  • Drone mapping systems can be applied to many fields such as disaster damage investigation, environmental monitoring, and construction process monitoring. To integrate individual sensors attached to a drone, it was essential to undergo complicated procedures including time synchronization. Recently, a variety of composite sensors are released which consist of visual sensors and GPS/INS. Composite sensors integrate multi-sensory data internally, and they provide geotagged image files to users. Therefore, to use composite sensors in drone mapping systems, mapping accuracies from composite sensors should be examined. In this study, we analyzed the mapping accuracies of a composite sensor, focusing on the data acquisition area and pre-calibration effect. In the first experiment, we analyzed how mapping accuracy varies with the number of ground control points. When 2 GCPs were used for mapping, the total RMSE has been reduced by 40 cm from more than 1 m to about 60 cm. In the second experiment, we assessed mapping accuracies based on whether pre-calibration is conducted or not. Using a few ground control points showed the pre-calibration does not affect mapping accuracies. The formation of weak geometry of the image sequences has resulted that pre-calibration can be essential to decrease possible mapping errors. In the absence of ground control points, pre-calibration also can improve mapping errors. Based on this study, we expect future drone mapping systems using composite sensors will contribute to streamlining a survey and calibration process depending on the data acquisition circumstances.

  • In this study, a comparative review was conducted on how to use RGB images to obtain river topographic information, which is one of the most essential data for eco-friendly river management and flood level analysis. In terms of the topographic information of river zone, to obtain the topographic information of flow section is one of the difficult topic, therefore, this study focused on estimating the river topographic information of flow section through RGB images. For this study, the river topography surveying was directly conducted using ADCP and RTK-GPS, and at the same time, and orthomosiac image were created using high-resolution images obtained by drone photography. And then, the existing developed regression equations were applied to the result of channel topography surveying by ADCP and the band values of the RGB images, and the channel bathymetry in the study area was estimated using the regression equation that showed the best predictability. In addition, CCHE2D flow modeling was simulated to perform comparative verification of the topographical informations. The modeling result with the image-based topographical information provided better water depth and current velocity simulation results, when it compared to the directly measured topographical information for which measurement of the sub-section was not performed. It is concluded that river topographic information could be obtained from RGB images, and if additional research was conducted, it could be used as a method of obtaining efficient river topographic information for river management.

  • Drone images with high spatial resolution are emerging as an alternative to previous studies with extraction limits in high density forests. Individual tree in the dense forests were extracted from drone images. To detect the individual tree extracted through the image segmentation process, the image segmentation results were compared between the combination of DSM and all R,G,B band and the combination of DSM and R,G,B band separately. The changes in the tree density of a deciduous forest was experimented by time and image. Especially the image of May when the forests are dense, among the images of March, April, May, the individual tree extraction rate based on the trees surveyed on the site was 50%. The analysis results of the width of crown showed that the RMSE was less than 1.5m, which was the best result. For extraction of the experimental area, the two sizes of medium and small trees were extracted, and the extraction accuracy of the small trees was higher. The forest tree volume and forest biomass could be estimated if the tree height is extracted based on the above data and the DBH(diameter at breast height) is estimated using the relational expression between crown width and DBH.

  • In this study, numerical analysis of debris flow was performed using the SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) technique to analyze the mechanism of debris flow, and the applicability of soil parameters was verified by comparison with previous studies. In addition, after performing aerial photographic survey using a drone, a topographic model was created based on this survey to check the applicability of the site to the valley part of Jagul Mountain basin. And after numerical analysis of debris flow was performed using NFLOW, and the result was compared and analyzed with the existing satellite image based method. As a result of this study, the numerical analysis method using drone image and NFLOW was found to have a higher applicability to predicting the impact of debris flow, because it can reflect the actual topography better than the existing method based on satellite imagery. Therefore, it is considered that this study can be used as basic data to establish the preventive measures for debris flow such as location selection of the eruption control dam.

