  • In general, life jackets are worn by people in critical situations on the water to rise to the surface without falling into water, and life jackets simply serve to prevent sinking, but do not actively help rescue disaster areas in critical situations early. In order to solve this problem, a device that automatically generates a distress signal in an emergency situation was developed. When the survivor is in hand for a while, the distress signal generator is automatically separated from the life jacket, allowing information such as location values and other information to be transmitted wirelessly and a rescue signal using LED light. As a result of the experiment, when submerged in water, the life jacket and the distress signal generator were automatically separated, and the result of wireless transmission of the coordinate value of the location received by the GPS was confirmed. By using this, the location of the distress or missing person can be identified, which can be quickly replaced in case of an emergency

  • I am designing a research paper with the aim of studying hybrid vehicles. Hybrid vehicles, as the next-generation automobiles, feature a combination of internal combustion engines and battery engines, resulting in a revolutionary reduction in fuel consumption and harmful gas emissions compared to conventional vehicles. The electric motor in hybrid cars derives power from a high-voltage battery installed within the vehicle, which is recharged during vehicle motion. In contrast to traditional cars, which often experience energy losses due to idling caused by traffic congestion, hybrid systems optimize efficiency by skillfully managing the interplay between the internal combustion engine and the electric motor. This approach effectively addresses the inherent drawbacks of gasoline or diesel engines.Hybrid cars offer an array of benefits, including improved fuel efficiency, environmental friendliness, cost-effectiveness, and reduced noise emission. Consequently, they are progressively becoming a favored alternative among a growing number of individuals. This research endeavor has the potential to contribute towards curbing environmental pollution and dedicating efforts to future automotive research.

  • The demand for lightweight and high-strength materials is increasing. However, studies on the bond of concrete and reinforcing bars for high-strength lightweight concrete with a compressive strength of 120 MPa and a unit weight of 20 kN/m3 to structural members are lacking. Therefore, in this paper, 108 specimens of high-strength lightweight concrete with a compressive strength of 120 MPa and a unit weight of about 20 kN/m3 were fabricated, a direct pull-out test was performed, and the bond characteristics were evaluated by comparing the test results with design code. Compared to the decrease in unit weight, the solid bubble shows relatively little reduction in compressive strength and modulus of elasticity. It was f ound to have larger slip and parameter values than concrete with low compressive strength and unit weight.

  • Shucking(removing the meat from the shell) an oyster requires that the muscle attachments to the two shell valves and the hinge be severed. Described here is the computer vision software needed to locate the oyster hinge line so it can be automatically severed, one step in development of an automated oyster shucker. Oysters are first prepared by washing and trimming off a small shell piece on the oyster hinge end to provide access to the outer hinge surface. A computer vision system employing a color video comera then gabs an image of the hinge end of the oyster shell. This image is Processed by the computer using software. The software is a combination of commercially available and custom written routines that locate the oyster hinge. The software uses four feature variables, circularity, rectangularity, aspect-ration, and Euclidian distance, to distinguish the hinge object from other dark colored objects on the hinge end of the oyster. Several techniques, including shrink-expand, thresholding, and others, were used to secure an image that could be reliably and efficiently processed to locate the oyster hinge line.

  • Recently, the destructive power of typhoons is continuously increasing due to the influence of global warming. In a situation where the installation of floating wind turbines is increasing around the world, concerns about the huge loss and collapse of floating offshore wind turbines due to strong typhoons are deepening. Regarding to the safe operation of the floating offshore wind turbine, the development of a new type of disconnectable mooring system is required. A new fairlead chain stopper considered in this study is devised to more easily attach or detach the floating offshore wind turbine with mooring lines comparing to other disconnectable mooring apparatuses. In order to investigate the structural safety of the initial design of fairlead chain stopper that can be applied to MW-class floating type offshore wind turbine, scale-down structural models were produced using a 3-D printer and structural tests were performed on the models. For the structural tests of the scale-down models, tensile specimens of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene material that was used in the 3-D printing were prepared, and the material properties were evaluated by performing the tensile tests. The finite element analysis of fairlead chain stopper was performed by applying the material properties obtained from the tensile tests and the same load and boundary conditions as in the scale-down model structural tests. Through the finite element analysis, the structural weak parts on the fairlead chain stopper were reviewed. The structural model tests were performed considering the main load conditions of fairlead chain stopper, and the test results were compared to the finite element analysis. Through the results of this study, it was possible to experimentally verify the structural safety of the initial design of fairlead chain stopper. It is also judged that the study results can be usefully used to improve the structural strength of fairlead chain stopper in a detailed design stage.

