  • The purpose of this study is to present a proposal to build an archive of Gwangju Student Independence activist Jang Jae-seong. The research method used for this purpose was, first, a literature study related to Jang Jae-seong. Second, the current status of records related to Jang Jae-seong, such as the National Archives of Korea and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, was investigated, and the types of records were presented for each collection. Third, an expert interview with Jang Jae-seong's family was conducted. As a result of the study, the Jang Jae-seong archive was designed with documentary and commentary content. In addition, a method of linking with the record-holding institution through mapping by content was suggested. Recorded content are structured so that users can receive detailed information linked to each collection through a search. Also, considering that an archive of Gwangju student independence activists has not been established so far, a plan was prepared and presented to build an archive of people involved in the incident together and provide data.

  • This study aims to establish the definition of "event archive," which collects and manages records that focus on a specific event, in order to present a new perspective onto the collection and management of private records. As such, this study defines "event archive" and then identifies its characteristics by comparing it with community archives and locality archives. An event archive consists of person, spatiality, and temporality. As it puts an emphasis on temporality in particular, this study suggests a spiral model, which grafts person and spatiality onto a time axis. Moreover, this study suggests three considerations for the construction of an event archive. First, it presents different construction methods for different types of event archives depending on the time an event occurred. Second, it suggests records collection and management areas considering the three components of an event archive-person, spatiality, and temporality. Third, it supports a digital archive for an event archive to become an open archive.

  • Biographical information about people is usually collected and provided by a company or an institute which has a specific standard to select people for service. Recently, user oriented contents service like Wikipedia has started biographical information service, Wikipedia Biography Portal, in which users select people and freely describe about them. This study collected 500 biographical data from three categories of Wikipedia biography portal such as criminals, faculty, and directors. The contents of data from each category were analyzed with the word frequency and the divergence indicator to identify the characteristics of each category. As a result, divergency indicator is effective to represent the differential factors of each category. This study provides word clouds of top 100 word with divergence indicator and top 100 common words of three categories with word frequency as a guide for users to write about a person in these categories and for editors to accept and monitor the biography from users.

  • In this paper, we introduced a system that extracts metadata by recognizing characters and objects in media using deep learning technology. In the field of broadcasting, multimedia contents such as video, audio, image, and text have been converted to digital contents for a long time, but the unconverted resources still remain vast. Building media archives requires a lot of manual work, which is time consuming and costly. Therefore, by implementing a deep learning-based metadata generation system, it is possible to save time and cost in constructing media archives. The whole system consists of four elements: training data generation module, object recognition module, character recognition module, and API server. The deep learning network module and the face recognition module are implemented to recognize characters and objects from the media and describe them as metadata. The training data generation module was designed separately to facilitate the construction of data for training neural network, and the functions of face recognition and object recognition were configured as an API server. We trained the two neural-networks using 1500 persons and 80 kinds of object data and confirmed that the accuracy is 98% in the character test data and 42% in the object data.

  • Currently, digital restoration has s long way to go. Character restoration is only used as a one-time event to restore the shape of a specific person, and building restoration is only composed of digital modeling rather than using the restored cultural assets as content. There is a limit to restoring even the story of a building or a person with the current restoration method alone. Therefore, this study analyzed the method and process of digital restoration of a 'historical and cultural space' encompassing spaces, people, and events, focusing on relationships. In order to derive digital restoration methods, the case of 'Latelier', an indoor theme park based on Gogh, was analyzed. According to the study, the relationship of the person important for digital restoration is important. Based on Gogh's relationship, the process was formalized in four stages for digital restoration: the preparation stage, the digital archive stage, the DB advancement stage, and the demonstration stage. The restoration of the story of the character through the relationship can be expected to converge the past and the present as a true historical restoration, and through this, it is expected that the innovative development of digital restoration can be achieved.

  • This study explores the importance of semantic web-based network construction in art data archiving, as well as its meaning and value in the context of arts management along with its potential for future application. The study focuses on oral history obtained from the Arko Arts Archives that contained records of the lives and artistic views of early artists. In this study, the possibility of applying semantic web-based technology to materials concerning culture and the arts was discussed in five aspects based on the results of the case analysis. First, checking the relationship and discovering hidden artists are possible by revealing relationships between characters. Second, understanding and studying society and culture at a given time is possible by interpreting the contextual meaning of information. Third, art exploration can be done broadly and deeply, encompassing various genres from the perspective of the consumer. Fourth, through art construction, history can be reconstructed using a new and rich method. Fifth, expanding the scope beyond the boundaries of art is possible through convergence and collaboration of programs that handle big data. The network data can be used in various methods, such as art history research, art planning, and creation, throughout the art ecosystem. The results of the study suggest that digitizing a large quantity of data concerning culture and the arts is meaningful in arts management as well as identifying and analyzing the relationship network among data clusters using semantic web-based technology.

  • This paper is about the research on ontology design for a digital archive of seonsaengan(先生案) of the Joseon Period. Seonsaengan is the register of staff officials at each government office, along with their personal information and records of their transfer from one office to another, in addition to their DOBs, family clan, etc. A total of 176 types of registers are known to be kept at libraries and museums in the country. This paper intends to engage in the ontology design of 47 cases of such registers preserved at the Jangseogak Archives of the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) with a focus on their content and structure including the names of the relevant government offices and posts assumed by the officials, etc. The work for the ontology design was done with a focus on the officials, the offices they belong to, and records about their transfers kept in the registers. The ontology design categorized relevant resources into classes according to the attributes common to the individuals. Each individual has defined a semantic postposition word that can explicitly express the relationship with other individuals. As for the classes, they were divided into eight categories, i.e. registers, figures, offices, official posts, state examination, records, and concepts. For design of relationships and attributes, terms and phrases such as Dublin Core, Europeana Data Mode, CIDOC-CRM, data model for database of those who passed the exam in the past, which are already designed and used, were referred to. Where terms and phrases designed in existing data models are used, the work used Namespace of the relevant data model. The writer defined the relationships where necessary. The designed ontology shows an exemplary implementation of the Myeongneung seonsaengan(明陵先生案). The work gave consideration to expected effects of information entered when a single registered is expanded to plural registers, along with ways to use it. The ontology design is not one made based on the review of all of the 176 registers. The model needs to be improved each time relevant information is obtained. The aim of such efforts is the systematic arrangement of information contained in the registers. It should be remembered that information arranged in this manner may be rearranged with the aid of databases or archives existing currently or to be built in the future. It is expected that the pieces of information entered through the ontology design will be used as data showing how government offices were operated and what their personnel system was like, along with politics, economy, society, and culture of the Joseon Period, in linkage with databases already established.
