A Study of Blind Spot Analysis for Public Transportation by Level of Service (LOS) in Public Transportation Supply Service (GIS를 이용한 시내버스와 도시철도 공급서비스 수준 측면의 대중교통 사각지대 분석에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the blind spot for public transportation by level of service(LOS) in public transportation supply service. For the purpose, we proposed indices of service coverage area, service frequency and hours of service and analysis method for them. Service coverage area analysis is to decide station location and network design for the maximum beneficiary area. Moreover, we can use the service frequency is for the maximum service frequency decision and hours of service is for the minimum operation hours. The results of this study are applied to the plan of minimum supply service, minimum service frequency and minimum operation hours for city and national public transportation plan.

  • Urban railway started its operation in August 15, 1978 in Korea. Nowadays, it is being operated in Seoul, Busan, Incheon, Deagu, GwangJu, and Daejeon, and it is playing a major role in mass transportation. Urban railways can provide rapid and convenient transportation to citizens in eco-friendly and energy saving way. However, urban railway operating organizations have been in financially difficult conditions due to the enormous debts borrowed for the construction of railways. Urban railway operating organizations are under pressure to improve its difficult financial conditions through the efficient management of the organization. The management and operation efficiency of urban railway organizations have been evaluated since 1993 by Ministry of Public Administration and Safety to make those organizations more competitive, responsible and efficient. However there are some limitations in evaluation since they do not reflect the relative size of organizations, relative newness of facilities, etc so that it's not objective and loses fairness. This study proposes an improved method for the evaluation of safety.

  • Korea Rail Network Authority ordered Urban Transit Magrev System on the alternative tender lines. The project was contained order with GS Construction and Yooshin Corporation as a result of competition as 5 consortium. Urban Transit Magrev System route was constructed in the whole Yeongjong-dong and Yongyu-dong, Jung-gu, Inchen. The main project is via transportation center in Inchen Int'l airport ~ Work complex ~ Water park ~ Yongyu-station and has Total continuation of 6.1kilometers, Station of 6 spot, Car base of a spot, go out line(a single line) of 380meters. Scale of construction is Major of Roadbed, Railroad, Building, Inspection and Repair facilities. The first Urban Transit Magrev System in Korea is a new symbol of Korea and has polished beauty and creative artistry based on functional perfection. It was designed in harmony with Inchen Int'l Airport improving the dignity of SOC design.

  • Recently, An introduction of communication based train control system both into greenfield and brownfield of urban transit network has been actively reviewed. However, since a number of line sections and rolling stock depots tends to be constructed based on track circuit for various reasons, necessity of inter-operation between two distinct train control system (CBTC, ATC) increases. Therefore, we propose a design of on-board signalling device that allows inter-operation of CBTC and ATC lines and a method to secure safe connection between these two lines without derailing point machine.

  • Since Daegu subway arson fire disaster in 2003, there have been several copycat crimes such as at Seoul Metro line number seven and Hongkong Chuiwan line cases. Oil and gas were used for fire propagation in most cases as in Daegu case and such fire could be expanded to a whole subway cabin within several minutes. The fire may eventually cause the whole subway system stop. Fire damage can be minimized when fire occurrence and diffusion are blocked by stages or isolated rapidly. This study suggests an effective early response system that separates passengers from fire and a real-time fire extinguishment program by stages. Based on the subway arson case studies, the early response scenario has been structured by three stages, i.e., confirmation of fire and damage, early fire extinguishment, and information dissemination and passengers evacuation.

  • This paper presents the methods to acquire the Safety Certificate from Independent Safety Assessment based on the IEC standard62279 which is commonly applied to railway system for Automatic Train Control(ATC) system in accordance with Urban Maglev project. This also shows approach methods and relative activities for project life- cycle to accomplish and ensure the system requirements of ATC system, RAMS and S/W quality activities. Furthermore, the key tasks conducted with ISA are noted in detail. These kind of activities for software quality of ATC system to obtain S afety Certificate could be a CASE model to improve the quality of domestic railway system and products, and also contribute to the growth of railway business and toward the achievement of overseas' railway signaling markets.
