A Study on Evolution Strategy of the Next Generation Mobile Terminals (차세대 이동단말의 발전 전략에 대한 연구)

  • Nowadays, the demand for the wireless technology has gradually increased to support the services of high speed wired internet and also the interest of a mobile terminal convergence has increased. In the next generation, the mobile terminal could merge with the celluar phone, wireless LAN, portable internet, digital multimedia brodcasting, mobile game and sensor(smart-tag and biometrics) through the unified single user interface. Moreover, the system is supported to multi-mode at difference networks, which have variable functions and high performance for available service. Inthis paper, we investigate the minimum requirements and the core technologies of the next generation mobile terminals.

A Scheme for Network Selection and Heterogeneous Handover in Hierarchical Wireless Multiple Access Networks with IMS (IMS를 포함한 계층적 무선 멀티 억세스 네트워크에서의 네트워크 선택 및 핸드오버 기법)

  • Recently, the research relative to NGN(Next Generation Network) is progressing in 3GPP(The 3rd Generation Partnership Progect), IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force), and so on. Although user needs frequently mobility which is various service pattern, In accordance with the development of these various applications, IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem) and hierarchical networks ie, Femtocell/WiBro/3G etc is constructed for more user demands which provide service in anytime, anywhere. It is necessary to optimum network selection criterion which consider to wireless signal quality add to user service profile and service network traffic balance. NGN also needs a method to perform heterogeneous handover and to constraint Ping-pong phenomenon when using existing terminal-based handover decision. This paper proposes scheme for network selection and heterogeneous handover procedure in hierarchical wireless multi-access network based on SIP-MIH(Session Initiation Protocol-Media Independent Handover) with IMS by using user service profile that the considerations are dealing with not only selection and registration of various access network but also easy of developing the terminal.

  • 무선 인터넷의 급속한 성장에 힘입어, 사용자들은 다양한 무선 인터넷 환경을 통해 멀티미디어 서비스 등의 IP 서비스에 보다 쉽게 접근할 수 있게 되었다. IP 기반의 네트워크 통합을 도모하는 4G 네트워크에 대한 관심이 증폭되면서, 이러한 다양한 무선 네트워크 환경을 어떻게 통합하여 관리할 것인가에 초점이 맞추어져 왔다. 이에, 이종 네트워크를 지원하는 다중 모드 단말의 이동성 관리를 보장하기 위한 공통 접속 모듈(CCM: Common Connection Module)이 제안되었다. 본 논문에서는, 공통 접속 모듈을 기반으로 동작하는 이동 단말들의 관리와 더불어, 이종 네트워크 상에서 단말의 이동성을 제어할 수 있는 네트워크 관리 시스템인 Network Controlled Mobility Management System (NCMMS)을 소개한다.

  • In this paper, we present an SDR (Software Defined Radio) handset modem platform which supports communication systems such as HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access), and WiBro (Wireless Broadband Portable Internet). The proposed SDR platform employs DSPs (Digital Signal Processors), FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays), and microprocessors in such a way that the various communication functions like HSDPA and WiBro can be programmed and downloaded to the hardware platform. The proposed SDR platform can be used for functional verification of the physical layers of the mobile handset system in the mobile communication network. We first demonstrate the receiving structure of the physical layer of the HSDPA and WiBro system. Then, the hardware implementation of the proposed SDR platform is shown with functions and optimized signal flows required at each mode. Finally, the link performance of each mode operating on the proposed SDR platform is presented through the internal loopback tests with the test vectors. The experimental performance has been compared with the computer simulation results.

Joint Power-Saving and Routing Algorithm for Lifetime Maximization in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (이동 애드혹 네트워크에서 생존시간 최대화를 위한 전력절감과 라우팅 결합 알고리즘)

  • In mobile ad hoc networks (MANET), power-saving technology of mobile nodes is divided into transmit power control (TPC), power-saving mode (PSM), and routing. TPC and PSM are operated in physical layer but the routing is managed in network layer, so the design of a joint algorithm is needed to provide better performance. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a joint power-saving and routing algorithm for maximizing the network lifetime while satisfying the end-to-end data rate in ad hoc networks. The proposed algorithm first applies the TPC or PSM to reduce the power consumption of mobile nodes and then performs the routing by considering the decided node lifetime in order to maximize the path lifetime. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm maximize the lifetime while satisfying the required rate according to the number of mobile nodes and the level of interference.

