  • This study aims to develop a system for diagnosing pulse and disease conditions based on oriental medical classics to collect objective quantitative information in the traditional pulse examination environment that uses fingers. For this purpose, the study suggested a thimble-type sensor unit as the most appropriate pulse analyzer and proposed a traditional method to measure the pulse pressure wave on the spots of cheok, gwan and chon by installing the pulse analyzer on the forefinger, middle finger and medical finger. Then, it was interpretively found that this pulse analyzer enables us to objectively recognize 28 pulses defined in Oriental medical classics including the yukjo pulse, described as the buchimjisak-heosil pulse, and the hong, yoo, hyeok and san pulses. Finally, the study proposed a method to extract key parameters essential to pulse condition diagnosis from the pulse pressure wave measured by this pulse analyzer.

  • Metallic deposits in Korea have a variety of genetic types such as hydrothermal veins, skarns, hydrothermal replacement and alaskite deposits and so on. Geological, mineralogical and geochemical features including host rock, wall-rock alteration, ore and gangue mineralogy, mineral texture and secondary mineralogy related to weathering process control the environmental signatures of mining areas. The environmental signatures of metallic deposits closed from early 1970s to late 1990s in Korea show complicate geochemistry and mineralogy due to step weathering of primary and secondary minerals such as oxidation-precipitation-remobilization. The potentiality of low pH and high heavy metal Concentration s from acid mine drainage is great in base-metal deposits associated with polymetallic mineralization, breccia-pipe type and Cretaceous hydrothermal Au veins with the amount of pyrite whereas skam, hydrothermal replacement, hydrothermal Cu and Au-Ag vein deposits are in low contamination possibility. The geoenvironmental models reflecting the various geologic features closely relate to disuibution of sulfides and carbonates and their ratios and finally effect on characteristics of environmental signatures such as heavy metal species and their concentrations in acid mine drainage.

  • Ilmenite ore bodies are deposited within the Precambrian anorthosite body distributed in the Hadonggun and Sancheonggun district, Gyeongsangnamdo. This study tries to identify the occurrence of ilmenite ore body in titanium mine area distributed in Wheolheongri, Okjongmyon, Hadonggun and six mining concession areas (Danseong claim no. 64, 65, 74, 75, 84, 85) in Danseongmyon, Sancheonggun. Wheolheongri ilmenite ore body occurs as vein with about 10~50 m width and 100 m length and shows NNE strike and NW dipping. High grade ore with $TiO_2$ 20 wt% in this area is distributed in intercumulated anorthosite and is sheared and brecciated. Ilmenite occurring in this type is commonly associated with hornbelnde. Ilmenite ore bodies distributed in Danseonggun, Sancheongmyon are deposited in layered anorthosite. They occur as stratiform with variable width from several and several tens meters. Ilmenite which is disseminated in the matrix is sheared and elongated. This type shows generally low grade ($TiO_2$ 1.0~6.0 wt%). The ilmenite ore bodies occur as vein and stratiform, and the former shows higher grade than the latter.

  • The Mesozoic activity on the Korean Peninsula is mainly represented by the Triassic post-collisional, Jurassic orogenic, and Cretaceous post-orogenic igneous activities. The diversity of mineralization by each geological period came from various geothermal systems derived from the geochemical characteristics of magma with different emplacement depth. The Cretaceous metallic mineralization has been carried out over a wide range of time periods from ca. 115 to 45 Ma (main stage; ca. 100 to 60 Ma) related to post-orogenic igneous activity, and spatial distribution patterns of most metal deposits are concentrated along small granitic stocks. The late Cretaceous metal deposits in the Gyeonggi and Yeongnam massifs are generally distributed along the boundary among the Gongju-Eumseong fault system and the Yeongdong-Gwangju fault system and the Gyeongsang Basin, most of them are in the form of a distal epithermal~mesothermal Au-Ag vein or a transitional mesothermal Zn-Pb-Cu vein. On the other hand, diverse metal commodities in the Taebaeg Basin, the Okcheon metamorphic belt and the Gyeongsang Basin are produced from various deposit types such as skarn, carbonate-replacement, vein, porphyry, breccia pipe, and Carlin type. In the late Cretaceous metallic mineralization, various mineral deposits and commodities were induced not only by the pathway of the hydrothermal solution, but also by the diversity of precipitation environment in the proximity difference of the granitic rocks. The diversity of these types of Cretaceous deposits is fundamentally dependent on the geochemical characteristics such as degree of differentiation and oxidation state of related igneous rocks, and ore-forming fluids generally exhibit the evolutionary characteristics of intermediate- to low-sulfur hydrothermal fluids.

