Data Science Degree and Curriculum in Korea and its Implications for the Information Field (국내 데이터사이언스 학위 및 교과 운영 현황과 문헌정보학과로의 함의)

  • This study examined data science degree programs and courses offered by universities, and those offered by the Library and Information Science (LIS) degree programs, to understand its implications for the LIS programs in Korea. This research assessed the status of data science degrees from 439 schools using the list released by the Korea Educational Development Institute in 2022. To be specific, this study analyzed universities, colleges, majors, sub-majors, interdisciplinary majors, convergence majors, micro-degrees, nanodegrees, tracks, modules, and industry-university cooperative programs within the data science field. This research examined 1,148 courses offered by data science degree programs and 1,325 courses offered by LIS degree programs. Data science degrees in Korea offer courses such as introductory, technical, practical, applied, and in-depth subjects related to data science. Although the LIS programs in Korea do not always offer data science, the courses included topics such as the introduction to data science, database, data visualization, data curation, metadata, big data, and information technology, when courses were offered. The researchers hope the findings of this study will be useful as a starting point for the development and revisions of LIS curriculum on data science in Korea.

A Study on the Operation Status of Specialized Public Libraries (특화도서관 운영현황에 관한 연구)

  • This study identified the current status and degree of awareness of specialized libraries through a survey of public library employees in relation to specialized library projects supported and promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and local governments and sought policy directions to revitalize specialized libraries in the future. As a result of the analysis, local (region) was the most common specialized topic, but there were many places that selected topics according to the interest of policymakers. In the case of the data, less than 5% of the total books are specialized, and specialized subject-related programs account for more than 20% of the total library programs, providing an average of three to four programs, and operating personnel generally do not deploy dedicated librarians. When specialized topics meet regional characteristics, when there are separate buildings or specialized rooms, there are two to three dedicated librarians, at least 15% of specialized books, and more than five to six programs, the user's awareness and satisfaction were higher. In order to revitalize specialized libraries, it is necessary to secure additional books, organize differentiated programs, arrange exclusive librarians, provide subject-specialized education through the Korea Library Association and regional representative libraries, develop and distribute specialized and target service manuals, and secure a sufficient budget.

A Study on the Improvement of Service Quality for the Elderly in Public Libraries Using Potential Customer Satisfaction Improvement Index (PCSI Index) and Kano Model (Kano 모델과 PCSI Index를 활용한 공공도서관 노인 서비스 품질 개선에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to classify the quality attributes of service quality for the elderly in public libraries, derive satisfaction coefficients and dissatisfaction coefficients, and present the priority improvement of service quality. To this end, a survey was organized with 22 questions from LibQUAL+ for elderly users who use library in uiseong-gun, gyeongsangbuk-do. Quality factors for service were classified into three areas of LibQUAL+ based on the kano model, and the satisfaction index and dissatisfaction index felt by users for each service quality were calculated through timko's customer satisfaction coefficient. Based on this, a Potential Customer Satisfaction Improvement index (PCSI index) was obtained to determine how much user satisfaction can be improved when actual requirements are met. As a result of classification of quality attributes of service quality, it was classified into 9 attractive quality, 7 one-dimensional quality, 1 indifference quality, and 5 must-be quality. In the improvement ranking for service, the first place was 'making electronic resources accessible from my home or office', the second place was 'print and/or electronic journal collections I require for my work' and the third place was 'a library web site enabling me to locate information on my'. It is expected that the study results can be used to present quality factors that should be managed and improved first when providing services for the elderly.

Development of Scaffolding Strategies Model by Information Search Process (ISP) (정보탐색과정(ISP)에 의한 스캐폴딩 전략 모형 개발)

  • This study aims to propose a scaffolding strategy that can be applied to the information search process by using Kuhlthau's ISP model, which presented a design and implementation strategy for the mediation role in the learning process. To this end, the relevant literature was reviewed to categorize scaffolding strategies, and impressions were collected from the students surveys after providing 150 middle school students in the Daejeon area with the project class to which the scaffolding strategy based on the ISP model was applied. The collected data were processed into a form suitable for analysis through data preprocessing for word frequencies to be extracted, and topic analysis was performed using STM (Structural Topic Modeling). First, after determining the optimal number of topics and extracting topics for each stage of the ISP model, the extracted topics were classified into three types: cognitive domain-macro perspective, cognitive domain-micro perspective, and emotional domain perspective. In this process, we focused on cognitive verbs and emotional verbs among words extracted through text mining, and presented a scaffolding strategy model related to each topic by reviewing representative document cases. Based on the results of this study, if an appropriate scaffolding strategy is provided at the ISP model stage, a positive effect on learners' self-directed task solving can be expected.

