Continuity and Transformation of the Cartoon Strip for the Musical Performance (만화 소재 뮤지컬에 있어서 만화특성의 지속성과 변형에 대한 시론적 연구)

  • The article concerns the continuity and transformation of the cartoon strip for the musical performance. Recently, the cartoon strip has been considered as a resource for creating the musical performance. However, There are a few articles on the relationship of the cartoon strip and the musical performance. In this respect, the article seeks to examine the characteristics of the cartoon strip and the musical performance in terms of planning system, storytelling structure, character formation and marketing strategies. The case on the musical entitled 'The Great Catsby', which is rooted in the cartoon strip entitled 'The Great Catsby', is examined. As a result, on the one hand, the characteristics of the cartoon strip has continuously affected the process of creating the musical performance in terms of storytelling, character formation, stage management and the marketing activities. On the other hand, the musical performance considers the music and sound, the moving image and stage management, performance of the actors as an essential part in comparison with the cartoon strip. In addition, the musical performance simplifies and recontructs the cartoon strip according to the principles of the musical performance.

  • Character business is generally synthetic business over the cultural barrier and it is highly estimated because it creates high added value as emotional business when emotional marketing is the hottest thing on the market lately. So, the long seller characters are regarded as important items much further. , the typical long seller character in Korea, succeeded in both the cartoon and animation with popularity and there are plenty of OSMU (One Source Multi Use) products spinning from it. Since 2000, however, the markets of comics, animation and characters have been departmentalized, and the characters which were analytically designed, have appeared.   • Fairy tales starting with the phrase 'Once upon a time' have been told throughout generations to generations. These stories of the past started with the history of mankind, and are constantly recreated under the names of legends, fables and myths. Through understanding the archetypes frequently occurring in legends and story telling techniques used to visualize them, the possibility of better recreation of stories and animations are sought. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the original form of archetypical Jeju epic dance lyrics are adjusted accordingly to meet the author's intention as it transforms into the modern animation 'Oneuli' By this comparative analysis, the utilization of archetypes and mythic motifs in the creation of animation are expected to enhance the interactions with the audiences beyond the border and age.

  • When plan culture contents, the most important thing is storytelling that process to develop resource story and this by contents of various medium. However, the study of the methodology for the interest element design of storytelling which is necessary to produce the culture contents is insufficient. Therefore, this article is going to show a design method, when I plan the culture contents of the OSMU base, which is analysis the pleasure element of storytelling to make an interesting story and visual storytelling to visualize the pleasure elements.

성공한 학습만화 사례 분석

  • <2010 만화산업백서>에서는 2009년과 2010년 상반기 주요 이슈 중 하나로 학습만화의 강세를 꼽았다. 시리즈(예림당)는 3천만 부를 돌파했고, <만화로 보는 그리스로마신화>(가나출판사)는 2천 3백만 부를, <먼나라 이웃나라>(김영사)는 1천 5백만 부, <마법천자문>(아울북)은 1천3백만 부, <코믹 메이플 스토리>(서울문화사)는 1천 1백만 부, <서바이벌 만화 과학상식>시리즈(아이세움)는 1천 만부를 각각 돌파했다고 한다. 초판 발행 부수가 2,000부도 넘지 못하고 있는 현 만화 단행본 시장에서 이러한 학습만화의 강세는 단순한 유행이나 교육열을 넘어, 학습만화가 한국 만화 산업에 중요한 위치로 자리매김 했음을 보여주고 있다. 실제로 2009년 출판만화 시장의 현황을 보면, 어린이만화는 총 927종이 발행되어 시장 규모가 2,362억 원에 달해, 출판만화 전체 시장의 67%를 차지하고 있을 정도로, 한국 만화 산업에서 중요한 위치를 점하고 있다.1) 1970년대 '만화전집' 형태로 출판되어 영업사원들에 의해 판매되던 한국 학습만화는 1987년 고려원에서 출간된 이원복의 <먼나라 이웃나라>에 이르러 대중들에게 주목받기 시작했다. 그러던 것이 2000년 초반 <만화로 보는 그리스로마신화>와 <서바이벌 만화 과학상식>시리즈와 <마법 천자문> 등이 참신한 기획력과 적극적인 마케팅 전략으로 천만 부 시대를 열었고, 시리즈에 이르러 3천 만부를 돌파하면서, 명실상부 학습만화 시대를 열었다. 물론 2000년대 중반 인기작의 아류작들이 쏟아져 나오고, 만화 출판 경험이 없는 출판사들이 학습만화 시장에 뛰어 들면서 학습만화 시장의 거품에 대한 우려의 목소리가 아주 없었던 것은 아니다. 실제로 학습만화 시장에 뛰어 들었던 많은 출판사들이 서점 가판대에 제대로 진열조차 못해본 체 사라져 가고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 학습만화 시장은 꾸준한 성장세를 보이고 있다. 그렇다면, 천만 부 이상을 판매하고 있는 학습만화의 성공요인은 무엇일까? 본고에서는 성공한 학습만화의 스토리텔링을 유형별로 분류하여 분석해 보고, 변화한 스토리텔링 방식이 마케팅과 기획력과 결합해 어떻게 시너지 효과를 내고 있는지 사례별로 분석해 보고자 한다.