  • The Dongwon Au-Ag deposit is located within the Paleozoic Taebaeksan province, Okcheon belt. Mineral paragenesis can be divided into two stages (stage I, ore-bearing quartz veins; stage II, barren carbonate veins) by major tectonic fracturing. Stage I, at which the precipitation of major ore minerals occurred, is further divided into three substages(early, middle and late) with paragenetic time based on minor fractures and discernible mineral assemblages: early, marked by deposition of pyrite with minor magnetite, pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite; middle, characterized by introduction of electrum and base-metal sulfides with minor sulfosalts; late, marked by argentite, Cu-As (and/or Sb) and Ag-Sb sulfosalts with base-metal sulfides. Fluid inclusion data show that stage I ore mineralization was deposited between initial high temperatures (≥430℃) and later lower temperatures (≤230℃) from fluids with salinities between 6.0 to 0.4 wt. percent equiv. NaCl. The relationship of salinity and homogenization temperature suggest that ore mineralization at Dongwon was deposited mainly due to fluid boiling, cooling and dilution via influx of cooler, more dilute meteoric waters. Changes in stage I vein mineralogy reflect decreasing temperature and fugacity of sulfur by evolution of the Dongwon hydrothermal system with increasing paragenetic time. The Dongwon deposit may represents a Korean-type and/or Au-Ag type mesothermal/epithermal gold-silver deposit.

  • Pulse condition is the essential division for conducting pulse diagnosis which is one of the most fundamental and important diagnostics in traditional Korean/Chinese medicine. We studied the pulse condition referred to classics of traditional medicine for a full understanding in present time and come to a conclusion like below. The reference to pulse condition was concluded to 'twenty four pulse conditions' which is the fundamental conception generally accepted in present age since it had first mentioned in "Huangdi Neijing" and after it had passed through "Nanjing", "pulse pattern identification-chapter of normal pulse"of Zhang Zhongjing and reached "Maijing"of Wang Shuhe. Although medical partitioners had different views to some extent about pulse condition, there were no significant differences in the main theoretical frame. Even though there had been a diversity of opinions on the classification of pulse-condition between various medical practitioners, the method of Dae-dae and the method of systematic endeavored by Zhou Xueting and Zhou Xuehai who were medical scholars in the Ch'ing dynasty have been a criterion for the classification of pulse-condition up to date. We were able to recognize that the change of pulse condition caused by pathological situation should be compared to physiological pulse condition for detecting the deficiency and excess by researching the analyzing methods of pulse condition mentioned in the "Lingshu", and the book of Hua Shou and Zhou Xuehai). To sum up, first normal pulse which is the physiological pulse condition should be a standard for detecting physiological pulse condition. Secondly, Zhou Xueting insisted that relaxed pulse should be a standard pulse condition for detecting normal pulse.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the systematic process on the discrimination of Sasang constitution with the pulse diagnosis apparatus. The pulse waves were acquired at the right and the left Guan point with 1420 people who were apparently healthy. In order to minimize the effect of aging on the shape of pulse wave, the age groups of 30s, 40s, and 50s were used. Taeum group was the best to classify, Soyang group was the worst. With the same group size, the sensitivity of Soyang group was increased. Input variables were selected with the consideration of the floating-sink ratio, tests of equality of group means, multiple comparison, multicollinearity, and structure matrix. To increase the sensitivity of Soyang, the variables which could tell the difference between Soyang and Soeum were selected.
