Thermal Stability and Surface Hardnes of UV-curable Epoxy Acrylate Coatings for Wooden Flooring (마루바닥재용 자외선 경화형 에폭시 아크릴레이트 도료의 열안정성과 표면경도)

  • Environmental friendly UV-curable coatings, having excellent hardness, gloss, mar and chemical resistance, are commonly used for the wooden flooring coatings. Especially epoxy acrylate oligomers are chosen for the wooden flooring coatings, due to their thermal stability and fast curing. In this study, we investigated the effect of the acrylate functionality on the thermal stability and surface hardness. The thermal degradations of monomers, oligomer, photoinitiator and formulated coatings with different acrylate functionality were measured using a thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). And the surface hardness was also measured with a pendulum hardness tester to compare relationship between the thermal stability and the physical property. The cured coatings became thermally stable by crosslinking during UV-curing. Both the thermal stability and surface hardness of cured coatings were improved with increasing acrylate functionality.

Study on the Oxidative Polymerization of EDOT Induced by Graphene Oxide (산화 그래핀에 의한 EDOT의 산화중합에 관한 연구)

  • In the presence of poly(4-styrene sulfonate) (PSS) and excess amount of graphene oxide (GO), we conducted in-situ polymerization of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) without an oxidant. XPS and IR spectroscopies of the product (GO-P) showed that PEDOT/PSS was successfully synthesized by oxidative polymerization of EDOT and hybridized with GO. GO-P displayed a stable aqueous suspension, however, the high content (42%) of GO in GO-P diminished electrical conductivity down to $15S{\cdot}m^{-1}$. Annealing of GO-P films at $200^{\circ}C$ for 8 hr induced partial reduction of GO and finally enhanced electrical conductivity up to $212S{\cdot}m^{-1}$.

Performance Improvement of Epoxy Resin System by the Filler Reformation (충진제 개질을 통한 에폭시복합체의 성능개선)

  • In this study, the performance improvement of epoxy resin system had been tried by the improvement of particle size distribution and globularization of filler using polymerization method. From the results of particle size distribution measurement, the polydispersity value of reformed filler was 1.04 and that of silica flour before reformation was 2.6, it could be confirmed that the particle size uniformity of reformed filler had been improved greatly and the shape of particle was globular. Compatibility between monomer and silica was improved remarkably with the silanization pretreatment of silica flour. From the results of degree of crosslinking test, it could be confirmed that the binding structure of reformed filler was 3-dimensional net structure. And it could be also confirmed that the fluidness was improved at the casting of epoxy resin with reformed filler. From the above results, it could be concluded that the reformation of filler with the improvement of particle size distribution and globularization was very successful method to improve the performance of cast epoxy resin system.

Synthesis and Comparison of EB- and UV-curable Monomers for Anti-fogging Coatings (전자선 및 자외선 경화형 방무코팅용 모노머의 합성 및 물성비교)

  • Electron beam (EB) and ultraviolet (UV) curable monomers (AF-1 with mono functionality and AF-2 with tetra functionality) containing hydroxy and acrylate group for anti-fogging coating were synthesized and applied to EB and UV-curable coating systems. The synthesized reactive AF-1 and AF-2 monomers were first formulated into UV-curable system and the optimization of film properties for anti-fogging coating was investigated. The 5:17.5 ratio for AF-1 and AF-2 was found to be the best optimized formulation for anti-fogging coating without destroying the other essential properties such as hardness, solvent resistance, and adhesion. The optimized formulation was applied to the EB-curable system, and EB and UV-curable systems were compared. The results demonstrated that both EB and UV-cured films coated on PC sheet showed excellent anti-fogging properties; however, the EB-cured film exhibited better hardness, adhesion, and water repellent properties than the UV-cured film.

  • Characteristics of pyrolysis and liquid product distribution of ABS plastics have been studied in the thermogravimetric(TG) reactor and bomb microreactor. Pyrolysis reactions were performed at temperature $400\sim450^{\circ}C$ and yield of each pyrolytic product was obtained by the weight measurement method. The molecular weight distributions of liquid products were determined by the GC-SIMDIS method. It was observed that solid residue which could not be detected in the thermogravimetric experiments was significantly formed in the batch-type microreactor. It was found that the yield and average molecular weight of liquid products were decreased with the increase of reaction temperature and time. but the formation of styrene monomer was significantly increased. The chain-end scission rate parameters were determined to be 54.1kcal/mole far ABS by the Arrhenius plot.

