  • Objectives : This study was aimed to clarify the relationship between the dampness-phlegm diagnosis and internal carotid artery stenosis by measuring carotid artery sonography in cerebral infarction patients. Methods : One hundred eighty subjects were recruited from the patients admitted to the Department of Internal Medicine at Kyunghee university oriental medical center from September 2008 to July 2010. We assessed one hundred eighty patients' carotid artery sonography data and diagnosed dampness-phlegm by oriental medical diagnosis. then, analyzed their characteristics, risk factor, lifestyle, metabolic syndrome, body mass index, Waist/Hip ratio(W/H ratio) and dampness-phlegm diagnosis. Results : On the demographic variables of the patients, age, smoking, W/H ratio and dampness-phlegm group were significantly higher in severe internal carotid artery(ICA) stenosis group than in the control group. According to the significant difference in dampness-phlegm group, we analyzed dampness-phlegm related index for pattern identifications by ICA stenosis. As a result, sputum, bowel sound, chest discomfort, slippery pulse were significantly higher in the severe ICA stenosis group than in the control group. In multivariate analysis, dampness-phlegm group showed close relationship with severe ICA stenosis group. Conclusion : According to the analysis, significance between dampness-phlegm diagnosed patients group and severe ICA stenosis were clarified. These results can be utilized in the future as a basis material.

  • SST (Sea Surface. Temperature) fronts which were found in the South-West Sea of Korea and the northern area of the East China Sea were examined in order to clarify their positions, shapes, seasonal changes and the formation mechanism, For this study used SST data rearranged from the SST IR image during 1991 to 1996 and oceanographical data obtained by National Fisheries Research and Development Institute. Temperature front in the Cheju Strait was analyzed by the data obtained from a fisheries guidance ship of Cheju Provincial Government, The coastal frontal zone in the South-West Sea of Korea and the offshore frontal zone in the northern area of the East China Sea can be divided into several types (Type of Winter, Summer, Spring, Autumn and late Autumn), Short term variations of SST fronts have a tendency not to move to any Bleat extent for several days. The location of the frontal zone in the southwestern sea of Cheju Island changes on a much large scale than that of the one in the southern coast of Korea, The frontal Tone, formed every year in the southern sea of Korea approaches closer to the coastal area in winter, and moves closer to the south in spring and autumn. The frontal zone of the southwestern sea of Cheju Island moves in a westerly direction from the east, and reaches its most westerly point in the winter and its most easterly point in the summer related to the seasonal change of the Tsushima Current. Additionally, the frontal zone of the southwestern sea of Korea becomes extremely weak in March, April and November. SST fronts are formed every year around the line connecting Cheju Island to Yeoseo Island or to Chungsan Island in the Cheju Strait. A Ring-shaped tidal mixing front appears along the coastal area of Cheju Island throughout the year except during the months from November to January. Especially, in May and October fronts are formed between the coastal waters of Cheju Island and the Tsushima currents connecting the frontal zone of the coastal region in the southern sea of Korea with that of the southwestern sea of Cheju Island.

  • The vegetation of Maemul, Somaemul and Eoyu islets in Tongyeong-si was investigated from September, 1996 through August, 1997. In order to analyze the vegetation of this islets, synthesis table, actual vegetation map were prepared. The predominant species of the islets was Camellia japonica. and the vegetation in this study area was classfied into 4 communties (included 1 afforestation) and 7 subcommunities 1 . Camellia japonica community 1) Typical subcommunity 2) Machilus thunbergii subcommunity 3) Castanopsis cuspidata var, thunbergii subcommunity 4) Ligustrum obtusifolium subcommunity 5) Carpinus coreana subcommunity 6) Selaginella tamariscina subcommunity 7) Pinus thunbergii subcommunity 2. • The northern boundary of the Tsusgima Current and its fluctuations are divcussed in the Japan Sea in summer. This current was characterized with high slinity, and its path was traced by following the salinity maximum on the basis of oceanographical data collected during the period from 1963 to 1979. The salinity maxima (34.45-34.85 ) of the Tsushima Current in the areas between 29 N in the East China Sea and northern part of the Japan Sea were found at depths between 46m and 135m. The representative thermosteric anomaly corresponding to the salinity maximum eas examined in order to analyze the advection of this currint. In the Tsushima Current region in the Japan Sen, the thermosteric anomaly values in the layer of salinity maximum during the period of 1970 to 1979 was beween 220 cl/t and 260 cl/t. In general, as the current moves northward its salinity decreascs, its thermosteric anomaly decreases and the depth of salinity maximum becomes shallower. The northern boundary of this current, which is indicated by 34.4 isohaline on 240 cl/t isanosteric surface during the study period of ten years, was confined to south of 40 N of the Japan Sea. The 34.4 isohaline edvealed two types of flow; one of them flows northward along the eastern coast of South Korea and then meanders eastward, while the oter flows basically northeastward along the coast of Japan. The meanders of northern boundary of this currint idrntified th isohaline in this word were nearly similar to those studied by others on the bases of isotherm analysis.

  • According to the inference results of formation process of the tectonic lineament, totally four events of subsidence including two events after upheaval of granite body and two events after sedimentation of unconsolidated sedimentary layer formed the macroscopic tensional lineament. The subsidence was occurred by tensional stress oriented ENE-WSW direction and compressional stress oriented NNW-SSE direction. The deeper distribution of tuff and unconsolidated sedimentary layer as much as 70-140m and that of granite as much as 50-500m at Hamdeok and Shinheung than those of the eastern and the western area around Hamdeok and Shinheong is due to the Hamdeok-Pyoseon Graben by three events of differential subsidence from Hamdeok to Pyoseon including Shinheung.

  • This article is to investigate the development of seamanship and the art of ship building, marine environment, Silk Road through the sea, and spice exchange at the trade growth of Song Dynasty. For better understanding marine environments, I exemplified what goes before such essential factors as experience and skills in maritime activities. I also demonstrated that South Song Dynasty's abundant economic strength and foreign opening strategy had been supervised systematically through the trade management organization and noted that the nation's overseas exchange had made great effects on its society. The import of the perfume provided the cause where the western influence occupies the orient in the same time when it is a keychains of the orient and the western interchange. For this reason, perfume, which once contributed 1/20 of the revenue, enlarged its portion to 1/10 of the revenue. This indicates the influence of perfume on the national finance in the Song period.

  • In the study area Uanggunbong-Samgunri area), Precambrian metamorphic complex, (Taebacksan gneiss complex, Hyundong gneiss complex, and Taebacksan schist complex) had undergone three different regional metamorphisms at least before Paleozoic. The Paleozoic sediments in the study area also had undergone three different metamorphisms at least. The first is low pressure type regional metamorphism, the second is low pressure type contact metamorphism due to the intrusion of Chunyang granite, and the last is medium pressure type metamorphism caused by thrust in south of Janggunbong area. The first metamorphism formed the prevailing metamorphic zones in the Paleozoic metasediments and the metamorphic grade of the first regional metamorphism increases from the chloritoid zone, through the staurolite zone, garnet zone, staurolite+biotite zone, and to the andalusite+biotite zone. The second metamorphism affected both Pre-Cambrian and Paleozoic metasediments located close to the Chunyang granite. The effect of the contact metamorphism is restricted to the very narrow zone around the granite. The third metamorphism that produced kyanite, is restricted to the very narrow region near the thrust fault in the south of Janggunbong with an E-W trend.
