This study analyzed the effects of comic book reading program on Korean proficiency and acculturation of youth with immigration background, by conducting a six-month reading program with five teenagers with immigration background. Ten comic books were selected from published by School Library Journal, based on the themes - that are related to the lives of youth with immigration background - and interests of participating teens. According to the literacy skills test conducted before and after the reading program, the participating teens' Korean proficiency has generally improved, particularly in the areas of interpretation and vocabulary. In terms of writing, grammatically incorrect sentences, phrases, and expressions have declined. Most participants showed stable adjustment to Korean culture, but one participant who felt still insecure of her ethnic identity deeply empathized with one of the characters of the books, and shared the difficulties of living as an outsider of a society. The participants of this research learned or rediscovered the joy of reading through this comic book reading program; at the end of the program, many of them expanded their interest in reading novels, books without any illustrations.

The purpose of this study is to develop frameworks for evaluating reading programs for children provided by a public library. Logic Model based on outcome evaluations was applied for the framework development. While the logic model is generally composed of six factors, the frameworks developed in this study has four factors including input, activity, output, and outcome. Additionally, this study suggests outcome indicators which were driven from library data. Even though the evaluation frameworks were developed from specific programs operated by a public library, those might be able to be used to evaluate other libraries' programs for children since the target programs are commonly provided by public libraries.

The study aims to explore 'reading promotion projects' led by the Korean Education Office and to ponder meaning of the projects, and then to propose the future directions for the projects. To achieve the purpose, the study selected to analyze a reading promotion project called as "Ulsan Students' Reading Day~" by Ulsan MetropolitanCity Office of Education as a case and sample for the study. The study was designed to use two research methods and phases to explore the project in detail: documentary research and survey method. First, the study collected and analyzed the literatures and contents related to the projects but focused on examining progresses of the project such as situations from the introduction stage to the settlement stage. Second, the study conducted survey to collect data from teachers and students who have experienced the project in elementary, middle and high schools. The detailed contents of questionnaires contain current states of the project in each school, assessment of the project, and requirements for the project. The study found that the project resulted in positive influence to students' reading skills and education. In spite of these positive results, it is necessary to develop altenatives to solve some limts in the current states of the project. Reading promotion projects, in long run, need to have profeissional staffs with responsbility for managing the projects, to improve environments for reading promotion, and to encourage students' voluntary participation to the projects.

'One Book, One City' reading campaign is one of the major reading campaigns, successfully conducted by public libraries in this century. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the significance of 'One Book, One City' reading campaign, as an innovative, continuing, and collective reading campaign by analyzing its growth and diffusion during the past six years. Also, analyzed are the themes. genres, and publication dates of the books and the characteristics of authors selected for 'One Book' in order to understand the cultural, social, and community-wide trend and objectives of 'One Book, One City' reading campaigns. An analysis of lists of 'One Book, One City' Reading Promotions Projects' available from the website of the Library of Congress, the Center for the Books, and bibliographic records of ninety books from LC OPAC, shows the preference for books recently published, significance of biographies and biographical fictions, and focus on the themes which help people better understand a multi-cultural and multi-racial society.

This study analyzed students', parents of student, and school master' survey materials and reading, math, and science knowledge performance based on OECD PISA 2009 Koreana data. Also, school library level variables grasped the impacts of academic achievement. Through this study looked for suggestion to improvement, educational accountability and leverage of school library. The results, first, when they use reading more pleasantly thought, they achieve higher scores in academic performance. Second, when they use more books and reading resources in housekeeping, they achieve higher scores in academic performance. Third, when they were more visits school library for exploit internet, they achieve higher lower scores in academic performance. Fourth, when the member of the staff in the school library are more lack of people, they achieve lower scores in academic performance. Fifth, private education's experience in reading have a negative influence in reading achievement and science achievement. Sixth, school library's visiting and library application study about national language curriculum in the impacts of academic performance would not change statistical evaluation significantly.

