  • This paper is to elucidate geographical implications of fieldwork activities of everyday-life space of students of an elementary teachers college. The students depended mainly on questionaries and interview for gathering data during fieldwork. They had difficulty in processing data to visual-spatial representation, i.e. map, tables, and diagrams. But they were favourable for appling their fieldwork experiences to teaching the elementary geography. This is viewed as an unique behavioral orientation or desirable attitudes of students of an elementary teachers college. On the basis of the self-assessment and peer-assessment of fieldwork activities, it could be ascertained that the students came to understand the geographical value and significance of fieldwork activities. The fieldwork activities made them to heighten their interest of everyday-life space, and so to internalize positive their senses of place, to enforce their identities of place. According to the results of this research, we need to develop a systemic contents for fieldwork activities in geography curriculum of elementary teachers colleges.

  • Teams are used often in the workplace and in educational institute. Despite the advantages of students teams, the two most common problems are social loafing and free riding. I suggest that 'You are fired' method can be used successfully in students team project, especially in our cultural mood. The 'You are fired' method is very simple to execute into business classes using team assignments. Students can fire team members who will not do the necessary work or will not attend meetings with a simple two-step processes. To fire a student of the team must send an e-mail listing specific work that he or she is not doing and/ or meetings he or she is not attending. And a copy of the e-mail must be sent to the faculty member. If the free-rider fails to accomplish the required work, then a second e-mail is sent notifying the student that he or she is fired along with a copy to the faculty member. Data from 257 undergraduate students are analyzed for usefulness of 'You are fired' method. Students are highly supportive of all components parts of the 'You are fired' method. They strongly support the effectiveness of this method to prevent free riding on performing team projects.

  • This study intends to design a curation system to support elementary and secondary schools for reusing and sharing instructional materials efficiently. It is proved through interviewing teachers at the chalkface that they utilize instructional materials, and there are some differences between elementary schools and secondary schools about the media for creating the instructional materials, and the purpose of using them. The functional requirements of curation system for reusing and sharing instructional materials are derived from questionnaires. The investigation of the existing curation systems was conducted to identify the strategies for policy, design, standard, and tools for effective operation of the digital curation system. The tasks and the functions of the curation system designed by reflecting the results of this study are as following. The tasks related to individual workspace include 'authentication', 'system configuration', 'registration' of created materials, 'material keeping' for the individual, and 'reusing (editing)'. The tasks related to sharing workspace contain 'receiving' for sharing, 'archiving' for accessing, 'peer evaluation', 'accessing' through the retrieval, and 'bulletin board'.

  • This paper is on the analysis of the present situation in carrying out homework assignments of the students in the college of Science and Technology, Hongik University. Our survey confirmed that the purpose of the assignments was not satisfactorily achieved, because only a few students solve the problems by their own efforts and most of the other students just copied their peers' work. The reason for this problem was analysed based on the result of questionnaire for the professors and students. Possible solutions for the problem is proposed, such as providing sufficient number of teaching assistants and changing instruction strategy, reflecting the significance of homework assignments in the learning process. As one of the probable solutions, a team-based assignment is proposed, and expected and observed positive results were discussed.

  • Purpose: The study aimed to examine doctoral students' degree acquisition paths and postgraduate research achievements and explore whether there are differences in the research achievements of doctoral degree holders in relation to the dissertation format. Methods: This study is a retrospective cohort study of nursing doctoral graduates whose degree conferral dates were between August 2013 and August 2023 that compared two dissertation tracks: traditional and publication. We evaluated the proportion of graduates in each track, publication of their dissertations, time to graduation, and the number of peer-reviewed journal publications after graduation. Results: Of the sample, 160 (87.4%) graduated in the traditional track, with only 56 (35.0%) of them publishing their dissertations after graduation. Excluding dissertations, 114 of the graduates (71.3%) published first-authored articles in the traditional track, while 12 (52.2%) did so in the publication track. The time to graduation was significantly shorter in the traditional track, with an average of 5.47±2.45 years, compared to 6.61±2.57 years in the publication track (z=2.26, p=.023). In the traditional track, 64 of graduates (40.0%) majored in adult health nursing, whereas in the publication track, 8 (34.8%) studied community health nursing. Conclusion: This study emphasizes the significance of the publication track for nursing doctoral dissertations in terms of research dissemination. Despite its numerous advantages, it is not yet the preferred choice for both students and faculty. Maintaining the publication track as an additional graduation option is worthwhile, as it allows students to gain research publishing experience before graduation and to effectively disseminate scientific findings in nursing.

  • This study was intended to examine child abuse experience, response to child abuse, perception of the cause of child abuse, and need for counseling to prevent and eliminate child abuse among 514 day care center teachers across the country. First, 17.9% (92) of the teachers had experience of witnessing child abuse at day care centers. After such witness, the teachers mostly "paid attention to abused children and provided them with warm treatment" when they were abused by other teachers and "took no actions" when they were abused by directors of the day care centers. The biggest reason of not taking any actions was: they "had no authority to intervene in child care of other teachers" in case of child abuse by other teachers and "were afraid of responsibilities or roles that could be placed on them after reporting" in case of child abuse by day care center directors. Second, the biggest reason of child abuse by teachers was job stress followed by excessive work and mental health of teachers. Third, necessary actions when child abuse cases were found and confirmed were suspension of involved teachers and psychological evaluation for involved children and parents. Fourth, 88.9% (457) of the teachers responded that they would use an organization specialized in child abuse if such organization was built and that the organization would help them to decide on whether to report child abuse and prevention of and intervention in child abuse. They also said that such organization should be installed in the Counseling Center in the Comprehensive Child Care Support Center. Fifth, 95.3% (490) of the teachers answered professional counselors specialized in development and counseling of infants and toddlers were needed to address child abuse at day care centers. They demanded that such counselors should be able to administer psychological evaluation for young children and assess child abuse cases. Qualification of the counselors was at least college graduates who majored in psychology and child care, three to five years of experience in the field, and appropriate certificates or licenses. Finally, the teachers said that training and professional counseling about child abuse were required to prevent and eliminate child abuse at day care centers. Implications and follow-up studies were provided and suggested based on these findings.
