Resource Allocation and Handoff for Mobile Multimedia Service (모바일 멀티미디어 서비스를 위한 자원 할당 및 핸드오프)

  • This paper proposes a scheme to maximize traffic capacity for supporting mobile multimedia services. For a handoff session, we suggest a novel resource reservation scheme to adjust the number of reserved resources in macrocell, depending on the number of saturated microcells. The proposed schemes are able to accommodate much more mobile sessions in the microcell and significantly reduce the blocking probability in the macrocell at the expense of the small increment of a forced termination in the microcell. Therefore, our system is more flexible to the increase of traffic in macrocell.

  • SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language)은 멀티미디어(multimedia) 객체(object)간의 동기화를 목표로 만들어진 markup language 이다. SMIL 은 시간과 사용자의 동작 포함한 많은 것들을 사건(event)으로 정의하여 사건의 발생에 따라 멀티미디어 객체들의 배열과 상영시간을 결정한다. 그렇지만 SMIL의 최대 목표는 동기화(synchronization)에 있기 때문에 대화형 언어(interactive language)에는 부족한 면이 있다. 본 논문에서는 SMIL 에 대해서 간략히 살펴보고 SMIL을 기반으로 모바일(mobil) 환경을 위한 대화형 언어를 정의한다.

  • 앞으로 도래될 유비쿼터스(Ubiquitous) 사회는 보다 효율적이고 편리한 삶을 추구하는 인간의 열망으로 부터의 시작이다. 20세기의 컴퓨터의 발전으로부터 21세기인 지금은 1가구 1PC의 시대를 열었고 현재 사회 구성원 대부분은 모바일 기기를 소지하고 있으며, 모바일 기기로 동영상 및 멀티미디어 콘텐츠를 즐긴다. 하지만 용량의 문제, 네트워크의 문제 등 내재된 문제점들이 불거져 나오게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 핸드폰 내에서의 동영상 재생에 있어서 기존의 동영상 및 멀티미디어 콘텐츠의 다운로드 방식에서 벗어나 스트리밍 방식을 제안하고자 하며, 유무선간 호환성의 제고를 통한 통신업체의 MMS 서버를 경유하지 않은 P2P방식을 제안한다. 또한 동영상 서비스를 이용하여 과금하였던 결제시스템 프로그램의 예기치 못한 에러를 사전에 예방하고 새로운 화폐의 개념을 도입하여 결제 시 일어날 수 있는 중대한 문제점을 해결하고자 하며, 앞으로 다가올 유비쿼터스 시대의 쟁점이 될 것으로 예상되는 네트워크 트래픽에 대한 문제점을 P2P방식의 분산처리로서 해결을 제시한다.

  • Since the two-way interactive broadcasting service began, remote controllers have been fitted with 4 color buttons, which enable interaction and convenience to grow between users and content. With Currently, diverse studies on IPTV are in progress. Particularly, as the mobile market rapidly grows, studies on mobile IPTV and on linkage with other media are constantly increasing. Yet, mobile IPTV has never been studied as of now. In that sense, the present study attempted to design a mobile-based IPTV UI that is fitted with more usability and functionality of 4 color buttons and multi-dimensional search based on consistent criteria for content search. The UI designed in this study was estimated using user interface design guideline. The guideline is comprised of consistency, user centered, ease of use, forgiveness, feedback, functionality, aesthetic integrity.

A Proxy Caching Algorithm based on the Analysis of Multimedia Contents Request Patterns in Mobile Environments (모바일 환경에서 멀티미디어 컨텐츠의 요청패턴 분석에 기반한 프록시 캐싱 알고리즘)

  • 본 논문에서는 실제 모바일 환경에서의 멀티미디어 컨텐츠의 요청 패턴을 분석하고 그 결과를 반영한 캐싱 알고리즘을 제안한다. 로그 데이터를 분석한 결과 컨텐츠의 연속적인 요청이 매우 짧은 시간 동안 이루어지는 시간적인 특성을 발견했으며, 컨텐츠의 다른 버전 사이의 요청 시간이 짧음을 통해서 버전별 컨텐츠의 요청이 응집되어 나타남을 확인했다. 제안된 알고리즘에서는 시간적인 특성과 컨텐츠의 인기도 특성을 반영하기 위해 측정 시간 윈도우 내에서 컨텐츠의 요청 횟수를 측정하고, 요청 횟수의 임계값 이상의 컨텐츠에 대해서 유지 시간 단위만큼의 컨텐츠 만료 시간을 정한다. 또한 공간적인 특성을 이용하여 컨텐츠가 캐시에서 제거될 때, 만료시간이 지난 컨텐츠의 다른 버전을 동시에 캐시에서 제거하는 방법을 사용한다 실험 결과 캐시의 크기가 작은 경우 제안된 알고리즘이 기존 알고리즘에 비해 $1-5\%$ 정도 성능향상을 보였다.

