Bibliotherapy Programs for Promoting the Mental Health of Adolescents : Focused on the Bibliotherapy Program for Teacher Use (청소년의 정신건강 증진을 위한 독서치료 프로그램 - 교사용 독서치료 프로그램을 중심으로 -)

  • Adolescence is a critical period of mental disorder. A teacher, as a significant other, is an important social supporter for adolescents. The purpose of this study is to develop bibliotherapy programs for teachers as a school-based prevention program which helps improve the mental health of adolescents. Two programs are designed for teachers. One is for a teacher as an ordinary person in his/her daily life and the other is for a teacher as a significant other of adolescents.

Effects on the Bibliotherapy for Depressed and Remark of Dotard Dementias Old Adults (독서치료가 경증 치매노인의 인지도와 우울증에 미치는 효과 - S 독서치료연구회 임상사례를 중심으로 -)

  • This research aimed at the investigation of the effectiveness of bibliotherapy for depressed older adults from 90 to 65 years of age and older. For implementing the research, 12 subjects, aged 65 or over, were recruited from the community on a volunteer basis to participate in a bibliotherapy program. The score of MMSE-K, while there was no statistical significance in the score of SDS. Experiment results were analyzed via t-ananlysis. The analysis of hypothesis was revealed that the Depressed effectiveness of interactive Remark bibliotherapy was superior to that of reading bibliotherapy.

  • This study analyze the process of bibliotherapy, the typical problems of participant, and the trend on books of bibliotherapy, using the theses about clinical bibliotherapy program for Elementary School Students from 2003 to 2010 in Korea. Bibliotherapy has been studied at various academic fields. And the bibliotherapy process for all steps of readiness, comprehension-building, and evaluation is more effective in clinical bibliotherapy. Typical problems and contents of participant deal with a lack of sociality, a lack of self-conception and self-esteem, depression, a feeling of uneasiness, and desultory attitude of learning as the problems of psychosocial risk or mental disorders. And also, bibliotherapist need to develope suitable list of books for the typical problems of participant. The study is to present basic data for clinical bibliotherapist and researcher and to indicate the direction of their study in the future.

Comparative Analysis of Research Trends in Reading Ability-related Fields (독서 능력과 읽기 능력의 연구 동향 비교 분석)

  • This study was conducted to compare and analyze trends in research on reading ability. To do this, collecting articles searched for 'reading ability', a keyword network analysis was performed based on the author's keyword. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the terms were used interchangeably in studies related to reading education at universities. In the study related to reading ability 1, the main research areas are school library, school librarian, information literacy, self-directed learning, and information service. In the study related to reading ability 2, the main research areas are children's early literacy, related reading difficulty and disability. In addition, studies on reading evaluation are being conducted in both areas, but not much activation has been performed. Studies involving adolescents show limited activity in both areas.

Availability of Accessible Large-Print Books for the Readers with Presbyopia in Korea (노안 독자를 위한 큰글자도서 이용가능성 연구)

  • Services for the elderly is a new challenge for the libraries in aging society. This study reviewed the obstacles faced by the old readers and presbyopia, and analyzed the states of the large-print books to understand and estimate the Korean large-print books availability. Based on the bibliographic list of large-print books collected by the National Library of Korea, large-print book stock list of the Kyobo Book Center, large-print book lists supplied to the libraries by the Korean Library Association, and the data of the previous Library Survey for the Disabled, number of titles and volumes, publication year, duplication, and subject field of the large-print books available are analyzed. Based on the results, problems are identified and recommendations for bibliographic control, collection development, reading promotion, and further research area are suggested.

A Qualitative Research on Library Education and Cultural Programs for Students with Physical Disability (지체장애인의 공공도서관 이용 활성화를 위한 교육 및 문화 프로그램에 대한 질적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide practical support methods of the library education and cultural programs for people with physical disabilities through the qualitative investigation. To collect data, focus group and individual interviews were conducted. Fourteen people with physical disabilities and six parents were interviewed. From the qualitative analysis, three themes and thirteen subthemes were emerged: (1) cognition about library, (2) difficulties of using the library, (3) support methods for activating library use. Finally, discussions, implications and future directions of library education and cultural programs for people with physical disabilities were presented based on the results of the study. We expect that this research can serve as a basis for further effort to develop library education and cultural programs suited for the unique needs of people with physical disabilities.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of 'The Reading with Library' program in the national library for Children and Young Adults. For this study, data was collected through surveys with 590 children in 46 institutions that participated in '2009 The Reading with Library'program. The study mainly focused on three factors - Children's Self-Esteem, Sociality, and Reading Ability and Questionnaire surveyed. The study revealed that 42(91.3%) among 46institutions showed improvement in the Children's Self-Esteem, Sociality, and Reading Ability test. As the result, 11 institutions (23.9%) were influenced by the program.

  • The purpose of this paper is that which behavior is affected by the storytelling for the visually impaired children. I had a depth interview with the children and their parents who were Participated in the storytelling class, the storytelling teacher and the librarian. And then the material was analysed by the grounded theory. As a result of this research, storytelling is very helpful for the visually impaired children to improve their interest in reading, learning ability and their sociality.

A Study on the Proper Large Print for the Development of Books for the Elderly (노인용 큰글자도서 개발을 위한 적정문자 연구)

  • To date, large print books have been published in Korea only for partially-sighted persons. However, as a recent explanation in the Reading Culture Promotion Act indicates, people who cannot use reading materials due to old age are now also considered to be reading-handicapped. This study is aimed at investigating the proper characteristics for the improvement of print publication for elderly people using data from a survey of 80 elderly persons. This study identified elderly people's preferences on the major characteristics of large format books such as font style, character size, line width, and page layout, derived from both quantitative and quantitative research methods.
