Comparative Analysis of Digital Twin Trends in Urban Area (도시 분야 디지털트윈 동향 비교·분석)

  • This study is to review the concept of digital twin, analyse digital twin cases and suggest implications. The definition of digital twin is somewhat different depending on purposes but the importance of visualization, monitoring, analysis, prediction and optimization characteristics are accepted. In terms of the concept, digital twin cases are reviewed and analyzed. Based on the analysis, implications from a data point of view for the future development of digital twin in South Korea are suggested.

  • There has been a recent surge of interest in the Digital Twin technology. The Digital Twin is technique for optimizing objects by simulating physical phenomena or objects through computer-based simulations. Currently, single Digital Twin is being developed to optimize processes limited to specific fields, but there is a limitation in that the independent Digital Twins cannot analyze the vast and complex processes of the real world. To overcome this, the concept of federated Digital Twin has been introduced. To date, the federated Digital Twin research has primarily focused on how to optimize macroscopic objects such as cities. However, by leveraging the interconnected nature of twins, existing implementations of the single Digital Twins can be modularized. In this study, we define the concepts and interrelationships of the single Digital Twin and the federated Digital Twin from a functional perspective related to process optimization and design a modularization technique for the single Digital Twin using the federated Digital Twin. Furthermore, this study aims to discuss the proposed methodology's efficacy by designing a model applying modularization to a real-world fabric manufacturing case.

  • As part of the digital era, a digital twin that simulates the weak part of a product by performing a stress test that reduces the lifespan of some expensive equipment that cannot be done in reality by accurately moving the real world to virtual reality is being actively used in the manufacturing industry. Due to the development of IoT, the digital twin, which accurately collects data collected from the real world and makes it the same in the virtual space, is mutually beneficial through accurate prediction of urban life problems such as traffic, disaster, housing, quarantine, energy, environment, and aging. Based on its action, it is positioned as a necessary tool for smart city construction. Although digital twin is widely applied to the manufacturing field, this study proposes a smart city model suitable for the 4th industrial revolution era by using it to smart cities and increasing citizens' safety, welfare, and convenience through the proposed model. In addition, when a digital twin is applied to a smart city, it is expected that more accurate prediction and analysis will be possible by real-time synchronization between the real and virtual by maintaining realism and immediacy through real-time interaction.

  • 본질적으로 복잡하고 다양한 특성을 가지는 우리나라(도시, 농어촌, 도서산간, 섬 등)의 물 공급 시스템은 생활수준의 향상, 기후변화 및 가뭄위기, 소비환경 중심의 요구와 한정된 수자원을 잘 활용하기 위한 운영 및 관리가 매우 복잡하다. 이로 인한 수자원 고갈과 가뭄위기 등에 관련한 대책 및 방안으로 대체수자원인 지하수 활용방안들이 제시되고 있다. 따라서, 물 관리 시스템과 관련한 디지털 기술은 오늘날 플랫폼과 디지털 트윈의 도입을 통해 네트워크와 가상현실 세계의 연결이 통합되어진 4차 산업혁명 사업이 현실화되고 있다. 물 관리 시스템에 사용된 새로운 디지털 기술 "BDA(Big Data Analytics), CPS(Cyber Physical System), IoT(Internet of Things), CC(Cloud Computing), AI(Artificial Intelligence)" 등의 성장이 증가함에 따라 가뭄대응 위기와 도시 지하수 물 순환 시스템 운영이 증가하는 소비자 중심의 수요를 충족시키기 위해서는 지속가능한 지하수 공급을 효과적으로 관리되어야 한다. 4차 산업혁명과 관련한 기술성장이 증가함으로 인한 물 부문은 시스템의 지속가능성을 향상시키기 위해 전체 디지털화 단계로 이동하고 있다. 이러한 디지털 전환의 핵심은 데이터에 관한 것이며, 이를 활용하여 가치 창출을 위해서 "Digital Groundwater Technology/Twin(DGT)"를 극대화하는 방식으로 제고해야 한다. 현재 당면하고 있는 기후위기에 따른 가뭄, 홍수, 녹조, 탁수, 대체수자원 등의 수자원 재해에 대한 다양한 대응 방안과 수자원 확보 기술이 논의되고 있다. 이에 따른 "물 순환 시스템"의 이해와 함께 문제해결 방안도출을 위하여 이번 "기획 세션"에서는 지하수 수량 및 수질, 정수, 모니터링, 모델링, 운영/관리 등의 수자원 데이터의 플랫폼 동시성 구축으로부터 역동적인 "DGT"을 통한 디지털 트윈화하여, 지표수-토양-지하수 분야의 특화된 연직 프로파일링 관측기술을 다각도로 모색하고자 한다. "Digital Groundwater(DG)"는 지하수의 물 순환, 수량 및 수질 관리, 지표수-지하수 순환 및 모니터링, 지하수 예측 모델링 통합연계를 위해 지하수 플랫폼 동시성, ChatGPT, CPS 및 DT 등의 복합 디지털화 단계로 나가고 있다. 복잡한 지하환경의 이해와 관리 및 보존을 위한 지하수 네트워크에서 수량과 수질 데이터를 수집하기 위한 스마트 지하수 관측기술 개발은 큰 도전이다. 스마트 지하수 관측기술은 BD분석, AI 및 클라우드 컴퓨팅 등의 디지털 기술에 필요한 획득된 데이터 분석에 사용되는 알고리즘의 복잡성과 데이터 품질에 따라 영향을 미칠 수 있기 때문이다. "DG"는 지하수의 정보화 및 네트워크 운영관리 자동화, 지능화 등을 위한 디지털 도구를 활용함으로써 지표수-토양층-지하수 네트워크 통합관리에 대한 비전을 만들 수 있다. 또한, DGT는 지하수 관측센서의 1차원 데이터 융합을 이용한 지하수 플랫폼 동시성과 디지털 트윈을 연계할 수 있다.

