO Film Formation of Al6061 Alloy (Al6061합금의 PEO 피막 형성에 미치는 AC 전류밀도의 영향)

  • In this work, PEO (Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation) film formation behavior of Al6061 alloy was investigated as a function of applied current density of AC at 310 Hz in the range from $120mA/cm^2$ to $300mA/cm^2$ in 0.5 M $Na_2SiO_3$ solution. When applied current density is lower than a critical voltage of about $132mA/cm^2$, voltage reaches a steady-state values less than 120 V without generation of arcs and metallic color of the alloy surface remains. On the other hand, when applied current density exceeds about $132mA/cm^2$, voltage increases continuously with time and arcs are generated at more than 175 V, resulting in the formation of PEO films with grey colors. Two different types of arcs, large size and small number of arcs with orange color, and small size and large number of arcs with white color, were generated at the same time when the PEO film thickness exceeds about $50{\mu}m$, irrespective of applied current density. Formation efficiency of the PEO films was found to increase with increasing applied current density and the growth rate was obtained to be about $5{\mu}m/min$ at $300mA/cm^2$. It was also found that surface roughness of the PEO films with $70{\mu}m$ thickness is not dependent on the applied current density.

  • The lithium-ion battery recycling process has been classified into direct recycling, hydrometallurgical process, and pyrometallurgical process. The commercial process based on the hydrometallurgical process produces black mass through pretreatment processes consisting of dismantling, crushing and grinding, heat treatment, and beneficiation, and then each metal is recovered by hydrometallurgical processes. Since all lithium-ion battery recycling processes under development conducts hydrometallurgical processes such as leaching, after the pretreatment process, to produce precursor raw materials, this article suggests a classification method according to the pretreatment method of the recycling process. The processes contain sulfation roasting, carbothermic reduction roasting, and alloy manufacturing, and the economic feasibility of the lithium-ion battery recycling process can be enhanced using unused by-products in the pretreatment process.

IN VITRO STUDY ON THE FLUORIDE RELEASE FROM GLASS IONOMER CEMENTS AND A FLUORIDE-CONTAINING RESIN (글라스 아이오노머 시멘트와 불소함유 레진의 불소유리에 관한 연구)

  • In order to resolve enamel demineralization around orthodontic bracket, fluoride-releasing materials, glass ionomer cements and fluoride-containing resin, were introduced in orthodontic department. There were many studies about their fluoride release, but their results were controversial. The purpose of this study was to clarify the pattern and amounts of fluoride release from glass ionomer cements and a fluoride-containing resin during 70 days in vitro. Disc shaped specimens were prepared and immersed in polyethylene tube containing 2ml distilled deionized water. The daily amounts of the fluoride released from each specimens were measured after experiment 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 14 days, 42 days and 70 days. They were measured by fluoride-specific electrode combined pH/Ion meter. The following results were as follow, 1. Fluorides released from fluoride-containing resin during 1 day were significantly less than those from glass ionomer cements. 2. On experiment 70 days, mean daily amounts of fluoride released from Miracle-$Mix^{\circledR}$were $3.4{\mu}g/cm^2$, those from Fuji GC $II^{\circledR}$ were $2.7{\mu}g/cm^2$, those from $Orthobond^{\circledR}$ were $2.3{\mu}g/cm^2$, those from Fuji GC $LC^{\circledR}$were $1.4{\mu}g/cm^2$ and those from fluoride-containing resin, $Heliomolar^{\circledR}$, were $0.1{\mu}g/cm^2$. 3. There were no significant differences in daily amounts of fluoride released from between self-curing glass ionomer cements and light-curing glass ionomer cements. Amounts of released fluoride varied among commercially available products. 4. In all experimental materials, amounts of released fluoride decreased rapidly until experimental 3 days and then decreased slowly until 14 days and more slowly until 70 days.

Influence of tungsten carbide/carbon coating of implant-abutment screw on screw loosening (임플랜트 지대주 나사의 텅스텐 카바이드/탄소 코팅이나사풀림에 미치는 영향)

  • Statement of problem: Dental implant procedure has been recognized as a very effective treatment to rehabilitate fully or partially edentulous patients. However, mechanical failures such as screw loosening, screw fracture have been still reported frequently. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of tungsten carbide/carbon coating, which has superior hardness and frictional wear resistance, on implant-abutment screw loosening of three different joint connections after one million cyclic loading. Material and methods: The values of detorque before and after loading were measured in three different joint connections (Osstem Implant, Korea), one external butt joint, US II implant system and two internal cones, SS II and GS II system. The values of detorque before loading was analyzed by one-way ANOVA, and two-way ANOVA and Scheffe' test were performed for the value of detorque after loading. Results: 1. The values of initial detorque of tungsten carbide/carbon coated Ti alloy screw were smaller those of Ti alloy screw (P<.01), and there were no differences among implant systems in each screw (P>.05). 2. In comparison of loss rate of detorque value after cyclic loading, US II system was greater than SS II and GS II system but there was no difference between SS II and GS II system (P<.01). 3. Loss rates of detorque value after cyclic loading decreased consistently at tungsten carbide/carbon coated Ti alloy screw comparing with Ti alloy screw in all implant systems (P<.01), and there were no differences among three systems in reduction of loss rates by using tungsten carbide/carbon coated Ti alloy screw (P>.05). Conclusion: Tungsten carbide/carbon coating to increase preload with reduction of friction resistance was a effective way to decrease screw loosening by functional loading.
