노계도태의 중요성을 새롭게 인식하자

  • 산란계 경영에 있어서 실제 사업의 처음이 초생추 또는 중추의 입식이라면 노계도태는 그 끝이라고 할 수 있다. 계사를 청소하고 소독을 한 후 입추시기와 품종 등을 신중히 고려해 병아리를 입식하고 각종 백신을 접종하고 세심하게 길러내어 성계로 만들어 놓고 갖은 질병의 지뢰밭을 통과하면서 최대한으로 계란을 낳게 하다보면 어느덧 우리의 알 기계는 노후되어 도태시기를 결정하게 된다. 필자는 지난 15년간 고창양계라는 부화장에 근무하면서 주로 병아리 판매업무에 종사하면서 전국의 사양가분들과 접촉해온 경험이 있는 바, 대부분의 농장주들이 마지막 단계인 이 노계도태를 단순히 병아리를 새로 받기 위해 즉흥적으로 그 시기를 결정하거나, 거꾸로 노계를 도태한 후 서둘러 신규입추를 추진하는 등 실로 비합리적인 경우가 너무 많았음을 기억하면서 이번 기회를 통해 노계도태의 모든 부분을 정리해 보고자 한다.

Studies of the Insecticide Resistance in the Green Peach Aphid, Myzus persicae Sulzer (V). Development of Cypermethrin and Pirimicarb Resistance, and Cross Resistance (복숭아혹진딧물의 살충제 저항성에 관한 연구 (V). Cypermethrin과 Pirimicarb에 의한 저항성 발달과 교류저항성)

  • The green peach aphid(Myzus pericae Sulzer) was selected over 20 generations with cypermethrin and pirmicarb, respectively. The resulting resistant strains were tested to inverting-ate the development of insecticide resistance and cross-resistance to some insecticides in the laboratory. The development of insecticide resistance against green peach aphid at the 20th selected generation was greatly varied with the insecticides: 20.5 fold for cypermethrin and 3.2 fold for pirimicarb compared with the parent strain. The cypermethrin selected strain exhibited cross resistance to acephate and pirimicarb, and pirimicarb selected strain to acephate and cypermethrin, respectively. Demeton-S-methyl, however, has not been shown cross-resistance by the selected strains.

Development of Acaricide Resistance and Cross-Resistance in Tetranychus urticae(Acarina: Tetranychidae) (점박이응애의 설비제정항성 발달과 교차저항성에 관한 연구)

  • These studies were conducted to investigate development of chemical resistance in two-spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae Koch) trough single selection for a given period of time with five acaricides including carbophenothion and ethion of organo-phosphate compound, dicofol of organo-chlorine compound, cyhexatin of organo-tin compound, biphenthrin of synthetic pyrethroid compound; and to examine cross-resistance among the acaricides to the selected populations. The development of chemical resistance of two-spotted spider mite was greatly varied under single selection of the each five acaricides. The carbophenothion- and the ethion-populations at the 22nd and the 24th selected generations showed 156- and 64.1-fold resistant levels, respectively, as compared with the susceptible population. However, the dicofol population at the 28th selected generation exhibited 39.7-fold resistant level, and the biphenthrin population at the 24th selected generation revealed 25.2-fold resistant level, while the cyhexatin population at the 20th selected generation showed 13-fold resistant level. The carbophenothion-selected population showed high cross-resistance to ethion, and low cross-resistance to dicofol and biphenthrin. The ethion-selected population revealed also high cross-resistance to carbophenothion. The dicofol-or the biphenthrin-selected populations, however, exhibited moderate cross-resistance to carbophenothion and ethion. Meantime, the cyhexatin-selected population showed high cross-resistance to ethion and carbophenothion.

  • These studles were conducted to investigate the development of chem~cal resistance and cross.resista. nce m dlarnondback moth (Piuteiia xylostella L). The resistance development of diamondback moth greatly vaned under single selection of five insectlades. The tnflumuron and lambda cyhalothnn strains at 8th selected generation showed 374- and 29.l.fold resistant levels. respectively, as compared with the susceptible strain. However, the Baciilus thuringiensis-seleded at 8th selected generatLon exhibited 240-fold resistant level. and the prothiophos-selected at 8th generation revealed 14.3-fold resistant !eve1 while the cartap hydrochloride-selected at 8th generailon showed 9.1-fold resistant level Prothiophos- selected strain showed low cross-resistance level to cartap hydrochloride, while this strain exhibited no cross-resistance of 1.3 to 2.8-fold to other msectlcides. Cartap hydrochlonde- seleded strain showed 19.9-fold. a high cross-resistance to lambda cyhalothrin, but this strain showed 2.2-34 fold, no cross resistance to other insecticide. Lambda cyhalothnn-selected strain exhibited cross-resistance to cartap hydrochlolide and prothiophas. Triflumuron-seleded strain showed 1.3-4.9 fold. no cross-resistance to other ~nsectic~dTe he B. ihuring~ensis-selededs train showed no cross-resistance to other insecticides.