Study on the Risk Assessment of Collision Accidents Between Island Bridge and Ship Using an Image Processing Method (영상처리기법을 활용한 연도교와 선박간의 충돌사고 위험성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • Tourism projects through islands in the waters of Sinan-gun became active, and as a result, a total of 13 marine bridges connecting islands were completed. However, the marine bridge constructed in the fairway is dangerous for traffic. Particularly, in the case of the marine bridge connecting two islands, the width of the fairway is extremely narrow, therefore the risk is higher. In this study, we evaluated the risk of collision between marine bridge piers and ships using the IALA Waterway Risk Assessment Program (IWRAP), a risk assessment model for port waterways, based on a maritime traffic survey on the coastal bridge in Sinan-gun. The results, indicated that No.1 Sinan bridge had the highest probability of collision and most of the transit ships were coastal passenger ships. In addition, No.1 Sinan bridge was the place where the most collision accidents occurred among the marine bridge piers in the target sea, and the cause this study was analyzed. An analysis of the satellite images of the sea environment of No.1 Sinan bridge using an image processing method, confirmed that obstacles that could not be seen in the chart existed nearby the bridge. As a result, traffic was observed to be concentrated in one direction, unlike two-way traffic, which is a method of inducing traffic of bridges to avoid obstacles. The risk cause analysis method using the image processing technique of this study is expected to be used as a basic research method for analyzing the risk factors of island bridge in the future.

A Study on Usability Evaluation of AR-based Online Archives Exhibition Platform: Focusing on June Democratic Struggle History Exhibition Case (AR기반 온라인 기록전시 플랫폼의 사용성 평가에 관한 연구 - 6월 민주 항쟁 역사 기획전 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • This study shows the process of designing and directly developing an online archives exhibition platform using AR (AR online archives exhibition platform) as a method for effectively providing online archives exhibition. Furthermore, the usability of the platform developed for actual users was evaluated. Related literature analysis was conducted to derive the functional requirements of the online archives exhibition platform to be guaranteed by the archives exhibition platform. Based on the derived functional requirements, six development strategies were established for the development of an AR online archives exhibition platform. The specific development of the platform was carried out using the Unity Engine and was based on the development strategy. After that, using the developed platform, 'June Democratic Struggle History Exhibition' was planned based on the collection of the Busan Democratic Park. Based on this, this study attempted to specifically evaluate the possibility of applying the actual exhibition service of the platform. Based on this, this study specifically evaluated the possibility of applying the actual exhibition service of the platform, and the usability of the AR online archives exhibition platform based on user experience (UX) was evaluated through platform demonstration for 35 actual users. According to the evaluation results, there were requirements for supplementation due to the use of advanced technology, but the main opinion was that it will be very positive at this time when untact services are being activated due to the Corona Pandemic.

A Study on the Strategic and Competitive Analysis of Public Libraries: Focusing on a Case of C Public Library (공공도서관의 전략경쟁분석에 관한 연구 - C도서관의 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • For a public library. which is a regional information service agency. to acquire high competitiveness, preparation for uncertainties of future through understanding its own internal strengths and weaknesses. and external opportunities and threats based on assessments regarding knowledge information environment and characteristics of regional community. current status of the library, etc. Therefore. in this study, through SWOT analysis. one of competitive strategy analysis methods, the status of competitive strategy of C library was analyzed. In order to carry out the study interview and survey were performed with professional librarians, then through final consultations from management consulting experts, a plan to strengthen competitiveness for C library was devised. Conclusions from this study were as below. In order to strengthen competitiveness of C library offering distinguished high quality services through active cooperations with external institutions, efforts to improve library's position and stand following being selected as a library to visit for 2006 World Library and Information Congress, and revitalization of library usage through providing user oriented differentiated services are needed.

Assessment of Design water level variation Due to Climate Change for Port Nam-Hyang, Ulleng-Do (기후변화 시나리오에 따른 울릉도 남양항의 설계수위 변화 평가)

