  • The governing equation of the post-buckling of shear-deformable uniform columns under a combined load consisting of a uniformly distributed axial load and a concentrated load at a free end was derived and the post-buckling analysis was investigated by using differential transformation. The loads were obtained for various end-slopes. The results obtained by the present method agree well with published results. In this paper, the differential transformation method was illustrated through its application to the non-linear differential equation of the post-buckling. It is expected that applications of the method to more challenging problems will are expected follow in future to ensue.

  • The practical application of riblet to three dimensional double model, for viscous drag reduction, was studied analytically by intergal solution to three dimensional turbulent boundary layers. The case of a V-groove riblet technique on the shear stress and boundary layer velocities were incooperated in the computation of the flow over a smooth slender ship hull. As the results the possible mechanism of turbulent drag reduction by riblets are then suggested based on detailed studies of near-wall turbulence characteristics. And a turbulent boundary layer calculation scheme based on a momentum integral method was modified for the computer program. An example of the calculation results is presented.

  • This paper describes a reduced finite element formulation for nonlinear transient heat transfer analysis based on Lanczos Algorithm. In the proposed reduced formulation all material nonlinearities of irradiation boundary element are included using the pseudo force method and numerical time integration of the reduced formulation is conducted by Galerkin method. The results of numerical examples demonstrate the applicability and the accuracy of the proposed method for the nonlinear transient heat transfer analysis.

  • This study analyzed third graders' understanding on the part-whole fraction concept in both the continuous and the discrete contexts. A set of problems were developed as an equivalent form to compare and contrast students' understanding of fraction in the two contexts. Unexpectedly, the results of this study showed that students' performance in the continuous contexts was slightly lower than their performance in the discrete contexts. Students tended to use different strategies depending on the contexts and they had difficulties in applying what they knew in the new contexts. On the basis of the detailed analyses about students' difficulties and their sources, this paper provides information on how to construct curricular materials and how to teach the basic concepts related to the part-whole fraction.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze operation sense in detail with regard to division of fraction. For this purpose, two sixth grade students who were good at calculation were clinically interviewed three times. The analysis was focused on (a) how the students would understand the multiple meanings and models of division of fraction, (b) how they would recognize the meaning of algorithm related to division of fraction, and (c) how they would employ the meanings and properties of operation in order to translate them into different modes of representation as well as to develop their own strategies. This paper includes several episodes which reveal students' qualitative difference in terms of various dimensions of operation sense. The need to develop operation sense is suggested specifically for upper grades of elementary school.

  • In determining design runoff for the design of drainage systems, the concept of critical storm duration is applied. However, rainfall distribution is usually determined without well-defined standards. In this paper, through the application of ILLUDAS model to Sanbon basin, which is a small urbanized watershed, effects of various rainfall distributing types upon the determination of critical storm duration are throughly analyzed. As a result, it is revealed that peak discharge rates as well as critical storm duration are greatly influenced by the applied of rainfall distributions such as uniform, triangular, trapezoid, huff, central type using IDF curve. Keywords : critical storm duration, rainfall distribution, urban runoff, design storm, ILLUDAS.

  • Recently, arches are used structurally because of their high in-plane stiffness and strength, which result from their ability to transmit most of the applied loading by axial forces actions, so that the bending actions are reduced. On the other hand, the resistances of arches to (out-of-plane,) flexural-torsional behavior depend on the rigidities EI/sub y/, for lateral bending, GJ for Uniform torsion, and EI/sub w/ for warping torsion which are related to axial stress for flexural-torsional behavior. The resistance of an arch to out-of-plane behavior may be reduced by its in-plane curvature, and so it may require significant lateral bracing. Thus. it is supposed that In-plane preloading which cause an axial stress, have an effect on out-of-plane free vibration behavior of arches. Because axial stresses caused increase or decrease out-of-plane stiffness. But study about this substance is insufficient. In this thesis, We will study an effect of preloading on lateral free vibration of arches, using finite element method based on Kang and Yoo's curved beam theory (about curved beam element have 7 degree of freedom including warping) with FORTRAN programming.

  • The live loads acting on structures are generally computed in terms of equivalent uniformly distributed loads for the simplicity in design process. The loads, therefore, tend to decrease with increasing influence area in both load intensity and variance. Since multi-story column loads result from accumulation of loadings acting on several different floors, its influence area becomes wider and lifetime maximum decreases. In the design codes proposing the design loads for types of structural members (i.e., slabs, beams, columns), not for tile change of influence area, some proper reduction factors are given for columns which support more than one floor. Using the live load models developed for colons supporting single floor, in this study, the probabilistic characteristics of multi-story column loads are analyzed. In addition reduction factors given for multi-story columns in current practice are calibrated.

  • Vibration analysis for some of simple supported antisymmetric composite laminated plate loaded uniform axial-loading and attached mass was carried out. Because it is complicated to analyze this type of plate by theory of antisymmetric laminate possibility for application of theory of special orthotropic laminate was studied, and natural frequency of laminated plate attached mass was calculated. Stiffness $B_{16}$, $B_{26}$, $D_{16}$, $D_{26}$ for this type of antisymmetric laminated plate converge on zero as the number of ply increases and it is possible to use classical theory by reason that considered plate has quasi-homogeneity without relevance to variation of angle. Difference between results by theory of antisymmetric and special orthotropic laminate is 0.36~1.96%, therefore it is convenient to analyze this by use of theory of special orthotropic laminate. When composite laminated plate with attached mass is analyzed range that Was able to neglect self-weight of plate was proposed.
