Haptic Media Broadcasting (촉각방송)

  • With rapid development in ultra fast communication and digital multimedia, the realistic broadcasting technology, that can stimulate five human senses beyond the conventional audio-visual service is emerging as a new generation broadcasting technology. In this paper, we introduce a haptic broadcasting system and related core system and component techniques by which we can 'touch and feel' objects in an audio-visual scene. The system is composed of haptic media acquisition and creation, contents authoring, in the haptic broadcasting, the haptic media can be 3-D geometry, dynamic properties, haptic surface properties, movement, tactile information to enable active touch and manipulation and passive movement following and tactile effects. In the proposed system, active haptic exploration and manipulation of a 3-D mesh, active haptic exploration of depth video, passive kinesthetic interaction, and passive tactile interaction can be provided as potential haptic interaction scenarios and a home shopping, a movie with tactile effects, and conducting education scenarios are produced to show the feasibility of the proposed system.

  • The early web technology was 2D type and exchange of information was passive generally. AS the time had passed, users wanted to participate in the 3D environment which is similar to real world actively. However VRML which is expected to bring big changes of the web environment has not been expanded owing to various circumstances. At a recent Web 2.0 is the most popular topic in the Internet business. Basic concept of Web 2.0 is implementation of comfortable UI(User Interface) and implementation of more active web than previous web. Concept of RIA(Rich Internet Application) is one of the Web 2.0 important technologies. In this paper, we designed and implemented Web Environmental Sensor Data System which has fantastic UI and various functions by using Flex.

Design Issues in Network Adaptive Delivery and its Networking Support for Continuous Media (연속적인 미디어를 위한 네트워크 적응형 전송 및 네트워킹 지원 설계 이슈들)

  • Delivering rich and continuous media contents robustly over a wide range of network conditions of the wired/wireless Internet is a highly challenging task. To address this challenges, the continuous media applications at the edge of network has become more and more adaptive while the best-effort Internet is slowly progressing towards improved networking services. That is, the role of network adaptive media delivery, which dynamically links the quality demand of application contents to the underlying networking services, has become more crucial. In this paper, we will first review the required network adaptation functionalities seen from the application side: congestion control / rate control, error control, and synchronization / adaptive playout. Then, we start the coverage of networking support issues that helps the realization of network adaptive media streaming - from network support and protocol support toward consolidated support via middleware. Finally, we propose a dynamic network adaptation framework that efficiently leverages its awareness of both media application (including contents) and underlying networking support.

A Study on Determining the Prediction Models for Predicting Stock Price Movement (주가 운동양태 예측을 위한 예측 모델결정에 관한 연구)

  • Predictions on stock prices have been a hot issue in stock market as people get more interested in stock investments. Assuming that the stock price is moving by a trend in a specific pattern, we believe that a model can be derived from past data to describe the change of the price. The best model can help predict the future stock price. In this paper, our model derivation is based on automata over temporal data to which the model is explicable. We use Bayesian Information Criterion(BIC) to determine the best number of states of the model. We confirm the validity of Bayesian Information Criterion and apply it to building models over stock price indices. The model derived for predicting daily stock price are compared with real price. The comparisons show the predictions have been found to be successful over the data sets we chose.

  • Discussions about unfavorable acts of corporations in managing activities include many legal considerations. In general cases, first of all, legality of the given acts should be verified. If they are judged to be illegal in their procedures, whether it is possible to assert nullification for the acts by the corporation law or not should be examined. Next, the claim for damages against the actors should be considered. After that, whether the actors have criminal liability or not should be discussed. In this case, it is difficult and complicated to judge what clauses of the Criminal Code in the substantive law apply to the unfavorable acts. when the director's business judgement in the long run causes the corporation to be unprofitable or suffer damage, the Question of whether criminal punishment can be imposed on the director is a very important one requiring careful consideration.