  • 지구 온난화와 함께 발생하는 해수면 상승은 한반도의 해안지역을 비롯하여 울릉도 등 도서지역 전반에 걸쳐 진행 중이다. 또한 해수면의 온도 상승으로 인한 열대저기압의 생성 시 에너지 공급이 증가하며 연안으로 내습하는 파랑 내습 에너지가 커지게 된다. 경상북도 울릉군에 위치한 남양항은 최근 2019년 태풍 다나스 및 2020년 태풍 마이삭 등에 의해 고파랑 혹은 침수 피해가 발생하여 항 내에서는 물양장과 선박이 파괴되고 방파제가 전도되는 등의 피해가 속출하였다. 동해안의 태풍 내습, 지구 온난화와 저기압 발달에 의한 수위 상승 등과 같은 다양한 해양기후를 고려한 연안 구조물의 파랑 영향을 검토하는 것이 중요할 것으로 판단되었다. 기상청 태풍센터에서 제공하는 1979년부터 2020년까지 한반도 해역에 내습한 태풍 중 울릉도에 영향을 미친 태풍은 18개로 울릉도 인근에 영향을 준 내습 태풍을 10년 단위로 분석해 보면, 1980년대 3개, 1990년대 2개, 2000년대 8개, 2010년대 3개, 2020년 2개로 2000년대에 울릉도 영향권에 들어간 태풍이 가장 많았으며, 심해파 추산 기간 이후 2020년 1년 동안 울릉도 인근으로 마이삭, 하이선과 같은 2개의 태풍이 연속적으로 영향을 주었다. 울릉도에 영향을 미친 18개 태풍을 대상으로 일본 기상청(JMA)에서 제공하는 1시간 바람장을 이용하여 파랑 후측 수치 모의를 수행하였으며, 해양수산부와 기상청 관측 부이를 이용하여 파랑에 대한 정확도를 확보하였다. 고파랑 내습 시 연안에 조우하는 수위 조건은 파랑 에너지의 증가를 결정하게 되며, 항만 구조물의 설계에 적용되고 있는 약최고고조위 이상(4대분조의 최대 조위)의 최극조위 조건에서 해안 구조물에 월파 및 침수 피해를 주는 요인으로 작용할 수 있다. 이를 바탕으로 울릉도 남양항에서 폭풍 시 내습한 최극고조위(0.65m)와 IPCC 5차 보고서에 제시한 최악의 시나리오(RCP 8.5) 조건에서 울릉도에서 확인된 0.79 cm 상승고를 반영하여 범람위험평가를 광역에서의 계산 결과를 입력자료로 하여 준 3차원 비 정수압 파랑 변형 수치 모형인 MIKE 3 Wave를 사용하여 실험하였다. 해수면 상승에 의한 수위 상승고는 연안 파랑 증가에 영향을 주었으며 연안 구조물의 침수 피해에 영향을 줄 것으로 판단되었다. 월파 차단, 파랑 차폐의 목적으로 건설되는 구조물의 규모 및 천단고 등을 설정하는데 설계 수위의 선정은 중요하다. 수치 실험 결과를 바탕으로 방파제 및 호안의 범람 위험 평가를 수행하고 구조물 설계 시 이러한 해수면 상승고가 반영된 설계가 중요하다는 것을 위험 평가를 통해 확인할 수 있다.

The Process of Hillslope Denudation and History of Mass-Movement at the Uppermost Stream of Maegokcheon During the Holocene (충남 매곡천 최상류에 있어서 홀로세 구릉사면의 삭박과정과 사면물질이동의 이력)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the history of phenomenon(hereinafter called mass-movement) of movement of inorganic material originated from hillslope by denudation of hillslope surrounding the watershed during Holocen period in the Chaamgol watershed(hereinafter called study watershed) uppermost stream of Maegokcheon Cheonan-si Chungnam. To do this, for the object of allivium distributed in valley bottom of study watershed, facies analysis, radiocarbon dating and grain size analysis were conducted and geomorphological analysis on study watershed conducted together. The result is like the following. It was confirmed that over around 9,100yrBP~to recent due to a few times of mass-movement occurred in time scale of 102~103 years, a large quantity of inorganic material is mixed in organic material layer originated from wetland formed in valley bottom of study watershed or exists between organic material layers. And it was found that in study watershed, mass-movement occurred in instable period of hillslope after the Early Holocen existed at least 8 times (M1 period~M8 period) and wetland environment formed in the stable period of hill slope existed total 4 times (W1 period~W4 period). This analysis result will be used in the future as basic material in research of Holocen climate change of Maegokcheon watershed and in restoration of denudation process of hillslope following this.

Assessing the Climatic Suitability for the Drywood Termite, Cryptotermes domesticus Haviland (Blattodea: Kalotermitidae), in South Korea (마른나무흰개미(가칭)의 국내 기후적합성 평가)

  • A recent discovery of drywood termites (Cryptotermes domesticus) in a residential facility in Seoul has raised significant concern. This exotic insect species, which can damage timber and wooden buildings, necessitates an immediate investigation of potential infestation. In this study, we assessed the climatic suitability for this termite species using a species distribution modeling approach. Global distribution data and bioclimatic variables were compiled from published sources, and predictive models for climatic suitability were developed using four modeling algorithms. An ensemble prediction was made based on the mean occurrence probability derived from the individual models. The final model suggested that this species could potentially establish itself in tropical coastal regions. While the climatic suitability in South Korea was generally found to be low, a careful investigation is still warranted due to the potential risk of colonization and establishment of this species.