Development of Fenvalerate Resistance in the Diamondback Moth, Plutella xylostela Linne (Lepidoptera : Yponomeutidae) and its Cross Resistance (배추좀나방의 Fenvalerate에 대한 저항성 발달과 교차저항성)

  • The diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella L.) was selected over 24 generations with fenvalerate. The resulting resistant strain was tested to study development of insecticide resistance and cross resistance to some insecticides in the laboratory. Insecticide resistance of diamondback moth at the 24th generation devleoped 66.2 fold compared to the parent strain for fenvalerate. The fenvalerate selected strain exhibited 145 fold, a high level of cross resistance to deltamethrin, and also showed 17.4-45.0 fold cross resistance to alphamethrin, cypermethrin, fenvalerate, permethrin, and tetramethrin in the pyrethroid insecticides. The fenvalerate selected strain showed 2.5-4.3 fold, low cross resistance to diazinon, dichlorvos, EPN, BPMC, cabaryl, and methomyl. However, it did not show cross resistance to acephate, fenitrothion, phenthoate, and carbofuran.

Effects of Artificial and Natural Selection on Walking Behavior in Drosophila melanogaster (초파리의 보행행동에 관한 인위도태와 자연도태에 의한 유전적 효과)

  • Selections for rapid and slow walking behavior were carried out with the populations, drived from Oregon-R and lethal free strain of Drosophila melanogaster. The behavior was measured by means of connected test-tube apparatus. The populations responded effectively to the artificial selection, and it reached the selection plateau after 7 generations. The realized heritability for the first 10 generations was estimated to be about $9\\sim14%$ for the rapid walking behavior, and those for slow walking behavior was about $11\\sim16%$. The results of hybridization analysis between selected populations at generations 8 and 10 indicated that some polygenes showing a slow walking behavior were partially dominant over polygenes controlled rapid trait. The populations selected for rapid and slow walking behavior were relaxed after 10 generations of selection. The response to natural selection of rapid population was completely returned to their neutral states after only 5 generations. Such phenomena would be explained by the genetic homeostasis resulted from an action of natural selection. However, the slow population did not make any difference from walking scores of their original artificial selection. It seems reasonable to assume that the slow walking behavior was possibly controlled by a major gene.

Changes in the Fitness of Brown Planthopper, Nilapawata lugens Stal (Homoptera: Delphacidae) to Several Resistant Rice Varieties after Multi-generational Selection (누대도태에 의한 벼멸구의 품종적응성의 변화)

  • This study investigated the changes in the fitness of brown planthopper, NilapaHata lugens, to several rice varieties with different resistance background, after multi-generational selection on a resistant rice variety. A susceptible strain of brown planthopper (Dongjin-5) had been reared on the Chungchungbyeo with Bph1 resistance gene for three generations (Chungchung-G3) and six generations (Chungchung-G6), then the fitness change was evaluated by measuring their longevity, fecundity, preferences, and survivorships on the varieties with various background of resistance. After being selected three to six generations on Chungchungbyeo, feeding preference, adult longevity, and fecundity increased, where as nymphal period reduced when they were reared on various varieties with Bph1 gene. The egg Periods were not much different among the varieties fed on, except for the Chungchung-G6 on the rice varieties of Milyang63 (bph2 gene) and Gayabyeo (Bph1+bph2 gene). These results suggest that the susecptible Donajin-5 (Biotype-1) can be easily converted to a resistant biotype-2 capable of overcoming the resistant varieties with Bph 1 gene.

Toxicological Test Methods and AChE Inhibition of Organophosphorus Acaricides of Twospotted Spider Mite, Tetranychus urticae (점박이응애의 독성 시험방법과 유기인계 살비제 AChE 활성저해에 관한 연구)

  • These studies were carried out to compare toxicological test methods of two spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch,; and to investigate relationship between in vivo resistant level of highly acaricide-selected population, and in vitro insensitivity of the AChE in the same population to carbophenothion and ethion. The slide dip method (CV = 8.7%) was of more accuracy and suitability than that of the leaf dip method(CV=12.2%) and leaf disc method (CV= 13.6 %) in determination of the resistant levels of twospotted spider mite to acaricides. The slide dip method also had the advantages of simple treatment with different populations on a slide at the same time, standardization of post-treatement conditions and living plants exclud¬ed from the test. Even though the topical application method(CV =8.1 %) showed high accuracy, it had the demerits of the much time consuming, need of expensive equipment and difficulty of test manipulation. For a limited time, the 22nd successive carbophenothion-selected population of two-spotted spider mite showed 156- and 128-fold resistant levels to carbophenothion and ethion(both alPs), respectively. However, the 24th successive ethion-selected population revealed 64.1- and 65-fold resistant levels to ethion and carbophenothion, respectively. In the inhibition of AChE activity, the carbophenothion-selected population showed 3.3- and 2.7-fold insensitivity in AChE activity to carbophenothion and ethion, respectively. Likewise, the ethion -selected population exhibited 3- and 2.6-fold insensitivity in AChE activity to carbophenothion and ethion, respectively, as compared with that of susceptible population. As a result, a good relation was recognized between in vivo resistance to organophosphorous acaricides and in vitro insensitivity of the AChE to corresponding inhibitors.

  • Population of the green peach aphid, Myzus persicae(Sulz.), were successively selected(up to 20th generation) in the laboratory by the insecticide oxydemeton-methyl (Metasystox-R 25Ec) and the resistance was linearly increased with the selected generations. The population developed 355.5-to 359.9-fold resistance to oxydemeton-methyl at 20th generation-selection. The population showed cross resistance to the insectides cypermethrin(770.1-to 778.5-fold), acephate(25.6-to 33.2-fold) and pirimicarb(3.4-to 3.6-fold). The different esterase isozymes were detected by the electrophoresis from the selected and non-selected strains and the band of the ${\beta}-2$ from the selected strain showed greater esterase activity than that of the non. selected strain.