  • This work, which was about the synthesis of 3-(1,8-Naphthalimido) propyl methacrylate and GMA copolymers and their physical properties, investigated the compositions of the copolymer, the reactivity ratios of the monomer, resonance effect(Q), polar effect(e) and fluorescence effect of 1,8-naphthalicanhydride. Azobisisobutyronitronitryl(AIBN) as an initiator was employed at $60^{\circ}C$ with dimethylformamide(DMF) of solvent for the copolymerization of NIPM. $r_1$ was found to be higher than $r_2$ from the reactivity ratios of the monomer obtained from F-R and K-T methods. NIPM was found to be more copolymerized than GMA. The fluorescence spectrums of these polymers showed a weak monomer fluorescence band at 380 nm and a strong excimer fluorescence band at about 460 nm.

A Study on Effect of Plasma Treatment for Waste Wood Application (폐목재(廢木材) 활용(活用)을 위한 플라즈마 처리(處理) 효과(效果)에 대한 연구(硏究))

  • In this study, surface modification of wood powder by atmospheric pressure plasma treatment was investigated. The composites were manufactured using wood powder and polypropylene(wood powder : PP = 55 wt% : 45 wt%). Atmospheric pressure plasma was treated as condition of 3KV, $17{\pm}1$KHz, 2 g/min. Helium was used as carrier gas and monomer such as hexamethyl-disiloxane(HMDSO) was used to modify surface property by plasma polymerization. The tensile strength of untreated waste wood powder(W3) and homogeneous wood powder(H3) were about 18.5 MPa, 21.5 MPa while the tensile strength of plasma treated waste wood powder(PW3) and homogeneous wood powder(PH3) were about 21.2 MPa, 23.4 MPa, respectively. And tensile strength of W3 and H3 were improved by 14.6% and 8.8%, respectively. From the results for mechanical property, morphological analysis, we obtained improved interfacial bonding of polypropylene and wood powder modified by plasma treatment.

Setting Behavior of Polystyrene Mortars with Elapsed Curing Time (폴리스티렌 모르타르의 양생재령에 따른 경화거동)

  • This study deals with the setting behavior of polystyrene mortars using waste expanded polystyrene(EPS) solution-based binders. The binders for polystyrene mortars are made by mixing crosslinking agent with EPS solutions prepared by dissolving EPS in styrene. Polystyrene mortars are prepared with various EPS concentrations of EPS solutions and crosslinking agent contents, subjected to a dry curing, and tested for working life, peak exotherm temperature and 10h-length change. From the test results, He working lives of polystyrene mortars are shortened with raising EPS concentration of EPS solution and crosslinking agent content. Low-shrinkage or non-shrinkage polystyrene mortars could be obtained by adjusting EPS concentration of EPS solution and crosslinking agent content.

  • The unsaturated polyester(UP) and epoxy resin have a superior material properties and a chemical resistance using sewerage pipes rehabilitation. However, UP and epoxy have not a low temperatures harding, the requirement $8{\sim}11$ hours long times harding and heating system used by reinforcement liner. This study is to evaluate the effects of low temperature harding properties methyl methacrylate(MMA) monomer using expanded polystyrene(EPS) and UP in addition of initiator and promoters. From the test result, viscosity tends to increase with increasing EPS and UP contents. However, harding time change of the MMA resins which it follows in addition of the initiator and promoter.

  • Conversion to oil, yield of styrene and formation of side products such as ${\alpha}-methyl$ styrene, ethyl benzene, benzene, toluene, dimer and trimer were affected by residue formed during thermal degradation. Also, control of reaction temperature had a difficulty at the first stage. Thus, new reaction system using wetted-wall type reactor was proposed and examined on various parameters such as reaction temperature, feeding rate and removal velocity of formed vapor. Optimun condition was obtained from continuous thermal degradation using wetted-wall type reactor and reaction kinetic study was carried out at new type reactor.
