In a high-speed press, numerous moving links are interconnected and each link executes a constrained motion at high speed. As a consequence, high-level dynamic unbalance force and unbalance moment are transmitted to the main frame of the press, which results in unwanted vibration and significantly degrades manufacturing accuracy. Dynamic unbalance force and unbalance moment inevitably transmits high-level vibrational force to the foundation on which the press is installed. Minimizing the vibrational force transmitted to the foundation is critical for the protection of both the operators and the surrounding structures. The whole task should be carried out in two steps. The first step is to reduce dynamic unbalance based upon kinematic and dynamic analyses. The second step is to design and build an optimal vibration isolation system minimizing the vibrational force transmitted to the foundation. Firstly, the dynamic design method is presented to reduce dynamic unbalance force and moment. For this a 3D CAD software was utilized and a computer program was written to compute dynamic unbalance force and moment. Secondly, the design method for vibration isolation system is presented. The method for designing coil springs and viscous dampers are explained in detail.

The spindle with a built-in motor can be used to simplify the structure of machine tool system, while the rotor has unbalance mass inevitably. Therefore, it is important to recognize the effect of unbalance mass. This paper presents analysis of dynamic behavior of a high speed spindle with a built-in motor. The spindle is supported by the angular contact ball bearings and the rotor is fixed at the middle of spindle. The spindle used in CNC automatic lathe has been investigated using combined methodologies of finite elements and transfer matrices. The Houbolt method is used for the integration of the system equations and the dynamic behavior of spindle is obtained considering unbalance mass of rotor. Results show that increasing rotational speed of spindle magnifies the whirl responses of spindle seriously. Also the whirl responses of spindle are affected by the other factors such as unbalance mass and bearing stiffness.

The recording density of HDD is increasing in ratio of 100% each year. Because the increasing of recording density requires the feature of high rotation, fixation and low-noise, fluid hydrodynamic bearing(FDB) has been paid attention to overcome a limitation in ball bearing. Most of researches related to improving performance of FDB have been studied in Japan which has 80% more market share of HDD spindle motor assembly. Main subject of studies are about for the design of the groove shape, manufacturing process of fluid dynamic bearing, performance evaluation and measurement. In HDD, non-repeatable runout(NRRO) is most important parameter which determines the performance of HDD spindle system because NRRO is unpredictable that cannot be compensated in head/slider servo system. In this study, performance evaluation system can measure dynamic behaviors were designed and methodology for calculating imbalance, RRO, and NRRO were proposed.
In mobile ad hoc networks, most of on demand routing protocols such as DSR and AODV do not deal with traffic load during the route discovery procedure. To solve the congestion and achieve load balancing, many protocols have been proposed. However, the existing load balancing schemes has only considered avoiding the congested route in the route discovery procedure or finding an alternative route path during a communication session. To mitigate this problem, we have proposed a new scheme which considers the packet bursting mechanism in congested nodes. The proposed packet bursting scheme, which is originally introduced in IEEE 802.11e QoS specification, is to transmit multiple packets right after channel acquisition. Thus, congested nodes can forward buffered packets promptly and minimize bottleneck situation. Each node begins to transmit packets in normal mode whenever its congested status is dissolved. We also propose two threshold values to define exact overloaded status adaptively; one is interface queue length and the other is buffer occupancy time. Through an experimental simulation study, we have compared and contrasted our protocol with normal on demand routing protocols and showed that the proposed scheme is more efficient and effective especially when network traffic is heavily loaded.
This paper introduces a load-balancing algorithm focusing on distributing web requests evenly into the web cluster servers. The load-balancing algorithms based on conventional periodic load-information update mechanism are not suitable for dynamic page applications, which are common in Cyber Foraging services, due to the problems caused by periodic synchronized load-information updating and the difficulties of work load estimation caused by embedded executing scripts of dynamic pages. Update-on-Finish algorithm solves this problem by using non-periodic load-update mechanism, and the web switch knows the servers' real load information only after their reporting and then distributes new loads according to the new load-information table, however it results in much communication overhead. Our proposed mechanism improve update-on-finish algorithm by using K-Percents-Finish mechanism and thus largely reduce the communication overhead. Furthermore, we consider the different capabilities of servers with a threshold Ti value and propose a load-balancing algorithm for servers with various capabilities. Simulation results show that the proposed K-Percents-Finish Reporting mechanism can at least reduce 50% communication overhead than update-on-finish approach while sustaining better load balancing performance than periodic mechanisms in related work.

This work aims at developing a RTB (Rotor Track and Balance) system to alleviate imbalances originating from various sources encountered during blade manufacturing process and environmental factors. The analytical RTB model is determined based on the linear regression analysis to relate the RTB adjustment parameters and their track and vibration results. The model is validated using the flight test data of a full helicopter. It is demonstrated that the linearized model has been correlated well with the test data. A hybrid optimization problem is formulated to find the best solution of the RTB adjustment parameters using the genetic algorithm combined with the PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm. The optimization results reveal that both track deviations and vibration levels under various flight conditions become decreased within the allowable tolerances.

Recently, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) overlay networks like CAN, Chord, Pastry and Tapestry offer a novel platform for scalable and decentralized distributed applications. These systems provide efficient and fault-tolerant routing, object location, and load balancing within a self-organizing overlay network. Content Delivery Network (CDN) is an intermediate layer of infrastructure that helps to efficiently deliver the multimedia content from content providers to clients. In this paper, We propose a topology-aware P2P overlay network for CDN, Rosary, in which CDN servers perform Intra-Pastry and Inter-Pastry routing based on a two-level structured overlay network. This proposed system extends pastry by adapting itself to CDN environments, where a semi-hashing based scheme for Intra-Pastry routing is introduced, and dynamic landmark technology is used to construct the topology-aware overlay network. Through simulations on NS-2, it is shown that Rosary is scalable, efficient, and flexible.

In this paper, we present a case study for a drug repositioning simulation based on distributed supercomputing technology that requires highly efficient processing of large-scale computations. Drug repositioning is the application of known drugs and compounds to new indications (i.e., new diseases), and this process requires efficient processing of a large number of docking tasks with relatively short per-task execution times. This mechanism shows the main characteristics of a Many-Task Computing (MTC) application, and as a representative case of MTC applications, we have applied a drug repositioning simulation in our HTCaaS system which can leverage distributed supercomputing infrastructure, and show that efficient task dispatching, dynamic resource allocation and load balancing, reliability, and seamless integration of multiple computing resources are crucial to support these challenging scientific applications.

A dynamic adaptive streaming server consumes high processor power because it handles a large amount of transcoding operations at a time. For this purpose, multi-processor architecture is mandatory for which effective transcoding task distribution strategies are essential. In this paper, we present the design and implementation details of the transcoding workload distribution schemes at a 2-tier (frontend node and backend node) transcoding server. For this, we implemented four schemes: 1) allocation of transcoding tasks to appropriate back-end nodes, 2) task scheduling in the back-end node and 3) the communication between front-end and back-end nodes. Experiments were conducted to compare the estimated and the actual power consumption in a real testbed to verify the efficacy of the system. It also proved that the system can reduce the load on each node to optimize the power and time used for transcoding.
