  • This report presents the survey findings on the proportioning of ready mixed, concrete mixtures. According to this report, the W/C ratio and S/A ratio, based upon the type 25-210-12, in mix proportion of ready mixed concrete are 53% and 45% respectively. The problems to be improved, coming out in this study, are (1)using the adequate quantity of cement (2) alternation of mix design cope with the change of kinds of aggregates (3)large standard error in the mix proportion.

  • In this study, conventional aggregate obtained from a ready mixed concrete factory and the aggregate with a modified grading produced in lab. condition were prepared. Results showed that a good grading of aggregate the ratio of 5~13 mm and 13~25 mm is 20~40 % produced in the lab. condition significantly improved the slump and the compressive strength of the concrete.

  • This study investigates the effect of a grading of aggregate on the properties of concrete. It is a common sense in Korea that the production of coarse aggregate in ready mixed concrete industry excludes particular aggregate size ranged from 5 mm to 13 mm for saving the production cost. This causes a gap grading of the aggregate for concrete, which can lead to the increase of unit water, the development of drying shrinkage-induced crack and the reduction of compressive strength. In this study, conventional aggregate obtained from a ready mixed concrete factory and the aggregate with a modified grading produced in lab. condition were prepared. Results showed that a good grading of aggregate (i.e., the ratio of 5~13 mm and 13~25 mm is 6 to 4) produced in the lab. condition significantly improved the slump and the compressive strength of the concrete.

  • Recently, trouble of sand supplying is occurred according to exhaustion of natural sand resources. Therefore various measures are proposed for solution of trouble of sand supply and crushed sand among measures is used as one of most universal measures. But because crushed sand have poor particle shape and plenty of makes micro particle, the quality of concrete using crushed sand deteriorated. Therefore, this study evaluated engineering property of concrete with replacement ratio of crushed sand and EEZ sand and applied evaluation result to fundamental data for quality control of concrete using crushed sand and EEZ sand. The result of this study have shown that quality of concrete using crushed sand and EEZ sand and The compressive strength of concrete up to 50, 70% EEZ sand replacement by crush sand, nearly equal to that of general sand.

  • This study analyzed a comprehensive database including 6331 ready-mixed concrete plant mixtures to quantitatively assess the environmental impact of concrete under mixture proportions variable according to the domestic region and season. The environmental impact indicator includes global warming, photochemical oxidant creation, abiotic resource depletion, acidification, eutrophication and human toxicity, which are determined from categorization, characterization, normalization and weighting process based on Korea lifecycle inventories. The determined environmental impact indicator was also normalized by concrete compressive strength ($f_{ck}$), which is defined as impact index, to calculate the environmental impact per unit strength of 1 MPa. The most common compressive strength of concrete used in the country is estimated to be 24 MPa and 27 MPa. For $f_{ct}$ of 24 MPa, the lowest environmental impact indicator is observed in Ulsan, whereas the highest region is Gwangju and Daegu. This difference according to domestic region is primarily resulted from by the replacement of different supplementary cementitious materials. Furthermore, the impact index of concrete with $f_{ck}$ of 24 MPa is higher by approximately 5% at wintertime than at summertime and standard season. The impact index gradually decreases with the increase of $f_{ck}$ up to 35 MPa, beyond which it remains constant.

  • A survey of concrete plants in Incheon Metropolitan City and Gyeonggi Province was used to conduct an analysis of aggregate transport distance and production forms, as well as to evaluate the features and current status of aggregates distribution. As a result, areas such as Incheon, Siheung, Bucheon, Gimpo, and Siheung, where the distance to the demand points is less than 20 km, exhibited bidirectional distribution whereas Paju, Yongin, Yangju, and Pocheon, with distances ranging from 20 to 50 km is showed a unidirectional distribution pattern supplying aggregates exclusively to Incheon. Survey on manufacturing forms, more than 85% of the gravel dispersed in the Incheon area is made up of crushed aggregates derived from rocks discharged at construction sites indicating a considerable skew in supply chain. These findings are predicted to have a detrimental influence on aggregate supply in the long run, necessitating policy changes targeted at building an optimal aggregate distribution market.