Nowadays, reading text from screens is prevailing in everyday life. The advent of mobile information devices such as a cellular phone, PDA, and e-book reader facilitates us to enjoy various text-based contents any time and anywhere. Most studies comparing screen and paper readability show that screens are less readable than paper. Furthermore, the decrease of line length and number of lines that can be displayed on the screen of mobile information devices deteriorate text readability. This study investigated parameters affecting text readability on small screens and designed a new text layout to improve readability. We suggested a diagonally splitted layout of rectangular column, which is supposed to facilitate eye movement to trace text flow with ease. The experiment comparing readability between a traditional rectangular column and a diagonally splitted column was conducted. The result of experiment revealed that there is no significant difference between the two text layouts in terms of subjective satisfaction of reading task and a level of comprehension. However, in the screen size of $4000mm^2\;and\;8000mm^2$, reading speed was increased 18.9% and 34.0% respectively from a traditional rectangular column to a diagonally splitted column. We conducted a consecutive experiment to scrutinize the cause that improved the performance in readability task remarkably. The readability of text in a traditional rectangular column was compared with a left triangular column and a right triangular column in the condition of $4000mm^2/3:1$ ratio screen. The performance measurements revealed that participants read 21.1% and 67.6% faster respectively with the left triangular column and right triangular column than with the rectangular column. In consequence, the improvement of readability in the diagonally splitted column was attributed mainly to the increase of reading speed in the right triangular column. This research verified that the diagonally splitted column improve text readability on a small screen and this result is expected to make a contribution to designing an efficient text layout for mobile information devices

The goal of this study is to propose the contribution strategies of public library as cultural infrastructure to local cultural development in Korea. For this goal, researcher evaluated how public libraries contribute to the local cultural development in terms of interdependence of public library and local culture. Then, the researcher divided into the local culture to knowledge culture, reading culture, learning culture, living culture, and leisure culture, and suggested six contribution strategies(improving core competencies including the collection development and user service, strengthening education and support for digital information literacy, reading promotion and base expansion for everyday life, optimization of lifelong learning & culture program services, increasing openness and friendliness of the facilities and space, expansion of cooperation with relevant agencies) of public library for their development and promotion.

The major educational goal of reading part, which occupies important portion in Korean language in Korean SAT, is to evaluated whether a given text can be fully understood. Therefore given questions in the exam must be able to solely solvable by given text. In this paper we developed a datatset based on Korean SAT's reading part in order to evaluate whether a deep learning language model can classify if the given question is true or false, which is a binary classification task in NLP. In result, by applying language model solely according to the passages in the dataset, we were able to acquire better performance than 59.2% in F1 score for human performance in most of language models, that KoELECTRA scored 62.49% in our experiment. Also we proved that structural limit of language models can be eased by adjusting data preprocess.

One Book One City' project is regarded as one of the most successful reading promotion campaign conducted by public libraries in this age. The purpose of this research is to analyze the present stage of this campaign in Korea, and to suggest the actual plans to make this campaign successful. To look into deep context and process of this campaign in Korea, I did a case study for 'One Book One Busan' project. After analyzing the strength and weakness of the project, I suggested the strategies for the development of 'One Book One City' campaigns in Korea.

지식 정보화 시대의 도래에 따라 독서 교육은 인터넷과 멀티미디어를 활용한 방향으로 나아가고 있으며 그에 대한 연구도 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 웹을 활용한 독서지도 프로그램이 많이 연구되고, 제안되고 있지만 장르 별로 세분화되어 있지 못하다. 동화나 위인전 분야는 웹을 활용한 여러 가지 활동들이 제공되고 있다. 그러나 동시분야는 웹 상에서 감상 활동에 알맞은 활동들이 제시되지 못하고 있고, 동시 감상 학습은 주로 교사와 텍스트 중심으로 이루어져 왔다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 학습자 중심의 수업활동을 통해 학습자 스스로 상상, 연상 등으로 동시를 감상할 수 있도록 웹 기반 동시 감상 지원 시스템을 설계하였다. 첫째, 초등학교 전 학년 동시를 데이터베이스화하였다. 둘째, 동시 감상과 학습활동을 읽기 전과 읽은 후 활동으로 제시하고, 활동이 끝나면 동시 낭독을 녹음할 수 있도록 하였다. 셋째, 읽기 전과 읽은 후 활동 등 동시감상 결과가 수행평가 자료로 활용될 수 있도록 하였다. 넷째, 아동들이 동시 짓기 활동에서 쉽게 시상이 떠오르게 다양한 자료를 제시하였다.
