  • In this paper, a new torque predictive control method of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor is developed based on an extended rotor flux. Also, a duty ratio prediction method is proposed and allows the duty ratio of the active stator voltage vector to be continuously calculated. The proposed method makes it possible to relatively reduce the torque ripple under the steady state as well as to remain the good dynamic response in the transient state. With the duty ratio prediction method, the magnitude and time interval of the active stator voltage vector applied can be continuously controlled against the varying operation conditions. This paper shows a comparative study among the switching table direct torque control(DTC), the SVM-DTC, conventional torque predictive control, and the proposed torque predictive control. Simulation results show validity and effectiveness of this work.

  • Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) which has high power density is usually applied to traction motor for hybrid electric vehicle. In order to analyze characteristics of IPMSM, d- and q-axis equivalent circuit analysis is generally used. However, the line current of IPMSM calculated by d- and q-axis equivalent circuit analysis differ from measured value. This error is mainly appeared under the flux weakening control. In order to reduce the error between calculated and measured line current, no-load linkage flux which is calculated with considering saturation of magnetic core and armature reaction is applied to characteristic analysis. The result of line current calculated by the method dealt with in this paper is verified by comparison with experimental results.

  • The constraint conditions are the stator voltage and the stator current to operate the motor in the flux weakening region. The maximum current is limited by the inverter current rating and the machine thermal rating. Given DC link voltage to control the motor in the flux weakening the maximum voltage is determined by considering PWM strategy, dead time, voltage drop of the inverter switching device, and the margin of the voltage for current forcing. In this paper, the new method to determine the available maximum voltage is derived by the quantitative method and by considering the factors of the voltage drop. The proposed method to determine the maximum voltage is very useful to improve the stability of the motor system and to enlarge the speed operation region in the flux weakening operation. Therefore the utility of the maximum voltage is increased.

  • This study proposes a controller that compensates torque error for precise angular velocity tracking and a method to compensate the stability of controller in implementation. Also, it is proved that the designed controller can be asymptotically stable based on Lyapunov stability theory. The proposed controller is able to control the d-axis reference current to arbitrary values and easily achieve control performance with two gains. As a result of applying to IPMSM of about 750W class, the steady state error with reference speed 1200 [RPM] is within 0.1 [%]. And it can be seen that it is an asymptomatic stable controller overcoming disturbance within about 0.2 second in application of constant load of about 5 [Nm].

  • Recently, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) drives are widely used for industrial applications due to its high efficiency and high power factor control strategy. PMSM generally have two classifications such as the SPMSM(Surface Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) and IPMSM(Inter Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors). IPMSA has economical merits over SPMSM in higher speed range, mechanical robustness, and higher power rate by the geometric difference. The maximum torque operation in IPMSM is realized by the current angle control which is to utilize additional reluctance torque due to a rotor saliency. In traction, spindle and compressor drives, constant power operation with higher speed range are desirable. This is simply achieved in the DC motor drives by the reduction of the field current as the speed is increased. However, in the PMSM, direct control of the magnet flux is not available. The airgap flux can be weakened by the appropriate current angle control to demagnetize. In this paper, the control method of optimal current vector in IPMSM is described in order to obtain the maximum torque or maximum output with the speed and load variations. The applied algorithm is realized by the proto system with torque and speed control Experimental results show this approach is satisfied for the high performance servo applications. • This paper consists of a study in post-assembly magnetization of LSPM (Line Start Permanent Magnet Motor). Recently, LSPM is noted as an alternative to the induction motor because it offers a very high efficiency and unity power factor, And it is necessary for permanent magnets to be magnetized by means of post-assembly magnetization in LSPMS because of the manufacturing cost involved. The manufacturing process is also simpler in post-assembly magnetization than in pre-assembly magnetization. Generally, permanent magnet motors are magnetized by their own stator coil or by magnetizing fixtures. However, the permanent magnet in a LSPM is scarcely magnetized by using them because of the eddy current of the rotor bar. Hence, it is necessary to design a magnetizing fixture that overcomes this problem. In this paper, the author analyses the post-assembly magnetization of a LSPM and proposes a method for designing the magnetizing fixture. The method that the author proposes is to make the number of coil turns greater in order to reduce the effect of the eddy current of the rotor bars.

  • This paper proposes a sensorless control method to improve the performance of an internal permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) control by using a full-order flux observer in a wide speed range. The conventional sensorless control method uses a constant gain for high performance at low-speed region. However, this method has drawbacks such as an increased angle error and current ripple in the high-speed region due to the fixed gain value. In order to overcome this problem, the gain of the full-order flux observer is changed by considering the angle error in the whole speed range. The proposed method minimizes the angle error for each region of the speed range by applying a relevant gain value, which improves the current ripple reduction and motor noise cancellation. The validity of proposed sensorless control method is verified by a simulation and an experiment.

  • This paper proposes sliding mode control (SMC) method for improvement of dynamic response for IPMSM based on DTC with constant switching frequency. DTC with constant switching frequency method consists of PI torque controller and triangular comparator for constant torque error status. It has the poor dynamic response compared to conventional DTC. This paper proposes improvement method of dynamic response of DTC with constant switching frequency by using SMC. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • The characteristics of the torque and torque ripple of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM) are influenced by the size and position of the rotor magnet and the size of the stator slot. This paper deals with the optimal design method for improving torque and torque ripplerate for IPMSM using Response Surface Methodology(RSM). Two objective functions of torque output and torque ripple were derived from the sensitivity analysis by Plackett-Burmann(PB) for the characteristic variables affecting torque and torque ripple. Secondary characteristic variables were selected from the derived objective function and RSM secondary regression model function was estimated by the experiment schedule and analysis results according to the Central Composite Design (CCD). The reliability of the secondary regression model was verified using ANOVA table. The analysis according to the experimental schedule was verified by JMAG(Ver. 18.0) which is Finite Element Method(FEM) software. The torque output of IPMSM applied with final characteristic variables was increased torque output by 11.5 % and the torque ripplerate was reduced by 9.1 %.

  • This study examined a brake pad wear compensation method for an Electro-Mechanical Brake (EMB) using the braking test device. A three-phase Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) was applied to drive the actuator of an EMB. Current control, speed control, and position control were used to control the clamping force of the EMB. The wear compensation method was performed using a software algorithm that updates the motor model equation by comparing the motor output torque current with a reference current. In addition, a simple first-order motor model equation was applied to estimate the output clamping force. The operation time to the maximum clamping force increased within 0.1 seconds compared to the brake pad in its initial condition. The experiment verified that the reference operating time was within 0.5 seconds, and the maximum value of the clamping force was satisfied under the wear condition. The wear compensation method based on the software algorithm in this paper can be performed in the pre-departure test of rolling stock.
