  • The research started with the idea that the proper supervision of bibliotherapy would improve its therapeutic effect. Revealing therapeutical effect is, to therapists more than just therapy process itself. Bibliotherapists, however not only feel the pressure by the term 'therapy' and have a low conviction over self-activating therapy. Therefore, the therapeutic value of bibliotherapy has not been well approved, and the need for improving the situation has grown among bibliotherapists. The bibliotherapy supervising action research was triggered by such need. This research takes the form of interpretive action research which emphasizes a 'methodical' approach to the research process. The purpose is to observe the problems of supervisees, make each session better, and help both the researcher and participants during the research process.

  • Psychotherapy is an area of psychology that helps/treats people who are experiencing psychological and emotional difficulties by non-medical means. Psychotherapists build up theoretical backgrounds, profiles, and/or techniques to adequately assist clients and participants in the treatment of these disorders. Despite the fact that South Korea has a history of nearly 20 years in the field of bibliotherapy, there has not been a developed or proposed psychotherapy treatment model that suits many objectives and goals utilizing bibliotherapy. In this study, based on the person-centered counseling theory, we intend to develop a model and approach focusing on the clients-participants who are subject to bibliotherapy. This study will be the basis and reference for the development of bibliotherapy model(s) suitable for various psychological objectives and goals in the future as an alternative or in addition to other psychotherapy methods and techniques.

  • T'oegye placed great emphasis on the cultivation of quiet-sitting. His idea of quiet-sitting, like Zhu Xi's, had various therapeutic effects as well. This can be highlighted as a real-life practice and a diverse application of the "abiding by Gyong" that he stressed; it is also associated with the treatment of physical diseases, composure in the mind, the benefits of reading, meditation in solitude, and many other areas. And We can easily infer that T'oegye would have set some premises before referring to Hualin Simbang. First, he would have been wary of quiet-sitting being the goal of cultivation: Too much obsession with and emphasis on Toinsul would actually obstruct the practice of "abiding by Gyong" and mislead one's effort for the "preservation and nourishment of the mind" and "reflection and examination." T'oegye would have probably used the physical and breathing exercises in Hualyin Simbang mainly as a reference to treat his physical illnesses. Also, his Toinsul would have been employed independently and partially as a sort of supplementary practice-without being used in parallel with quiet-sitting as one of the methods to achieve reverent seriousness.

  • This study examined relevant literature to review the concept of low-income class, its criteria and types. Based on the cases surveyed, the service status of public libraries for low-income class in South Korea was determined. Based on the findings of this study, we proposed new library services necessary for low-income class, such as the implementation of relevant programs aimed at resolving the digital information divide of low-income class, the introduction of employment programs for the self-economic-support for low-income class adults, and the introduction of reading and counseling therapy services. In addition, this study proposed five policies for activating library services for the low-income class: (1) To revise the act on library law so as to clarify the concept of low-income class, its criteria and types, (2) to revise the master plan for library development so as to bolster the library services for low-income class, (3) to conduct a national-level survey of the low-income class status and of the library service status, (4) to determine the actual features of the low-income class and their information demands, and (5) to prepare library services tailored to the diverse types of low-income class.
