  • This study aims to apply the concept of Internet of things to library and interpret a library as ecological space where human, thing and data are communicating and organically networking through internet. First, we defined various things existing in physical spaces of the real world and internet spaces as elements of Internet of Things. Then we proposed to apply a semantic web platform to integrate different meta-data formats and communication protocols from things. Finally, we provide the model of Internet of Things based on Semantic web to utilize a variety of information from things for library management and user service.

  • For public libraries to deliver appropriate information to various types of users in information society that allows people to access and use a variety of information, it is necessary to provide services applying the universal design principles in terms of universality. The purpose of this study is to develop the evaluation indicators for universality of public library services, which apply universal design principles to evaluate if public libraries provide appropriate services that meet their original purpose. The final 'Evaluation Indicators of Universality of Public Library Services' consist of six evaluation areas and 41 evaluation contents in 10 evaluation items. Each evaluation content is categorized into a relevant factor among five universal design applicable factors (Universality, Convenience, Recognition, Safety and Economic Feasibility) according to its characteristics.

  • This study is to analyze the results of which the Ministry of Culture and Tourism had evaluated the public libraries in 1999. In results, the study finds that the use of "population of legal service area" as a criterion for evaluating public libraries is not quite appropriate. That is, it is found that the use of legal service area by law as a unit of population measurement is not only inconsistent with the current local autonomous administrative structure, but also may distort all evaluation results. Therefore, this study is to criticize several points about using population of legal service area as an evaluation criterion and to suggest the amendment of Library and Reading Promotion Act, which may make the evaluation of public libraries more proper.

  • This study examined the main concepts of SOA and Web Services, and conducted technical analysis of major Web Services protocols such as SOAP, REST, SRW/U, and OAI-PMH that realize SOA, and suggested examples of SOAP and REST based Web Services establishments in foreign and domestic libraries respectively. In addition, it introduced application examples of Library 2.0 using Web 2.0 technology in foreign and domestic libraries and suggested how to apply SOA based Web Services protocol in Library 2.0. Finally, it proposed how to put Library 2.0 into practice applying meta-searching system integrating library OPAC, online bookstores, web portal sites and library union catalogs using REST based Open API.

  • This study explored the concept of context-aware computing and its application to the library and information services. Context-aware computing represents mobile computing techniques which gather, analyze user's contextual information and provide appropriate information services for the specific user. The idea was proposed in the late 90's but it was not widely available to the public because of the technology limitation. Recent technology development made context-aware computing possible to apply to our everyday-life information seeking using smart phone and showed the usefulness of its application. This study introduced the concept of context-aware computing with some examples of it, and finally tried to propose some of its applications to the library and information services.

  • In this study, the author applied the service design methodology to the university library to maximize the service value provided by the university library. To this end, the 'Double Diamond Model', a service design model, was applied to the university library, and service design tools such as Persona, Customer Journey Map, and Touch Points were utilized. To reflect on the service design in the university library, the author first reviewed the literature related to the subject and researched the previous studies. Then, the issue was discovered by questionnaire surveys, interviews with users and librarians, and field investigations. Based on this, Persona and situation scenarios were derived. In addition, after synthesizing Persona's situational behavior and user's emotional change, the study visualized the Customer Journey Map and suggested service improvement plans for 11 items in 3 areas. This study is focused on the process of deriving service improvement plans rather than improving a specific service. The purpose of this study was to improve university library service and to suggest new service plans. The significance of this study is that the practical service improvement plans were applied to the university library.

  • This study is a case study that attempt to quantify the economic efficiency of 'digital library program(DLP) of the National Library of Korea' by means of cost-benifit analysis. Results indicate that the B/C ratio is 1.70 which can be interpreted the economic efficiency of DLP is very high. Of particular significance is the fact that this study empirically proves that the digital library program is economically efficient.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the indicators of user satisfaction for Korean public library evaluation. This is an attempt to overcome the inequality of indicators, which mainly consist of inputs and outputs. User satisfaction indicators are constructed through literature reviews and the prepared indicators are tested through a user survey of public libraries. Notably, the test is focused on the applicability of indicators for public libraries with a variety characteristics such as scale and operation organization. Based on the analysis of the results, this study suggests a total of 10 indicators.
