In this paper, an X-band oscillator is presented using a new miniaturized microstrip hairpin resonator. The newly designed hairpin resonator on the microstrip line employs the spiral structure, which shows a higher loaded quality factor and the 50 % reduced circuit area compared to the conventional one at 9.2 GHz. The oscillator using proposed resonator shows the output power of 10.87 dBm, the second harmonic suppression of 41.99 dBc, and the phase noise performance of -101.49 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset, which is better than the conventional resonator oscillator by 6.17 dB.

A microstrip band-pass filter using cross-coupled resonators is designed and studied experimentally. The cross-coupled microstrip hairpin resonator filters exhibit ripples in both passband and stopband. These ripples can improve both frequency selectivity and insertion loss. The cross-coupled filters are not only simple and compact in configuration, but also have great flexibility to form filters into a variety of size. In this paper, a microstrip band-pass filter using cross-coupled resonators is designed at the center frequency of 1.8GHz with bandwidth of 5.0% using Ensemble software. The experimental results show that the bandwidth is about 4.53% at 1.8GHz.

A study on frost prevention of fin-tube heat exchanger is experimently performed by spreading antifreezing solution on heat exchanger surface. It is desirable that the antifreezing solution spreads completely on the surface forming thin liquid film to prevent frost nucleation and crystal growth and to reduce the thermal resistance across the liquid film. A small amount of antifreezing solution falls in drops on heat exchanger surface using two types of supplying devices, and a porous layer coating technique is adopted to enhance the wettedness of antifreezing solution on the surface. It is observed that the antifreezing solution liquid film prevents fin-tube heat exchanger from frosting, and heat transfer performance does not degrade through the frosting tests. The concentration of supplied antifreezing solution can be determined by heat transfer analysis of the first row of heat exchanger to avoid antifreezing solution freezing due to dilution by moisture absorption.

Aluminum Oxide($Al_2O_3$) ceramics are excellent candidates for such applications due to their outstanding mechanical, thermal, and tribological properties. However, they are difficult to machine using conventional mechanical methods. Carbon fillers, such as carbon nanotubes(CNT) and graphene nanoplatelets(GNP)can be dispersed in a ceramic matrix to improve the mechanical and electrical properties. In this study, CNT and Graphene reinforced hybrid ceramic composites were fabricated using the spark plasma sintering method at a temperature of $1,500^{\circ}C$, pressure of 40 MPa, and soaking time of 10min. Besides this, the material properties such as microstructure, crystal structure, hardness, and electrical conductivity were analyzed using FE-SEM, XRD, Vickers, and the 4-point probe method. A micro machining test was carried out to compare the effects of the material properties and the machining performance for CNT and Graphene reinforced ceramic composites.

The evaporating heat transfer experiments with refrigerant HCFC 22 are performed for performance evaluation using 4 and 6 kinds of microfin tubes with outer diameter of 9.52mm and 7.0mm, respectively. Used microfin tubes have different shape and number of fins with each other, The experimental results are represented with effects of quality, mass flux and EPR. The evaporating heat transfer characteristics are represented by the existence of not only heat transfer area and turbulence promotion effect but also additional other enhancement mechanism, which are the overflow of the refrigerant over the microfin and microfin arrangement. Microfin tubes having a shape which can give much overflow over the microfin show large evaporating heat transfer coefficients. The effect of refrigerant overflow is much severe in evaporation than condensation. The effect of microfin arrangement is related to overflow effect of the refrigerant over the microfin.

To examine the enhancement mechanism of condensing heat transfer through microfin tube, the condensation experiments with refrigerant HCFC 22 are performed using 4 and 6 kinds of microfin tubes with outer diameter of 9.52mm and 7.0mm, respectively. Used microfin tubes have different shape and number of fins with each other The main heat transfer enhancement mechanism is known to be the enlargement of heat transfer area and turbulence promotion. Together with these main factors, we can find other enhancement factors by the experimental data, which are the overflow of the refrigerant over the microfin and microfin arrangement. The overflow of the refrigerant over the microfin can be analyzed by the geometric shape of the microfin. Microfin tubes having a shape which can give much overflow over the microfin show large condensing heat transfer coefficients. The effect of microfin arrangement is related to the heat transfer resistance of liquid film of refrigerant. The condensing heat transfer coefficients are high for the microfin tube with even distribution of liquid film.

In this paper, a $\lambda$/4 hairpin resonator is applied to reduce the size of planar resonators for a 2.4 GHz Band LTCC MLC bandpass filter. The $\lambda$/4 hairpin resonator operates as stepped impedance resonator (SIR) without changing the width of the planar resonator. It is composed of two sections those are parallel coupled line and transmission line. The characteristic impedance of two sections is different each other. The design formulas of the bandpass filter using the coupling element at the arbitrary position are derived from even and odd-mode analysis. The formulas can take account of the arbitrary coupling of lumped and/or distributed resonators. The advantage of this filter is its abilities to change freely the coupling structure between two resonators. Experimental bandpass filters for 2.4 GHz Band are implemented and their performances are shown.

The influence of measuring fixtures on the measurement of dielectric and piezoelectric properties of PMN-PT single crystal specimens was investigated. As the pressure of the jig pin which applied the AC electrical signal to the sample decreased, the lower resonance resistance was measured and the higher mechanical quality factor was calculated. The mechanical quality factor was 418 when the spring tension of the jig pin was 20grf, and the value of the quality factor was reduced by half when the spring tension was 200grf. The 4-probe fixture method is unsuitable for measuring piezoelectric properties, but it was suitable for the measurement of dielectric loss. In order to accurately evaluate the piezoelectric properties of PMN-PT, it is necessary to lower the spring tension of the jig pin as much as possible.

Recently, electronic components are becoming smaller and highly integrated. As a result, electromagnetic interference (EMI) and heat generation problems must be solved simultaneously with a small area and thickness. Graphene composites and graphite composites are lightweight materials that can simultaneously solve EMI shielding and heat dissipation problems with excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. With the recent development of synthetic technology and composite manufacturing technology, the research to application of their composites is increasing. In this paper, we reviewed the latest researches on composite films of graphene and graphite for EMI shielding and heat dissipation.

A small microstrip monopole antenna for macro-micro frequency tuning over multiple bands is presented. The meander-shape antenna is fabricated on a conventional printed circuit board(FR-4, $\varepsilon_r=4.4$ and tan $\delta=0.02$). The antenna operates over WiBro(2.3~2.4 GHz) and WLAN a/b(2.4~2.5 GHz/5.15~5.35 GHz) service bands with an essentially constant antenna gain within each service band. Two diodes, a PIN diode and a varactor, are embedded into the antenna for frequency reconfiguration. The PIN diode is used for frequency switching(macro-tuning) between 2 GHz and 5 GHz bands while the varactor is used for frequency tuning(micro-tuning) within the service bands, 2.3~2.5 GHz and 5.15~5.35 GHz. Unwanted resonances between the two frequency bands(2 GHz and 5 GHz) are suppressed by filling up the gaps between the meander lines. The antenna gain is essentially constant and higher than 2 dBi within each service band. The measured performance of the proposed antenna system suggests the macro-micro frequency tuning techniques be useful in reconfigurable wireless communication systems.