  • This paper describes the e-learning system for science and engineering mathematics using computer algebra system and Bayesian inference network. The best feature of this system is using one of the most recent mathematical dynamic web content authoring model which is called client independent dynamic web content authoring model and using the Bayesian inference network for diagnosing student's learning. The authoring module using computer algebra system provides teacher-user with easy way to make dynamic mathematical web contents. The diagnosis module using Bayesian inference network helps students know the weaker parts of their learning, in this way our system determines appropriate next learning sequences in order to provide supplementary learning feedback.

  • In this paper, we present the results of implementing an interactive lecturer introduction game that allows new students or freshmen to learn about their lecturer's information using a Digital Game-based Learning (DGBL) methodology. This game provides information such as the lecturer's name, photo, the courses that they teach in the form of a quiz game, with Unity and PHP used as the development environment. Communication between the game, Content Management System (CMS), and the database is by using the REST API, which enables the administrator to manage the content of the game such as score and number of questions for each level, user's password, and performance threshold, as well as the lecturer's information itself. Since the developed interactive game uses an integrated CMS, the content can be updated dynamically according to the situation, therefore, it can be easily applied to other departments, as well as other various educational games.

Intra- and Inter-rater Reliability of BioRescue (BioRescue의 측정자내와 측정자간 신뢰도)

  • BioRescue ($RMIng{\acute{e}}nierie$, Marseille, France) is able to assess dynamic and static balance when a test subject stands or sits over the platform. Although previous studies have examined the reliability of other balance measurement methods, little research has been conducted on the reliability of equipment such as BioRescue. This study examined the intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of BioRescue during balance assessment. Thirty-four healthy adults participated as subjects and two physical therapists participated as examiners to determine intra- and inter-rater reliability. BioRescue was used to conduct measurements during footprint (area and pressure), Romberg, and limit of stability tests. The footprint area and limit of stability tests yielded intra- and inter-rater reliability ICC values above 0.60 in all directions. However, the footprint pressure and Romberg tests yielded values below 0.60 in all directions. BioRescue showed good inter-rater and intra-rater reliability in measurements during footprint area and limit of stability tests. However, because the values of limits of stability show the difference between experienced and unskilled, skill is required for the accuracy of the equipment.

Design of Security Framework for Next Generation IPTV Services (차세대 IPTV 서비스를 위한 보안 프레임워크 설계)

  • With the emergence of increasingly complex networks and diverse user terminals, demand for the next generation IPTV service is rapidly growing. It enables any content to seamlessly be reused on the diverse terminals as well as be broadcasted in real-time through the complex networks. In this paper, a novel security framework is proposed for the real-time and reusable IPTV services. The proposed framework is advantageous over the conventional content protection techniques in easily producing the scalable content with lightweight, perceptual, transcodable, and adjustable security features. It does not only ensure end-to-end security over the entire service range based on a single security mechanism, but also can control a level of security while dynamically transcoding the original content. This approach basically performs selective encryption during and after the compression using scalable video coding. The suitability of the proposed approach is demonstrated through experiments with a practical service scenario. Therefore, it is expected that security technology alone could practically contribute to creating new business opportunities for IPTV services.

Adult Readers' Responses to Picturebooks Portraying Play (놀이를 소재로 한 그림책에 대한 성인 독자의 반응)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore whether reading picturebooks portraying children's play assists adult readers to recall their childhood play memories according to the narrative model of human development. In this study, adult readers recalled their play memories before and after reading a picturebook depicting children's play. Adult readers' responses to the picturebooks were also collected. The types of play from their memories were categorized and the responses were qualitatively analyzed through open coding. The results indicated that first, before reading picturebooks portraying children's play, the type of play that adult readers mostly recalled was games with rules which happened outdoor. Second, after reading a picturebook, adult readers recalled new play memories which contained more detailed elements of narratives. Third, most adult readers responded to picturebooks either emotionally or aesthetically. This study suggests the perspective on picturebooks as a literature and art genre for readers from birth to death. In addition, as an evocative object, a picturebooks could assist adult readers to recall and rediscover their childhood.