  • The market of webtoon is expanding and the main users' acceptance environment of webtoon is changing from web to mobile. Among this phenomena, platform companies combined various digital technologies and a new user interface to the webtoon. The major directions of change in webtoon are applying multimedia effects and actualize the optimized form for the mobile environment represented by a smartphone. This study defined these types of webtoon as 'Webtoon 2.0' and built a separate concept from 'Webtoon 1.0' which means the early form of webtoon. Through this, we propose a new standard in classifying various types of cartoons that are sporadically serviced to users. Also, through experiments with users, we checked the current status of webtoon 2.0 and webtoon 1.0 by quantitatively measuring and analyzing the degree of user satisfaction with the current webtoon. Through this, this study suggest technical and aesthetic development application of Korean webtoon which is available to platform operators, writers and users.

Design and Evaluation of a New Multicast Protocol in Large Micro-Mobility Environments (대규모 마이크로 모빌리티 환경에서의 멀티캐스트 프로토콜의 구현과 평가)

  • Micro-mobility protocols have been developed to reduce the control message overhead due to movements of mobile nodes. With the spread of mobile devices, services using mobile nodes are increasing and multicast services are becoming more important in providing multimedia services. In this paper we propose a new multicast protocol suitable for micro-mobility environments. The proposed protocol is designed to maintain optimal multicast routing paths and continue to provide multicast services without disruption in spite of frequent handoffs due to movements of mobile nodes. We used simulation to evaluate the proposed protocol, compared its performance with existing multicast protocols for mobile environments including bi-directional tunneling, remote subscription, and MMA, and observed that the proposed protocol exhibited better performance in terms of transmission success ratio and overhead on the network.

An Efficient Transmission Method of Panoramic Multimedia Contents in a Limited Bandwidth Environment (제한적 네트워크 환경 하에서 효율적인 파노라마식 멀티미디어 콘텐츠 분할 전송 방법)

  • This paper proposes an efficient transmission method for the panoramic multimedia contents. The panoramic video provides wide sight and various view-point to the user. The traditional methods of the panoramic multimedia content transmission has several limitations, as follow; A client suffers a long initial delay time to play a panoramic video when it is transmitted through a limited bandwidth network, because the panoramic video has larger data size than a general video. And if a client's display device has limited resolution, such as mobile phone, laptop PC monitor, etc. it can not display the entire panoramic video that has a wide view video sequence. So, in order to overcome the obstacles, this paper proposes an efficient transmission of panoramic multimedia contents. This method will increase the transmission efficiency throughout the technique of the scene description in MPEG-4 system. Also we demonstrated the efficiency of the proposed method by comparison with existing methods.

  • Even though a variety of types of multimedia data are being used on the basis of user characteristics and demands, all devices do not always support playing all multimedia data. Accordingly, a multimedia transcoder is used to create media suitable for each environments. This is due to the dissimilarity between the source QoS and the target QoS. Therefore, we need to consider adapting the two dissimilar QoS. Therefore in this paper, we create a suitable application-specific transcoding path with unit transcoders before performing the media transcoding in consideration of source QoS and target QoS. and the created transcoding path performs the transcoding. Here, creating a UTR(Unit Transcoder) conversion path that considers the transcoding possibility and the minimum of the UTR will allow the playback of various multimedia data with convenience. and The consideration of QoS allows users to use the multimedia easily.

Implementation of SIMD-based Many-Core Processor for Efficient Image Data Processing (효율적인 영상데이터 처리를 위한 SIMD기반 매니코어 프로세서 구현)

  • Recently, as mobile multimedia devices are used more and more, the needs for high-performance and low-energy multimedia processors are increasing. Application-specific integrated circuits (ASIC) can meet the needed high performance for mobile multimedia, but they provide limited, if any, generality needed for various application requirements. DSP based systems can used for various types of applications due to their generality, but they require higher cost and energy consumption as well as less performance than ASICs. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a single instruction multiple data (SIMD) based many-core processor which supports high-performance and low-power image data processing while keeping generality. The proposed SIMD based many-core processor composed of 16 processing elements (PEs) exploits large data parallelism inherent in image data processing. Experimental results indicate that the proposed SIMD-based many-core processor higher performance (22 times better), energy efficiency (7 times better), and area efficiency (3 times better) than conversional commercial high-performance processors.