  • With subdivision of customers and markets, today, domains to design are expanding. When design merges with other spheres of design, it is important to convey a consistent message to customers. For delivering a message consistently and clearly, there is a need to reconcile different views in design processes. In this study, each design process was analyzed and the sequence was adjusted using the DSM methodology for understanding mutual dependent relations. For this, process activity elements were extracted with experts and a survey on related elements was conducted. Then the survey findings were divided for working out the sequence and based on the views regarding the sequence, a total design process was created.. As a result, the processes were combined into one sequence and there was a collaboration at the 10th stage. Also, a methodology used in collaboration and significant elements were analyzed. In conclusion, it is anticipated that this total design process would provide a more objective and scientific approach in collaboration among various spheres of design and help in reducing lead time.

  • A simulation technique can be used to analyze performance measures and support decision makings in manufacturing systems considering operational uncertainty and complexity. The simulation requires an input modeling procedure to reflect the target system's characteristics. However, data collection to build a simulation is quite limited when a target system includes manual productions with a lot of operational time such as construction equipment assembly lines. This study proposes a procedure for simulation input modeling using video data when it is difficult to collect enough input data to fit a probability distribution. We conducted a video-data analysis and specify input distributions for the simulation. Based on the proposed procedure, simulation experiments were conducted to evaluate key performance measures of the target system. We also expect that the proposed procedure may help simulation-based decision makings when obtaining input data for a simulation modeling is quite challenging.

  • Recently, fallow paddy land located in the mid-mountain area (FPL) due to a decrease in rice consumption has increased in some regions of our country. So, grasses and forage crops available for years in once sowing should be introduced in FPL. This study was conducted to develop the technique for cultivation of grasses and forage crops using animal manure in FPL The field experiments were carried out from 2007 to 2009 on FPL at Kumsan, Chungbuk province in Korea. Cattle feedlot manure (CFM) was prepared by mixing feces and urine of cattle with rice straw in cattle feedlot for 6 months. The experimental plots were consisted of four treatments; tall fescue-based mixed pasture applied with chemical fertilizer (Control), mono-tall fescue pasture (MTFP), tall fescue-based mixed pasture (TFBMP), mono-Perennial ryegrass (MPR-FCM), mono-Italian ryegrass (MIR-FCM), mono-Red clover (MRC-FCM) and mono-Reed canarygrass (MRCG-FCM) applied with FCM. The field of tall fescue-based pasture had been sown with a grasses mixture containing 'Fawn' tall fescue, 'potomac' orchardgrass, 'Reveille' Perennial ryegrass, and 'kenblue' Kentuky bluegrass, 'Kenland' Red clover. Seeding rates were 16, 6, 4, 2 and $2\;ha^{-1}$, respectively. DM yields of forages and rates of grass coverage was higher in MTFP, TFBMP and MRCG-FCM as compated with control treatment. This result means that FPL has contained with favorable conditions for growing grass, because forage productivity is more than 15 tons per ha per year in fallow paddy land. In addition, the farmer can save the trouble of repeated plowing and sowing every year, due to the introduction of perennial grasses. The farmer must conduct the re-seeding and induce the improvement of management methods for the elevation of the persistence of red clover and perennial ryegrass, because both red clover and perennial ryegrass having high nutritive value and palatability was less persistent. Therefore, we suggest that FPL may be the good land for forage production utilizing FCM and FCM can be applied on FPL without any negative effects on DM production and the property of soil. FPL of Korea can be better utilized by applying FCM to the mono and/or mixed swards.