A Preliminary Study on the Development of Data Model for Interoperability of Information in Building Disaster Prevention (건물 방재 분야 정보의 상호운용성을 위한 데이터모델 개발에 관한 기초연구)

  • As the urban scale changes and the construction technology develops, the living space is being expanded in three dimensions. However, despite the development of construction technology represented by the appearance of skyscrapers, damage to high - rise buildings with dense population can be rather high. In order to solve such a situation, digital twin technology that can control and predict the real world in real time can be an alternative, and it is necessary to utilize pre-constructed spatial information actively. Therefore, this study aims to provide a standardized data model for using existing such information as well as various information produced in the future to the building disaster prevention field. To this end, we developed a data model that extends the CityGML standard, a representative city information model, to disaster prevention.

A Study on Feasible 3D Object Model Generation Plan Based on Utilization, Demand, and Generation Cost (입체모형 활용 현황, 수요 및 구축 비용을 고려한 실현 가능한 3차원 입체모형 구축 방안 연구)

  • In response to the recent 4th industrial revolution, the demand for 3D object models in the latest fields of digital twin, autonomous driving, and VR/AR, as well as the existing fields such as city, construction, transportation, and energy has increased significantly. It is expected that the demand for 3D object models with various precision from LOD1 to LOD4 will increase more and more in various industry fields. However, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the local government and the private sector have partially built 3D object models of different precisions for some specific regions because of the huge cost. Therefore, this study proposes a feasible plan that can solve the cost problem in generating 3D object models for the whole territory. For our purpose, we first analyzed usage, demand, generation technology and generation cost for 3D object models. Afterwards, we proposed LOD3 model generation plan for all territory using automatic 3D object model generation technology based on image matching. Additionally, we supplemented the proposed plan by using LOD4 generation plan for landmarks and LOD2 generation plan non-urban area. In the near future, we expect this would be a great help in establishing a feasible and effective 3D object model generation plan for the whole country.

  • The technologies of 3D spatial information, such as Smart City and Digital Twins, are developing rapidly for managing land and solving urban problems scientifically. In this construction of 3D spatial information, an object using aerial photo images is built as a digital DB. Realistically, the task of extracting a texturing image, which is an actual image of the object wall, and attaching an image to the object wall are important. On the other hand, occluded areas occur in the texturing image. In this study, the ResNet algorithm in deep learning technologies was tested to solve these problems. A dataset was constructed, and the street tree was detected using the ResNet algorithm. The ability of the ResNet algorithm to detect the street tree was dependent on the brightness of the image. The ResNet algorithm can detect the street tree in an image with side and inclination angles.

A Study on Metaverse Construction Based on 3D Spatial Information of Convergence Sensors using Unreal Engine 5 (언리얼 엔진 5를 활용한 융복합센서의 3D 공간정보기반 메타버스 구축 연구)

  • Recently, the demand and development for non-face-to-face services are rapidly progressing due to the pandemic caused by the COVID-19, and attention is focused on the metaverse at the center. Entering the era of the 4th industrial revolution, Metaverse, which means a world beyond virtual and reality, combines various sensing technologies and 3D reconstruction technologies to provide various information and services to users easily and quickly. In particular, due to the miniaturization and economic increase of convergence sensors such as unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) capable of high-resolution imaging and high-precision LiDAR(Light Detection and Ranging) sensors, research on digital-Twin is actively underway to create and simulate real-life twins. In addition, Game engines in the field of computer graphics are developing into metaverse engines by expanding strong 3D graphics reconstuction and simulation based on dynamic operations. This study constructed a mirror-world type metaverse that reflects real-world coordinate-based reality using Unreal Engine 5, a recently announced metaverse engine, with accurate 3D spatial information data of convergence sensors based on unmanned aerial system(UAS) and LiDAR. and then, spatial information contents and simulations for users were produced based on various public data to verify the accuracy of reconstruction, and through this, it was possible to confirm the construction of a more realistic and highly utilizable metaverse. In addition, when constructing a metaverse that users can intuitively and easily access through the unreal engine, various contents utilization and effectiveness could be confirmed through coordinate-based 3D spatial information with high reproducibility.

CNN-based Shadow Detection Method using Height map in 3D Virtual City Model (3차원 가상도시 모델에서 높이맵을 이용한 CNN 기반의 그림자 탐지방법)

  • Recently, the use of real-world image data has been increasing to express realistic virtual environments in various application fields such as education, manufacturing, and construction. In particular, with increasing interest in digital twins like smart cities, realistic 3D urban models are being built using real-world images, such as aerial images. However, the captured aerial image includes shadows from the sun, and the 3D city model including the shadows has a problem of distorting and expressing information to the user. Many studies have been conducted to remove the shadow, but it is recognized as a challenging problem that is still difficult to solve. In this paper, we construct a virtual environment dataset including the height map of buildings using 3D spatial information provided by VWorld, and We propose a new shadow detection method using height map and deep learning. According to the experimental results, We can observed that the shadow detection error rate is reduced when using the height map.