  • Cities are becoming more complex due to rapid industrialization and population growth in modern times. In particular, urban areas are rapidly changing due to housing site development, reconstruction, and demolition. Thus accurate road information is necessary for various purposes, such as High Definition Map for autonomous car driving. In the case of the Republic of Korea, accurate spatial information can be generated by making a map through the existing map production process. However, targeting a large area is limited due to time and money. Road, one of the map elements, is a hub and essential means of transportation that provides many different resources for human civilization. Therefore, it is essential to update road information accurately and quickly. This study uses Semantic Segmentation algorithms Such as LinkNet, D-LinkNet, and NL-LinkNet to extract roads from drone images and then apply hyperparameter optimization to models with the highest performance. As a result, the LinkNet model using pre-trained ResNet-34 as the encoder achieved 85.125 mIoU. Subsequent studies should focus on comparing the results of this study with those of studies using state-of-the-art object detection algorithms or semi-supervised learning-based Semantic Segmentation techniques. The results of this study can be applied to improve the speed of the existing map update process.

  • Since vegetation provides humans with various ecological spaces and is also very important in terms of water resources and climatic environment, many vegetation monitoring studies using vegetation indexes based on near infrared sensors have been conducted. Therefore, if the near infrared sensor is not provided, the vegetation monitoring study has a practical problem. In this study, to improve this problem, the NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) was used as a reference to evaluate the accuracy of the vegetation index based on the optical sensor. First, the Kappa coefficient was calculated by overlapping the vegetation survey point surveyed in the field with the NDVI. As a result, the vegetation area with a threshold value of 0.6 or higher, which has the highest Kappa coefficient of 0.930, was evaluated based on optical sensor based vegetation index accuracy. It could be selected as standard data. As a result of selecting NDVI as reference data and comparing with vegetation index based on optical sensor, the Kappa coefficients at the threshold values of 0.04, 0.08, and 0.30 or higher were the highest, 0.713, 0.713, and 0.828, respectively. In particular, in the case of the RGBVI (Red Green Red Vegetation Index), the Kappa coefficient was high at 0.828. Therefore, it was found that the vegetation monitoring study using the optical sensor is possible even in environments where the near infrared sensor is not available.

  • Although the number of trees affected by pine wilt disease is decreasing, the affected area is expanding across the country. Recently, with the development of deep learning technology, it is being rapidly applied to the detection study of pine wilt nematodes and dead trees. The purpose of this study is to efficiently acquire deep learning training data and acquire accurate true values to further improve the detection ability of U-Net models through learning. To achieve this purpose, by using a filtering method applying a step-by-step deep learning algorithm the ambiguous analysis basis of the deep learning model is minimized, enabling efficient analysis and judgment. As a result of the analysis the U-Net model using the true values analyzed by period in the detection and performance improvement of dead pine trees of wilt nematode using the U-Net algorithm had a recall rate of -0.5%p than the U-Net model using the previously provided true values, precision was 7.6%p and F-1 score was 4.1%p. In the future, it is judged that there is a possibility to increase the precision of wilt detection by applying various filtering techniques, and it is judged that the drone surveillance method using drone orthographic images and artificial intelligence can be used in the pine wilt nematode disaster prevention project.

  • In order to improve the accuracy of the deep learning object detection technique, the effect of magnification rate conditions and seasonal factors on detection accuracy in aerial photographs and drone images was analyzed through experiments. Among the deep learning object detection techniques, Mask R-CNN, which shows fast learning speed and high accuracy, was used to detect the vehicle to be detected in pixel units. Through Seoul's aerial photo service, learning images were captured at different screen magnifications, and the accuracy was analyzed by learning each. According to the experimental results, the higher the magnification level, the higher the mAP average to 60%, 67%, and 75%. When the magnification rates of train and test data of the data set were alternately arranged, low magnification data was arranged as train data, and high magnification data was arranged as test data, showing a difference of more than 20% compared to the opposite case. And in the case of drone images with a seasonal difference with a time difference of 4 months, the results of learning the image data at the same period showed high accuracy with an average of 93%, confirming that seasonal differences also affect learning.