  • Animation is an artificial image created by artist's imagination. Animation is defined as "the art of the animated image" in the sense that immobile images can be seed as a living creature. In other words, the term "diegesis" in modern arts genre is generally considered as something that indicates fictional world in which narration develops. Therefore, when we say that animation world is formed based on diegesis, it represents the fictionality of animation world. The problem occurs at this point. Even thought the animation world is recognized as a fictional world, we contradictorily believe that the event occurring in the screen world are real and accept them as a true message. This condition is called "quasi-emotion". Quasi-emotion is not fake bit not real either, and it is the third emotional state. It happens when we "make believe" that we believe a fictitious figure or a situation. However, in order to actively operate this "make-believe" state, an appropriate environment and props are required, specially metaphorical imagination and storytelling in short animated film. So that this article will draw a conclusion from the method that make-believe the fictional world and communicate the message through analysing the short animate film, form Disney.

  • In comics, panels serve a variety of dramatic purposes, including controlling the flow of the story through the size, placement, and order of panels; directing the eye to where characters or specific actions take place; expressing the passage or sequence of time; and using backgrounds, lighting, and color to emphasize emotion and convey mood. When applied to VR animation, these comic panels can give users a more immersive experience of the cartoon world in the VR space. In the VR animation "Mescaformhill: Missing Five," produced in 2022, the comic panels directing is very important to guide the viewer's attention, and in the VR space, the camera angle can be freely changed to realize various visual effects, and the physical interaction brings the comic panels directing to life. This can open up new ways of storytelling in VR animation and contribute to its successful expansion into new mediums.

  • While Korea has actively discussed the fields of comics and animation, with an aim toward public art and publicity for cultural welfare, research on public cultural content for the underprivileged and their regions is in fact lacking. The Korean government has also tried to improve Korea's cultural welfare, but its benefits have failed to be evenly given to the underprivileged. Therefore, we need to take greater interest in the underprivileged and their regions. Korea should work to correct the unbalance among regions in the field of cultural welfare (cultural differences between the capital area and other regions, and between new towns and old), as well as improve the living environments of isolated areas. For this reason, such a public art project should be conducted from two directions. First, the underprivileged living in poor conditions should be allowed to live in clean and cultural environments. And second, public art, comics, and storytelling through animation should be formed with an eye on urban culture. This project aims to focus on improving "the quality of citizens' lives" through creating the unique characteristics and landscape of the city. It will be presented through the use of public art, which presents the elements of the city with charm and vitality. The two directions stated above are our urgent tasks. Public art, comics, and animation storytelling regarding the history, culture, and natural resources of the region will develop with the affection and pride of the citizens, and public art will help create an environment that allows people to discuss their issues. In addition, it will be cultural environments that will allow all citizens to enjoy beautiful streets and events. This project will be an opportunity to realize cultural democracy by pursuing social values such as publicity, communication, equality, and participation.

  • This study is based on Tim burton's 'The nightmare before christmas' and analyzation was made to see how he used lights and to understand his unique color visual story telling style. The analyzation revealed that Tim burton used second class hollywood movies of $1930{\sim}60's$ and classical lighting style. He used this lighting style in 'The nightmare before christmas' as a really strong visual structure which substantially attributed to maintains it's fantastic mood consistently.
