As cable TV networks have a media feature that is a broadband wire network, they can provide not only TV broadcasting services but also communication services. Accordingly, the cable TV network is mentioned as the optimal network for convergence of broadcasting and communication services. Recently, Available frequencies of the cable TV network have become insufficient as enhancement of video quality, increment of VoD service, and growth of high-speed internet service. This paper presents a new implementation method of switched digital video (SDV) technology that is introduced for obtaining additional frequency band. In the SDV system, only TV channels requested from viewer are sent and non-requested channels are dropped. The presented SDV uses a sharing method of TV broadcasting and communication service in a same frequency band. This method shows increase of spectrum efficient from switching of TV service channels without building a complex system.

In this paper, we propose technical and structural solutions for various problems in two-way digital communication services in CATV networks by actual field tests. The two-way digital communication services include VOD, video conferencing, distance learning, interactive game and internet service. We investigate the quality of T -1 level 0.544 Mbps) upstream digital signal while varying the number of subscribers in three different cells in accordance with ITU-T G.821. Based on this investigation, several ways to cope with the problems identified are suggested.

As the subscribers of the digital cable and IPTV broadcasting are increasing, the VOD service has established a solid foothold as a profit model of the broadcasting industries. And what's more, the VOD service is emerging as a key application of the N-screen technologies. In the circumstance, broadcasting companies are trying to provide mobile services to improve the satisfaction of their VOD services usage. The paper introduces a VOD mobile app (of a domestic digital cable broadcasting), which includes the functions of promoting the VOD programs printed on a VOD guide book, directly transmitting the information (e.g., book-marking, remote-control signals) generated by the VOD mobile app to a set-top box, and watching the video contents stored in the mobile device on TV.

가정 내의 많은 정보 및 가전 기기들이 최근 급격히 디지털화가 진행됨에 따라서 가정내의 홈네트워크 구현에 대한 활발한 연구와 관련 업계들의 협력이 진행되고 있다. 디지털 TV를 필두로한 DVD 플레이어, 디지털 VCR,디지털 비디오 캠코더 둥 다양한 디지털 가전 기기들이 속속 선보이며 이들 간의 디지털 정보를 전송할 전송 채널로 IEEE 1394등이 많이 연구되고 있다. 또한 가정까지의 정보 전송을 위한 전화 업계와 케이블 업계의 경쟁이 치열해 지면서 정보를 가정까지 전달하기 위한 ADSL 및 케이블 모뎀등이 곧 보급될 전망이다. 홈네트워크 내의 다양한 기기들을 사용자가 편리하게 제어하기 위한 네트워크 구현을 위하여 HWW, HAVi UPnP, Jini 등 다양한 기법들이 선보이고 있다.

본 논문은 디지털 케이불망에서 초고선명 TV(Ultra High Definition TV) 서비스를 위한 100Mbps급 1024-QAM 전송시스템 개발에 관하여 기술한다. 8K-UHD TV(해상도 7680x4320) 콘텐츠 전송을 위해서는 l개의 프로그램당 약 100-160Mbps의 대용량 데이터 전송률이 확보되어야 하며. 이러한 대용량 데이터 전송을 위해 타매체에 비해 상대적으로 전송채널 환경이 우수한 디지털 케이블망(HFC:Hybrid Fiber and Coaxial)을 이용한 대용량 실감데이터 전송기술에 대한 연구가 주목받고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 UHD 실감콘텐즈 전송을 위하여, OpenCable(J.83 Annex B) 확장형 1024-QAM 송수신기술 및 방송망 채널본딩기법을 적용한 100Mbps급 송수신 기술개발에 대한 내용을 기술한다.

Digital cable TV(DCATV) is totally different with a existing TV which is passive, and can pick the contents anytime we want. It is very popular in many houses and we can see bright future with this. This study will show a standard that is a suitable and convenient VOD menu category for 20's through a various usability test. Moreover it will be provided new menu style and GUI through the preferences. For this, we found expected problems first through the heuristic analysis and did iterative usability test to verify and improve these problems. As a result of that, we improved errors of VOD menu structure and suggested new menu style including metaphor, colour and icon users can recognize easily. That is, VOD categories should be grouped among definite meanings. And we found using convenience is more important than new discovery of method on menu style for experienced users. This study can be not only based data when DCATV menu is renewed but also can be used as a reference data when designing other DCATV menu.

디지털 경제에서는 세계표준을 따르는 것이 선택이 아니라, 필수적인 것이다. 따라서 디지털 방송표준또한 필연적으로 준수되어져야 하는 규격인 것이다. 최근 방송환경이 매체별(지상파, 위성, 케이블)로 디지털방송으로 전환 중이거나 전환을 완료하여 서비스중에있다. 데이터방송 또한 매체별로 실험서비스 혹은 본방송이 진행중이다. 데이터방송은 디지털 방송에 양방향 서비스를 가늠하게 하는 개념으로서 국내의 지상파 데이터방송 표준 규격이 ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee)-DASE (DTV Application Software Environment), 위성의 경우 DVB MHP (Digital Video Broadcasting - Multimedia Home Platform), 케이블은 OpenCable-OCAP(OpenCable Common Application Platform)으로 결정되었다. 이와 같이 국내에서 채택하고있는 데이터방송 규격은 매체별로 서로다른 규격을 따르고있으며 규격 표준화 진행은 완료되었거나 진행중에 있다. 따라서 본 고에서는 지상파, 위성, 케이블 데이터방송 표준동향과 매체별 데이터방송 표준 규격에 대해 살펴보고자 한다.

지금까지의 TV 방송 서비스는 지상파. 위성 또는 케이블 방송국에서 제공되는 방송 프로그램을 단순히 수동적으로 시청하는 형태가 주를 이루었다. 그러나 최근 디지털 기술의 발전으로 이러한 단 방향 TV방송 서비스를 넘어 양방향 TV 방송 서비스를 가능하게 함으로써 정보 공급자와 사용자 간의 수평적 커뮤니케이션이 가능하게 되었다. 또한 다매체 다채널 방송 환경의 도래로 인하여 TV 시청자에게 수많은 방송 프로그램 정보가 제공됨으로써 정보의 과부하로 인하여 방송 프로그램의 수동적 취사선택이 매우 어려운 TV시청 환경으로 바뀌고 있다. 이로 인하여 TV 시청자의 선호도에 기반한 방송 프로그램 시청환경 제공의 필요성이 대두되었으며 이러한 필요성은 TV의 개인화된 맞춤형 방송 서비스의 도래를 예고 하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 사용자의 요구와 선호도에 따라 개인화된 정보를 전자 프로그램 가이드, 퍼스널 캐스팅 또는 검색/필터링 등의 응용에 사용할 수 있도록 하는 MPEG-21의 컨텍스트 디지털 아이템에 대한 연구이다.
