Information management area faced new challenge arised from the developments of the computer and the information network, and the advent of information super highway. With deep perception of importance of the information, developments of information technologies, and change of the users' environment, we came to envision the digital library. This paper intends to describe the concept and function of the digital library, and to examine some of information technologies such as CD-ROM, OCR technology and image scanning, hypertext, hypermedia and multimedia. And it also considers the strategies for electronic information services and the applicability of the current information technology for digitalization by case studies of the existing database systems.

웹이 등장하면서 지금까지 인터넷 상에서 텍스트와 이미지를 이용하여 정보를 표현하고 전달하는 방법이 가장 많이 사용되어왔다. 그러나 웹 관련 기술의 비약적인 발달과 네트워크 속도의 증가 및 인터넷의 급속한 보급으로 단순한 텍스트와 이미지 중심의 HTML 문서를 이용한 정보의 전달이 아닌 멀티미디어 데이터를 이용한 정보의 표현과 전달이 점차 증대되고 있다. 이에 따라 멀티미디어 데이터를 전송하기 위한 스트리밍 프로토콜도 등장하였다. 최근에는 컴퓨터의 성능 증가 및 네트워크 속도의 증가(초고속 통신 서비스의 보급)에 의해 멀티미디어 데이터의 전송이 가능하게 됨으로써 기존의 공중파나 CATV 방송국의 형태 지니고 인터넷 상에서 실시간 생방송 서비스와 VOD(Video On Demand) 서비스를 제공하는 인터넷 방송국이 급속하게 생겨나고 있다. (11) 인터넷 방송은 동영상과 오디오의 실시간 전달을 가능하게 하는 멀티미디어 스트리밍 기술과 멀티미디어를 실시 간으로 전송할 수 있는 실시간 전송 프로토콜을 기반으로 발전하고 있다. 인터넷 상에서 멀티미디어 스트리밍 서비스를 하는 대부분의 인터넷 방송은 스트리밍 서버로서 RealNetworks사의 RealSystem과 Microsoft사의 WMT(Windows Media Technologies)를 사용하고 있다. 본 논문은 Real Server와 WMT의 비교 분석을 통해 실시간 전송 프로토콜을 지원하고, 멀티미디어 스트리밍 기술을 지원하는 자바를 기반으로 한 분산 서버 구조의 스트리밍 서버, 서버간의 부하를 제어하는 미들웨어, 멀티미디어 스트림을 재생할 수 있는 클라이언트를 설계하고 구현한다.있다.구현한다. 이렇게 구현된 시스템은 전자 상거래, 가상 쇼핑몰, 가상 전시화, 또는 3차원 게임이나 가상교육 시스템과 같은 웹기반 응용프로그램에 사용될 수 있다.물을 보존·관리하는 것이 필요하다. 이는 도서관의 기능만으로는 감당하기 어렵기 때문에 대학정보화의 센터로서의 도서관과 공공기록물 전문 담당자로서의 대학아카이브즈가 함께 하여 대학의 공식적인 직무 관련 업무를 원활하게 지원하고, 그럼으로써 양 기관의 위상을 높이는 상승효과를 낼 수 있다.하여는, 인쇄된 일차적 정보자료의 검색방법등을 개선하고, 나아가서는 법령과 판례정보를 위한 효율적인 시스템을 구축하며, 뿐만 아니라 이용자의 요구에 충분히 대처할 수 잇는 도서관으로 변화되는 것이다. 이와 함께 가장 중요한 것은 법과대학과 사법연수원에서 법학 연구방법에 관한 강좌를 개설하여 각종 법률정보원의 활용 내지 도서관 이용방법에 관하여 교육하는 것이다.글을 연구하고, 그 결과에 의존하여서 우리의 실제의 생활에 사용하는 $\boxDr$한국어사전$\boxUl$등을 만드는 과정에서, 어떤 의미에서 실험되었다고 말할 수가 있는 언어과학의 연구의 결과에 의존하여서 수행되는 철학적인 작업이다. 여기에서는 하나의 철학적인 연구의 시작으로 받아들여지는 이 의미분석의 문제를 반성하여 본다. 것이 필요하다고 사료된다.크기에 의존하며, 또한 이러한 영향은 $(Ti_{1-x}AI_{x})N$ 피막에 존재하는 AI의 함량이 높고, 초기에 증착된 막의 업자 크기가 작을 수록 클 것으로 여겨진다. 그리고 환경의 의미의 차이에 따라 경관의 미학적 평가가 달라진 것으로

The University's web library is a form of library that enables to deal with information about searching loaning, returning of books or data housed in it through web. With the advent of the network and multimedia following the entrance to an information-oriented society, we are experiencing a big change in how to communicate and acquire information. Massive multimedia information transmitted by image and moving picture through the network, made it possible to overstep the limit of the physical gap between information suppliers and users. Despite this important role, it is accompanied by problems such as copyright, scarcity of recognition, paralysis of infra, technical matters and reliability which demand development. In this thesis, according to the State University Evaluation Standards, search node and user interface by system used in 20 different universities possessing web-based library sites were compared are analysed. On the basis of this, an experimental user interface for web-based University libraries was produced, and various questionnaires and data leer this produced interface were collected, classified and analyzed. With the application of the results for the work above to the general search system interface of the web-based library, we proposed a new user interface that contains the following functions, such as location and loan condition of books, search frequency and steps for purchasing books inside the web library.

