  • The steel plate reinforced concrete structure(SC structure) is suggested for the reasons of the saving of construction period, the saving of manpower and the advantage of quality control. The objective of this study is to evaluate basic structural behavior of SC structure under pure shear load, and shear with axial load condition and to suggest the method of in-plane pure shear loading. From the test results, structural behaviors of SC structure under pure shear load and shear with axial load were investigated the combination of validity of pure shear loading method by using 4 hinge frames was verified.

  • A general purpose of 4-node co-rotational resultant shell element is developed for the solution of nonlinear problems of reinforced concrete, steel and fiber-reinforced composite structures. The formulation of the geometrical stiffness presented here is defined on the mid-surface by using the second order kinematic relations and is efficient for analyzing thick plates and shells by incorporating bending moment and transverse shear resultant forces. The present element is free of shear locking behavior by using the ANS (Assumed Natural Strain) method such that the element performs very well as thin shells. Inelastic behaviour of concrete material is based on the plasticity with strain hardening and elasto-plastic fracture model. The plasticity of steel is based on Von-Mises Yield and Ivanov Yield criteria with strain hardening. The transverse shear stiffness of laminate composite is defined by an equilibrium approach instead of using the shear correction factor. The proposed formulation is computationally efficient and versitile for most civil engineering application and the test results showed good agreement.

  • Residual stress is one of the causes which make defects in engineering components and materials. And interest in the measurement of residual stress exists in many industries. There are commonly used methods by which residual stresses are currently measured. But these methods have a little demerits. time consumption and other problems. Therefore we devised a new experimental technique to measure residual stress in materials with a combination of laser speckle pattern interferometry, finite element method and spot heating. The speckle pattern interferometer measures in-plane deformations while the heating provides for very localized stress relief. FEM is used for determining heat temperature and other parameters. The residual stresses are determined by the amount of strain that is measured subsequent to the heating and cool-down of the region being interrogated. A simple model is presented to provide a description of the method. In this paper, the ambiguity problem for the fringe patterns has solved by a phase shifting method.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate natural frequencies of tapered thick plate with concentrated masses subjected to in-plane force on pasternak foundation by means of finite element method and providing kinetic design data for mat of building structures. Finite element analysis of rectangular plate is done by using rectangular finite element with 8-nodes. For analysis, plates is supported on pasternak foundation. The Winkler parameter is varied with 10, 102, the shear foundation parameter is 5. The taper ratio is applied as 0.0, 0.25, 0.5 and the ratio of the concentrated mass to plate mass as 0.25, 0.5 respectively. As results, we can see that when stiffener's sizes or foundation parameter are larger, the natural frequency increases, and when the concentrated mass or taper ratio or in-plane stress is larger, the natural frequency decreases.

  • This paper deals with the vibration analysis of the rectangular plates which are subjected to uniform in-plane stresses and supported on In-homogeneous Pasternak foundation. Two parametric foundation which Winkler foundation parameter and shear foundation parameter considered, is called by the Pasternak foundation. The values of Winkler foundation parameter of central and border zone of plate are chosen as k₁and k₂respectively, and the value of shear foundation is chosen as constant about all zone of plate. After composing global flexural stiffeness matrix, geometrical stiffeness matrix, mass matrix, and the stiffeness matrix of the Pasternak foundation, eigenvalue problems which are composed of these matrices are solved. The result shows that the shear foundation parameter must not be ignore when considering the stiffeness of foundation.

  • In this paper, an systematic approach is presented, in which the mixed variational theorem is employed to incorporate independent transverse shear stresses into a classical higher-order shear deformation theory(HSDT). The HSDT displacement field is taken to amplify the benefits of using a classical shear deformation theory such as simple and straightforward calculation and numerical efficiency. Those independent transverse shear stresses are taken from the fifth-order polynomial-based zig-zag theory where the fourth-order transverse shear strains can be obtained. The classical displacement field and independent transverse shear stresses are systematically blended via the mixed variational theorem. Resulting strain energy expressions are named as an enhanced higher-order shear deformation theory via mixed variational theorem(EHSDTM). The EHSDTM possess the same computational advantage as the classical HSDT while allowing for improved through-the-thickness stress and displacement variations via the post-processing procedure. Displacement and stress distributions obtained herein are compared to those of the classical HSDT, three-dimensional elasticity, and available data in literature.

  • Corrugated webs have been used for composite prestressed concrete box girder bridges. Innovative steel plate girders using corrugated webs have been proposed. It has been found that analytical and experimental researches conducted to determine the strength of trapezoidally corrugated webs can fail with respect to three different buckling modes: local, global, and interactive shear buckling. Shear buckling capacity equations based on classical and orthotropic plate buckling theories have been proposed, but these equations show some differences. In this paper, geometric parameters that influence interactive shear buckling behavior with interaction effects are identified via extensive bifurcation buckling analysis using the finite element meth.

  • This paper presents a p-version finite element approach for modeling the stress distribution around a circular hole in a finite strip subjected to membrane and flexural behaviors. Also, same problem with a crack emanating from a perforated tension strip was solved by virtual crack extension method. The p-version of the finite element method based on integrals of Legendre polynomials is shown to perform very well for modeling geometries with very steep stress gradients in the vicinity of a circular cutout. Here, the transfinite mapping technique for circular boundaries was used to avoid the discretization errors. The numerical results from the proposed scheme have a good comparison with those by Nisida, Howland, Newman etc. and the conventional finite element approach.

  • In this paper, we present a surface relaxation model in atomistic calculations for thin nanofilms. This surface relaxation model is very simple model which have only two degrees of freedoms to determine the atomic positions of nanofilms. Whereas in conventional molecular statics simulations, the same number of degrees of freedoms at all atom positions are used as unknown variables. In order to prove the reliability of the presented model, we present the results of self-equilibrium strain calculations with the surface parameters obtained from this model.

  • In the present paper, the effects of the thickness and width of a curved wide-plate, the crack length, and the strain hardening exponent on the crack-tip constraint of the curved wide-plate were investigated. To accomplish this, detailed three-dimensional elastic-plastic finite element (FE) analyses were performed considering various geometric and material variables. The material was characterized by the Ramberg-Osgood relationship, and the Q-stress was employed as a crack-tip constraint parameter. Based on the present FE results, the variations in the Q-stress of the curved wide-plate with the geometric variables and material properties were evaluated. This revealed that the effect of out-of-plane constraint conditions on the crack-tip constraint was closely related to the in-plane constraint conditions, and out-of-plane constraint conditions affected the crack-tip constraint more than in-plane constraint conditions.
