This study is to analyze and suggest the KDC's facet structure. KDC is using the Decimal Classification's facet structure. New suggestions are : Clearly use standard subdivisions and add instruction like 'Add to base number $\~$ notation $\~$ from table $\~$' : auxiliary tables contents are need to revise and expand to make a add table found in schedules and provide numbers to be added to designated schedules numbers are necessary.

This study aims to identify the status of the classification retrieval operation by investigating and analyzing the classification retrieval related to the books in the university libraries. The Investigation concentrated on whether the classification retrieval service is provided, Access Method and classification retrieval level. The data was collected from 97 libraries where URL access was available during the period of survey in 100 libraries selected by the systematic sampling. As a result, while $92.8\%$ of 97 libraries provided the classification retrieval service, $52.2\%$ of it enabled the access to classification retrieval service only by the classification number and $47.8\%$ by classification number and classification directory. Consequently, it was found that the retrieval environment in the libraries where the access was enabled only by classification number should be urgently improved for the activation of classification retrieval.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the problems of classified items by directly applying the domestic literary publications of agriculture field one by one and to present revision scheme having KDC as the subject of the study. In order to do this, I directly applied and analyzed KDC's 4th edition to the 5,400 literatures of agricultural field from the collection list database at the National Library of Korea. Revision scheme of KDC's agricultural field that's been made based on the above revision scheme tried to follow the basic classified systems and items of KDC's 4th edition, if possible, and in terns of necessary items, it includes only addition of cycles and the minimum subdivided extension.

The Korean Library Association has developed the Korean Cataloging Rules, fourth edition(KCR4) in 2003 and the National Library of Korea developed integrated version of KORMARC formats in 2006 on the basis of KCR4. Many educational institutions and libraries are currently cataloging based on KORMARC. Nevertheless, we have encountered many problems on KCR4 and KORMARC formats which needed to be modified. This study is aimed at pointing out the problems of KCR4 in describing 245 field which has a crucial and important role. Therefore, this study proposes the improvement methods of the use of parenthesis and subfield code in 245 field, and presents a description format of volume number, statement of responsibility and joint works including more than four persons.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the problems concerning the arrangement of 390 military science schedules in the sixth edition of KDC and to propose improvements of that problems. In this study, the theoretical knowledge background of military science is examined first. Then, the development of 390 military science schedules from first edition to the sixth edition of KDC were examined. And the expansion aspects and their problems of 390 military science of the sixth edition of KDC were analyzed and suggestions to solve that problems were proposed.

This article tries to analyze some examples applied the analytico-synthetic classification techniques found in the practical life. For this purpose, it selected and investigated the cases of the combination rules of the Hangeul, the number systems of the city buses of Daegu and Seoul Cities, information of the members of the wedding consulting agencies, information from real estate agents and court auction, and postal codes and direct distance dialing(DDD) numbers in Korea. It suggests that applying the analytico-synthetic classification techniques to the systems can improve them especially in the regards of notational systems.

This study is to survey the present book numbers used in Korean libraries. to analyze their problems. and to suggest improvement in the book numbers. As the results of the survey several suggestions are derived as follows. 1. The education to the librarians about the kinds and the application methods of the book numbers used in Korean libraries should be sufficiently offered. 2. The present book numbers used should be expanded in detail for avoiding the duplication of the call numbers. Also when book numbers are assigned. shelf list cards should be examined one by one not to give the same number. If the book numbers are overlapped in the state not to expand further. libraries should establish a detailed expansion rules according to their respective situation and maintain it consistently. However, it is impossible for libraries operating open stack systems to arrange books on the shelves in call number sequence, therefore libraries can solve the problems as they accept duplication cases. 3. Since the object word of main mark IS a heading In main entry, we must apply cataloging rules to it closely. 4. For expanding book numbers widely it is desirable that the subsidiary mark of the book numbers which is the most prevalent in general and will be the most preferable In the future through the survey should be added and be provided. 5. The book numbers used being changed, we are to assign new book number leaving former materials as they are at the point of adopting a new book number. So aged materials are stored in a repository or on a compact shelf in the stack, will be discarded or weeded according to subjects after a certain period of time. 6. With library automation bringing together all the books of an author in a particular subject or in a particular form and avoiding completely duplication in open stack systems are meaningless. Rather than chronological book numbers, distinguishing clearly new materials from aged materials and controlling the stack spaces mechanically and effectively, can be regarded as the most modern and future-oriented of all the book numbers.

Of the collection of public libraries in Korea, the literature collection is the largest, and Korean fictions, about 14% of the entire collection constitute the largest single subject. However, in the Korean Decimal Classification(KDC) Korean fiction is represented in one section, that is, 813 which corresponds to the only one of thousand divisions. More specifically, only two sub-sections, 813.6 and 813.7 are supposed to be assigned to the huge collection of modern Korean fiction, and, in reality, only 813.6 is being used in most libraries. Even with the use of book numbers, such disproportionate allocation of classification numbers would definitely lower the discriminative capacity of call numbers given to each item. It would also bring about difficulties in both shelving, on the libraries' side, and finding items from shelf, on the users' side. This study aims to examine the issues related to classifying Korean fictions in public libraries, including the composition of KDC schedules and the actual practice of classification, and then proposes the measures for improving the classification of Korean fictions.

The purpose of this study is to investigate historical backgrounds, maintenance, revision and application areas of UDC(Universal Decimal Classification) in order to understand current issues of it systematically. Since 1905, n has been extensively developed and is now administered by UDC Consortium(UDCC). UDCC updates MRF(Master Reference File), an electronic form of the UDC schedules, once a year. UDC updates and publishes standard edition extended edition, and abridged edition according to the degrees of notion abridgement, and is available on the web. UDC can be now applicable to collection arrangement, SDI(Selective Dissemination of Information) service, searching subject bibliographies, switching language or subject gateway and metadata on the Internet, and automatic classification.

This study is intended to present methods improving the classification system of KDC architecture engineering fields after comparing and analyzing the academic system of architecture engineering, classification system of KDC, DDC, and LCC, and that of the research field classification system of National Research Foundation of Korea. The results of the analysis have revealed that it is required to improve and correct the KDC 5th edition of architectural engineering including the addition of classification items that reflect the trend of academic development, proper development in the rank classification terms of architectural structure engineering, addition of detailed subjects, selection of proper classification terms, errors of classification symbols and English expression, and omission of correlative indexes in the classification items. This study has proposed improved methods to solve those problems.
