  • Heat transfer coefficients in a dimpled channel, a ribbed channel, and a rip-dimple compound channel were measured by the transient liquid crystal technique. The channel aspect ratio, the rib height, the rip pitch, and the rib angle were 4:1, 6 mm, 60 mm and $60^{\circ}$, respectively. The dimple diameter and the center-to-center distance were 6mm and 7.2 mm, respectively, and the Reynolds number range was 30,000-50,000. Results showed that the heat transfer coefficients were increased by the angled rib. For the dimple-rib compound cooling cases, the heat transfer coefficients were further augmented and the thermal performance factor for the case was the highest.

  • Chowdbury.

  • Many golf balls have wrong rotation axis owing to bad production and scratch. A flying golf ball makes sliced or curved motion mainly to owing the wrong rotation axis of golf ball. Dimples of golf ball make a golf ball higher and more straight flying. When we hit a golf ball by driver or iron club, the dimpled ball flies straight and rotates as well. While the ball flying, the rotating axis of the ball convergence. And this makes the ball motion curved. If we hit a golf ball in direction of the rotation axis, the flying ball makes straight motion. In this paper, we develop a control system to detect convergence axis and time of flying golf ball based on vision system. To show validity of the developed system, We experimented several case for dimpled golf balls.

  • Metallic sandwich plates with Inner dimpled shell subjected to 3-point bending have been analyzed and then optimized for minimum weight. Inner dimpled shells can be easily fabricated by press or roll with high quality precision and bonded with same material skin sheets by resistance welding or adhesive bonding process. Optimized shape of inner dimple is a hemispherical shell to minimize weight without failure, including face yielding, face buckling and inner dimple buckling. It is demonstrated that bending stiffness of sandwich plate is 2 or 3 times than solid plates with same strength

  • This study presents a numerical procedure to optimize the shape of a staggered dimpled surface to enhance the turbulent heat transfer in a rectangular channel. A optimization technique based on neural network is used with Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stakes analysis of the fluid flow and heat transfer with Shear Stress Transport turbulence model. The dimple depth-to-dimple print diameter ratio, channel height-to-dimple print diameter ratio, and dimple print diameter-to-pitch ratio are chosen as design variables. The objective function is defined as a linear combination of terms related to heat transfer and friction loss with a weighting factor. Latin Hypercube Sampling is used to determine the training points as a mean of the Design of Experiment. Optimal values of the design variables were obtained in a range of the weighting factor.