Hypermedia system supports associative linking concept for multimedia information using link and node concept, and overcomes the limitations of database system and text retrieval system in some application areas. This study shows the design and implementation of a hypermedia system which supports text, graphics, image and voice /sound information. This system has been designed to integrate the browsing and searching functions of the hypermedia system for efficient multimedia information retrieval and user-interface. To demonstrate the function and capability of the system, an application was made in the area of Bible and related information.

Digital library is the most important database system that needs information retrieval engine for natural language documents and multimedia data. This paper describes the experimental results of information retrieval engine and browser based on natural language processing. It includes lexical analysis, syntax processing, stemming, and keyword indexing for the natural language text. With the experimental database ‘Earth and Space Science’ that has lots of images and titles and their descriptive text in natural language, text-based search engine was tested. Combined with content-based image search engine, it is expected to be a multimedia information retrieval system in digital library

Many of the development countries in the world have been investing a lot of money and developing plans for a national digital library in order to .:em the information power in the 21st century. In order for our country to compete with others, it is also urgent to build a National Digital Library in Korea, which can provide a variety of multimedia information for the people. In this study, based on the investigation of the several cases of the national digital libraries in the developed countries, we suggest a detailed plan for the National Digital Library which includes building, facilities, equipments, organization, staff, events, frictions, and expected budget.

As Web based knowledge and technology is needed for librarians in the digital environments, it should be educated through the Department of Library and Information(DLI) courses. For importing the courses in DLI, we go through several preliminary stages. First, the role and duties of web masters in digital libraries are figured out. Second, it is known that the tendency of MLS courses in American universities is toward to adopt the web related subjects, but still not in Korea. Third, the survey finds out the recognition of web masters in Korean university libraries about the functions and abilities web masters. As the results, we suggest several subjects for the web master's training. They are HTML, XML, Window NT and Web Server Management, Javascript and Java, Networks, Mutimedia Programs, Programming, and LINUX.

21세기는 고도의 정보화 사회가 될 것이다. 이러한 정보화의 사회의 가장 중요한 요소는 수많은 문서 정보를 전자 문서로 만들고 관리하는 것인데, 최근 들어 OIS(Office Information System), 디지털 도서관, CALS/EC 등의 다양한 응용 분야에서 일한 전자 문서의 저장, 처리, 검색이 요구되고 있다. 이러한 상황에서 다양한 전자 문서의 표준들이 나오고 있고, 그 중 차세대 전자 문서의 표준의 선두로서 XML이 대두되고 있다. 따라서 최근에는 XML 문서를 저장하고 검색하는 다양한 응용들이 개발중이고, 이러한 응용들은 XML 문서의 다양한 문서 정보를 모두 만족할 수 있는 검색 기능들을 요구하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 다양한 XML 응용들의 요구에 따라서 XML 문서가 지닌 다양한 문서 정보에 대해서 검색할 수 있는 XML 질의 언어의 개발에 목적이 있다.

본 논문은 인터넷 기반의 멀티미디어 정보 검색 시스템인 옥서 '95의 정보 색인 및 검색에 대한 설계 및 구현에 대하여 논한다. 정보 구축시 키워드의 확장 개념으로서의 키팩트 추출과 모호성 해소 그리고 키팩트, 하이퍼 문서 및 멀티미디어 데이타의 색인을 한다. 또한 검색시 자연언어 질의에 대한 키팩트의 추출, 확장 및 서열처리를 통하여 사용자가 원하는 정보를 검색하게 한다. 검색대상의 문서로서 백과사전, 신문기사, 기술문서를 다루었으며 여러가지 검색 기능을 설계 및 구현하였다. 전문을 대상으로 색인 및 검색을 하였으며 앞으로 전자도서관이나 정보통신 서비스에 활용할 예정이다.

Building a new library and remodeling an existing library for the multi-cultural space is a recent trend of the university libraries. That is, the spaces for using the digital and multimedia equipments, the rooms for reading and studying, the spaces for the cultural activities such as watching movies and holding an exhibition, and the spaces for the communication and refreshment are increasing in the libraries. However, this movement of securing and providing the new spaces is not closely connected with the off-line services and happens without the consideration of how to change the librarian's role and position. Therefore, the university libraries need to plan and provide the multi-learning space rather than the multi-cultural space considering the university library is an academic organization. Additionally, understanding the purpose of the university libraries, user's need, utilization method of books and considering the librarian's roles and placement are necessary in planning and providing the space of the libraries.
