XML-based Retrieval System for SCORM-based Virtual Learning Contents (SCORM 기반의 XML 학습 컨텐츠 검색 시스템)

  • XML(eXtensible Markup Language), next generation internet standard language has the advantage of easy re-use and re-structure in other computing environment because it has the separate data, presentation and structure. In this paper, we implement the efficient retrieval system for the general user by limiting the XML documents on the multimedia learning contents for the virtual education system. The system design is based on SCO Metadata unit defined in SCORM as the proposed virtual education standard. Each XML documents has three indexes - keyword, element and attribute. Also, it makes possible to retrieve data without previous knowledge of the DTD by making the element retrieval screen structure for the user interface. And it gives the user various result screen formats such as XML and HTML by restructuring the retrieval result through XML-QL and XSL, respectively.

  • The advantages of Web Based Training(WBT) are flexible delivery of training, easy distribution, security through registration and ease of content update. And WBT also provide a powerful instructional environment. An obvious instructional advantage of WBT is the ability to provide for the delivery rich multimedia to learners. In this paper, we have proposed the curricula for the Subjects of Computer Education in University. And We implemented the Web Based Training System for the Subjects of Computer Education including the proposed curricula. The Proposed system are composed of student's learning part, lecture's teaching part, and operator's management part. And we show the Effectiveness and Weakness of proposed system, based on the students answering about various questions related proposed system's effectiveness.

Effects of Web-based Multimedia Contents for Mechanical Ventilator Practice on Knowledge and Clinical Competence of Nursing Students (웹기반 인공호흡기 실무 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 학습이 간호학생의 지식과 임상수행능력에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of web-based learning for ventilator practice on the knowledge and clinical competence of nursing students. Method: The research design was a non-equivalent control group pre-post non-synchronized design. Twenty five nursing students were collected for the experimental group from August 23 to November 26, 2004 and nineteen nursing students for the control group from August 22 to November 25, 2005. All subjects experienced clinical practices in an intensive care unit of a hospital in G city for 2 weeks. The web-based learning for ventilator practice was conducted in the experimental group only. The data were analyzed with t-test and ANCOVA using SPSS 10.1 program. Result: The 2 week web-based clinical practice learning significantly improved the knowledge scores for the experimental group, however, there was no significant differences in the score for the clinical competence between experimental and control group. Conclusion: These findings suggest that a self-directed web-based learning for ventilator practice of nursing students can facilitate the knowledge of care for a ventilated patient. Therefore, faculties should develop a variety of web-based multimedia content programs for clinical instruction based on clinical situation.

  • Digital Watermarking is a research area which aims at hiding secret information in digital multimedia content such as images, audio, and video. In this paper, we propose a new watermarking method with visually recognizable symbols into the digital images using wavelet transform, spread spectrum method and multilevel threshold value in considering the wavelet coefficients. The information of watermark can be extracted by subtracting wavelet coefficients with the original image and the watermarked image. The results of this experiment show that the proposed algorithm was superior to other similar watermarking algorithms. We showed Watermarking algorithm in JPEG lossy compression, resizing, LSB(Least Significant Bit) masking, and filtering.

  • In recent years, e-Commerce is very active on the Internet, especially the World Wide Web alone: with the popularization of Internet using high-speed networks. Especially, Circulation of Multimedia Contents like MP3 data if widely being focused as one of the popular researches. However, the existing models of AOD (Audio On Demand) System lack substantial illegal copy protection or copyright protection. In this paper, we propose an AOD System that guarantees substantial illegal copy protection and copyright protection based on the PKI (Public Key Infrastructure). As transmitting MP3 data using the user's public key, the proposed .method prevents the attack of dropper during transmitting data. Also, it guarantees the right of users and distributors by prohibiting illegal users from using MP3 data.

  • This study was designed to develop e-Learning multimedia contents to provide the first aid rescuer with the basic resuscitation, members of the public, corporations and any other institutions who wish to learn this skills. It is carried out from October to December in 2001. This program was constructed on the basic of the network-instructional system Design model, this model has severalprogressive steps, which includes the planning, analysis of the contents, development of the contents, instructional design, development of web-based and multimedia, pilot test, implement, and evaluation. The URL of this site is http://www.cyber.hc.ac.kr named as the cyber education program for the basic resuscitatingskill. This contents consisted of 8 chapters providing as follows : Introduction, anatomy and physiology of heart-ling, Adult Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation, Adult Foregin-body Air-Obstruction, Child Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation, Child Foregin-body Air-Obstruction, Infant Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation, Infant Foregin-body Air-Obstruction. To make the learning more interesting, as much animation and videos were integrated. In conclusion, this e-Learning multimedia contents will be useful for student as well as members of the public. It significantly increases the chances of saving the life of person who has collapsed.

  • With the advance of the Internet and computing technologies, e-learning is now a hot issue worldwide for providing the effective learning on the cyber-space. However, most of existing e-learning contents have been developed mainly based on text, including simple multimedia elements such as images, animations, and voices. This paper suggests a method effective for the computer programming e-learning. The method is based on program visualization using flowcharts. It features the stepwise hierarchical program visualization on the level of statements, the flowchart based visualization for control constructs of languages, visualization over whole programs, visualization compared with source codes, and interaction with users. Finally, we implement a system to realize the suggested method, and execute it for an example program.

  • This paper describes design and implementation of a content manager in the Integrated Steaming Framework Architecture (ISSA) that is proposed by the authors. The ISSA can provide an environment to develop multimedia streaming applications under heterogeneous distributed systems. The goal of ISSA is to extend the limitations of existing streaming systems. It can support diverse media formats and high level programming environment for streaming application developers. Moreover, it is independent from underlying networks and operating systems, and compatible with the global real-time multimedia database system(BeeHive) so that streaming media is efficiently retrieved, stored, and serviced. The role of a content manager is important in the ISSA environment since it manages an information of media that are provided by the server, and allow users to access media more easily by means of conveying that information to the streaming server, Web server, and client efficiently. The proposed content manager is not only to meed these requirements, but also to provide streaming information to media source and transport manager in order to be an efficient streaming. Furthermore, it supports database transaction processing by using the database connector.

  • MPEG-7 provides a lot of advantages for retrieving and editing of multimedia data by providing the information of structure and semantics in multimedia data such as digital images and audio. In this paper, a metadata generator and editor system for MPEG-7 is introduced. It suggests the overall technique and framework of generating and editing multimedia data when such content is created. This system also includes not only the functions of generating, editing and saving meta-data of MPEG-7 but also the functions of meta-data editing of moving pictures based on MPEG 1, 2 and browsing of the overall editing process.

  • At present, with the rise of smart-phone market supported the Wi-Fi, smart-phone based network content has propagated rapidly. But, network content service is difficult in feature phone and multimedia device not supporting the Wi-Fi or supporting only the bluetooth. This paper was used the zigbee technology supporting low power, low cost, availability, multi channel, broadcasting compared to the bluetooth or Wi-Fi. It will provide a variable network game development by utilizing the zigbee technology. Also, it is provide the development of variable mobile network contents using the zigbee.
