A Study on the application of ergonomic information within the thought of design semantics (디자인 의미론적 사고에서의 인간 공학적 정보 적용에 관한 연구)

  • The work of design needs not only a lot of scientific information, but also a artistic sensitivity. Designers require abundant imagination to translate the information of the design, into the Gestaltung. Particularly, the translation of ergonomic information into the elements and grammar of the Gestaltung needs an interface. In order to consider the theoretical possibility for this, a view of fundamental notions, the function of design semantics and ergonomic problems in the design process were analyzed. The purpose of this study is the exploration and relevance of the theoretical model for human factors and design semantics, to see if they could be harmonized as a system of a new design method.

Mythologies of Design Thinking: Based on Roland Barthes's Mythologies (디자인 씽킹의 신화성 - 롤랑바르트 기호의 신화론을 배경으로)

  • The purpose of this paper is to interpret the discourse on design thinking through the perspective of Roland Barthes' Mythologies. To this end, this paper will explore the mythologization process of design thinking using the methodological framework of Barthes, which structurally interprets the connotations produced using semiosis. Design thinking originally refers to a method which is used in the process of planning ideas about designs in order to create the final products for professional designs. However, design thinking has recently attracted more interest from the public because it has become known as a tool for solving various problems which exist outside of the field of design, such as social issues, management, and marketing strategies. Barthes points out that myths are used as a tool to deliver ideologies. He also emphasizes the importance of 'structural thinking'. It interprets the inherent connotative meanings more than the denotative meanings, which are explicitly shown. One of the most powerful ideologies which our society embraces today is creativity. Design thinking realizes the manifestation of creativity through a schematized process. This can be explained by considering design thinking as an icon that is specifically turned into a figuration to realize its objectness, in which a discourse for solving issues and social codes meet together and form a mythology. The mythologies that Barthes cites in his book refer to mythical values created by the cultural codes which humans have produced in our modern and contemporary age. The symbolic value of design thinking has become more important than the signifier which design thinking itself presents. This means that design thinking has become a sign that has mythical properties. In other words, the ideology of creativity embodied by design thinking has attained a mythological status, as it produces a new cultural code through innovation. The process of interpreting a phenomenon using the perspective of semiotics is an important tool that allows us to examine the concept of an object and its surroundings thoroughly. This paper attempts to expand the external scope of critical analysis about social phenomena by using the signs which continuously reveal themselves in common ideologies, such as design thinking, which has been gaining more popularity recently.

  • The purpose of this study aims at the development of architectural design thinking which has been studied in the Kant's Epistemology to examine the Schema theories. In this point of view, the related theories are reviewed through Expression Form, representation of architectural knowledge and so on. One of these words, the Schema that formed by transcendental an Experience and Memory of transcendental an Experience, not only Play an important Part in the designer's thinking system about a specific problem but also appeared by distinctive features(image) and included by connotation as like a designer's ideology. Speaking briefly, thinking of a designer familiar with us as abstract confusion can be confined such methodological tools as schema, and image, etc., which we can easily understand the relationship among them through mechanism of Kant's [Concept-Schema-Intuition]. Evidences collected from case studies and its application on architectural design yield following results. First, design thinking can be defined as Kant's Epistemology composed of the schema and its extended factors(architectural-schema). Second, design thinking can be revealed different characteristics depending on the degree of the schema and architectural-schema. Lastly, the methodology will be proposed after application of the result to architects' works.

  • The cause of traffic accidents and driver behavior is affected by psychological factors, because the behavior of drivers and pedestrians, and to identify the psychological linkage analysis to explore improvements in service design approaches are becoming increasingly important. Service design is a service-oriented development methodology that make invisible and intangible elements into visible and higher-value. Accordingly, through design thinking to action for development of products and a pleasant road environment were studied for school zone by discovering underlying issues to resolve in terms of service design. First, survey of domestic road psychological and behavioral problems were derived through the analysis of the causes of traffic accidents and researched the concept of school zones by analyzing the ideas. To reduced the width of the lane manipulate the speed of the vehicle and to cross the crosswalk safely. In order to encourage the flow of vehicle traffic, new solutions are proposed by offering robot traffic lights, graphic design of crosswalk, space, and the fence and convergence public design and services.

  • Space design in the 21st century has been developed in connection with media more various than ever. In the age of image represented by popular culture, space design connected with media is based on post-reason thoughts constituting the post-modern society, and reflects polysemously and pluralistically changes in the society through the identification of art with life. The movie, which is an image perceived particularly sensibly and the most impractical simulated image among various illusionary media images composing the contemporary society, is growing rapidly in interrelation with various fields of art based on its peculiar nature, and its influence is getting more extensive. The movie manipulates mass society to create what does not exist and restore lost images into new realities through the reproduction of extremely realistic senses, and uses them in establishing virtual realities and creating illusionary images representing the age of simularc. The illusionary expression of the movie produces new meanings through disintegrating existing meanings and recombining them, and expresses popular culture from a position closest to our everyday life. Such an analytical attitude toward the illusionary movie reflecting our society can be a new approach to space design. The present study attempts to suggest the possibility of applying such an illusionary characteristic of the movie as a methodology of space design by utilizing the characteristic as a conceptual language of space design.

  • This is the deconstruction of functionism and means the complex phenomenon of disharmony such as the reputation of purity, search for history, irony and so on. The perceptional system of post modernist and deconstructionist philosopy, that allow us to have the critical angle of view such as the deconstruction of the existing foundation and the absence of the meaning of the reasoncentered thinking of the west, is shown to be grafted into design, fashion and so forth. These elements are taking root as the style of the end of the 20th century. The deconstructional fashion revolting against the existing regime has been reconstructed and created a innovative aesthetic sense by going so far as to address the way that doffing is formed, the way to handle materials and physiological and psychological elements. The deconstructional fashion depicted on new interpretation of the body proportion with planeness and specificity while ignoring three-dimensionality , structuristic rationality

  • This study is possible because, first, "rammatology" and typography are connected by language. Second, I believe that language in typography should be comprehended in a relationship between peripheral studies such as history, philosophy, literature, and linguistics. Finally, "grammatology" is an excellent subject for experiments which attempt to rehabilitate the right of language, which is dependent on sound within the metaphysical boundary. This study is formed on the idea that the study of typography should be based on language, which is the basic foundation, and that this is possible in investigations related to peripheral studies. The main purpose of typography is an accurate delivery of meaning. However, the dynamics of creative thoughts towards advancement mainly depends on experiment, thus we cannot limit the purpose of typography as a means of communication to exchange meanings. For these reasons, I admit that interest in peripheral studies -which are not yet approached in the study on typography -take precedence.

  • Increased appetite for art and design due to improving the economic standard of living and industrial community recognized the value of art in the profitable aspect currently demands various exhibitions in various environments. These social needs and changes in corporate culture to meet the rapidly expanding opportunities for artistic exhibitions, and this modern exhibition outside of the conventional gallery requires more for designers to work with various exhibition spaces, and the opportunities are increasing further. Various types of exhibition space in the exhibition planning an unspecified environment best suited to each exhibit space has been designed to require. This comprehensive study of an environmental poster exhibition held in the Seoul Institute of the Arts, MA-block lobby during 2009.06.10-06.19 was a part of the international exchange projects between Seoul Institute of the Arts and California State University, Northridge. Planning and designing throughout the exhibition in an unspecified space for exhibition requires more creativity and flexible approaches than in the general exhibition gallery.