  • 본 논문에서는 IMS를 위한 계층적 무선 멀티 억세스 네트워크 상에서 멀티 모드가 지원되는 단말이 효과적으로 네트워크에 접근하기 위한 기법을 제시한다. 단순 무선 품질만을 이용한 핸드오버는 이종망이 중첩된 곳에서 핑퐁 현상 등의 문제점이 생길수가 있다. 그러므로 핸드오버의 기준을 단순 무선 품질 뿐만 아니라, 사용자 프로파일과 네트워크 부하량 등을 고려하여 SIP-MIH(Session Initiation Protocol-Media Independent handover)를 기반으로 효과적인 네트워크에 접근하는 방법을 제안 하도록 한다.

  • A mobile device accesses large-sized data in object-based IP storage as an object unit over IP network. It relies heavily on a WLAN device, which has been known as one of the major power consumers. This paper designs and implements low-power object-based IP storage for mobile devices using an efficient WLAN power control. The proposed WLAN power control exploits prefetch buffer to maximize the idleness for incoming network traffic and controls available WLAN power modes to minimize the power consumption. Our experimental results reveal that the proposed WLAN control can save the total power consumption in a PXA270-based mobile device about 9% while playing the multimedia contents through an object-based IP storage device

  • 멀티모드 휴대 단말의 보급이 본격화되고 다양한 유무선 통신 인프라가 확대됨에 따라 이기종 네트워크 간의 핸드오버 서비스가 무엇보다 요구되는 시점이다. IEEE 802.21 WG에서는 이기종 네트워크간 심리스한 수직 핸드오버 서비스를 목적으로 MIH 표준 기술을 발간하였고, 최근에는 MIH 기술을 방송 네트워크로의 핸드오버를 위해 사용하도록 추가적인 표준화 작업을 진행하고 있다. 본 글은 이기종 네트워크간의 수직 핸드오버 서비스에 효과적으로 사용될 수 있는 IEEE 802.21 MIH 표준의 주요 핵심 기술 및 표준화 현황에 대해 알아보고 통신 네트워크와 방송 네트워크 간의 핸드오버 서비스 제공을 위해 최근 IEEE 802.21 WG 산하에 생성된 IEEE 802.21 TGb의 표준화 진행사항에 대하여 정리해 본다.

An Adaptive Estimation Model for Propagation Errors Incurred by CD in FD-CD Transcoding (FD-CD 트랜스코딩기법에서 CD에 의한 전파 왜곡의 적응적 예측 모델)

  • Recently, FD(Frame Dropping)-CD(Coefficient Dropping) transcoding is considered mainly due to the low computational complexity and simple implementation. But, CD errors in the FD-CD transtoding scheme tend to be propagated and they have a significant effect on the qualities of decoded images. In this paper, we derive the error characteristics incurred by the CD operations and propose an effective estimation model that adaptively describes well the characteristics of propagation/accumulation errors in compressed domain. Furthermore, we apply the proposed model to distortion control achieving nearly constant distortion allocation among frames. Simulation results show that the proposed model is quite accurate in estimating the overall distortions and is effectively applied to distortion control over a range of sequences with varying scene types.

Multi Frequency Thin Film Loop Antenna for Multi-media Devices (멀티미디어단말기용 박막형 다중주파수 안테나)

  • This paper is for multi-frequency thin film loop antenna used on smart phone, PMP and PDA like as a multi-media devices. We developed a loop pattern folding methods to reduce a thin film antenna dimension using that mutual coupling folding loop occurs the higher frequency resonation. To reduce the thin film size for loop antenna, we fold the loop pattern repeatedly control the coupling coefficient than generate a not only higher mode resonation but also basic resonation from loop pattern. To realization the thin film folded loop antenna, we used a $30mm{\times}9mm$ PI film the thickness is 20um so that we realize the CDMA850, GPS, DCS, PCS, WCDMA antenna simultaneously and it's radiation efficiency is over 50% and gain is 0dBi.
